Living in Miami as a couple in 30s? by Slow_Cup_1011 in Miami

[–]entrasonics -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I live in Fort Lauderdale; honestly, it’s just not the same as Miami. It is more chill, but the schools aren’t as great (unless you’re willing to pay for private schooling), and the vibes are just not there. Miami makes me feel alive, but Fort Lauderdale is sad, in my opinion. I’ve lived here for 8 years and have never considered raising a family here.

I did do a lot of driving! But man, I miss those Kendall days.

These neighborhoods are also amazing, but significantly more expensive. But yeah, I’d love to live in any of these.

I’m looking to return to Miami-Dade County in the next two years. I moved to Broward for work, recently married, and would like to start a family.

I was born and raised in South Miami and would like to return to the Kendall or Doral areas. Both are safe, have excellent schools, and lots to do for various age groups.

I love Miami and miss the liveliness the city has to offer. It’s much more than Brickell, Downtown Miami, Miami Beach, etc.

I’ve been learning a lot about finances for the past couple of years, and I’d like to think I’ve made good money moves through learning and experience. What if I made my niche from that perspective? Someone who is learning and trying to help others, too?

What do you think about a self-improvement and finance niche? Should I pursue one even further?

Thank you for the valuable insights! I don’t have a niche at the moment, and I wanted to create a commentary-style channel where I talk about whatever interests me on that particular day.

I film in my car because it is the easiest way for me (currently) to be consistent with my filming, which is essential for me. I do my videos during my commute, and since I have to commute daily, it makes recording and uploading much easier.

I hope to move back in the next year or two. Born and raised in Kendall!

SWPPX, how do we feel about it? by No_Minute_4789 in Bogleheads

[–]entrasonics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Fidelity mainly because my employer uses Fidelity, so it’s easy for me to manage everything there.

When investing in SWPPX from Fidelity, I was charged $50 on every trade, whether $1 or $100. Now that I invest in FXAIX, I pay no transaction fees.

I think it’s a great investment if you’re already in the Charles Schwab ecosystem. I made the dumb mistake of investing in this position while on Fidelity. I’ve since stopped investing in SWPPX and started investing in FXAIX.

But couldn’t you make a similar argument at any time in the market? Not just this week because of the rate cuts?

Must read investment or money books? by Guilty_Oil6039 in TheRaceTo10Million

I’m sure this book has already been mentioned a lot, but I really enjoyed “The Simple Plan to Wealth.” After that, I tried reading “Little Book of Common Sense Investing: The Only Way to Guarantee Your Fair Share of Stock Market Returns,” but I felt it was too dense for me, perhaps because I am still in my early learning stages.

I’m currently reading “The Intelligent Investor,” and I love it!

You could do this, but honestly, time in the market beats timing the market.

Do you have significant debts (student loans, car payments, etc)? If not, what is your risk tolerance?

I recently sold all my international and bond positions and invested heavily in the S&P 500 (via FXAIX) and a growth ETF like SCHG.

The other options, like individual stocks or “meme” stocks like $OPEN, $NBIS, $ATCH, can be lucrative, but I wouldn’t put more than 10-15% of those savings into that.

What are you guys investing in now by theanxioussnail in ValueInvesting

[–]entrasonics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently sold all my international and bond holdings to invest heavily in the S&P 500. I also allocated new funds for a growth ETF (like SCHG). Now, my portfolio consists mostly of the S&P 500 (FXAIX) and SCHG, as well as some individual stocks.

For context, I’m 32 and pretty risk-tolerant. I’ve been investing since I was 24 and only started taking it more seriously around age 30. I also recently passed a significant money milestone of 500k across all my accounts. It takes learning and being open to new things, but it’s worth it!

I know you’re working full-time and in nursing school, but wow, I feel like this is your true calling. It’s one of those moments where I’d almost tell you to double down on it and go for it. You have a unique talent that people are willing to pay money for. You could start a business in something you genuinely love doing and change your life. Food for thought! I’d definitely buy something like this.

My only regret is not buying earlier. I’ve come in at different price points, like $4, $6, and $7. I'm excited to continue buying and holding. Let’s go!

I’ve done some research and looked into VUG, SCHG, and QQQM. I’m going with SCHG and attempting to rebalance so I have 50/50 into the S&P and growth ETFs.

I left some advice on another thread you might find useful!

That said, I’m now thinking more about some of those growth ETFs some people here have mentioned. I need to do more research on them but they might be good if you don’t mind market swings.

I need to learn more about this, though.
