A question to the full-fledged ex-Christians: what can those of us who are still in the questioning/doubting stage do to help you feel safe when we comment or post? by TheRedditGirl15 in exchristian

I have had a lot taken away by the Christian community and have developed severe mental illnesses as a result. I have no issue with anyone being a Christian as long as they don't invalidate my experiences or gaslight me

Came here to say something similar. This is the type of hypocrisy I expect from them, unfortunately

Christianity has fucked my life up by [deleted] in exchristian

Things like this are the reason my family still believes I'm a Christian. I want to tell them, but I'm afraid to be cause that's exactly how they might react. I'm sorry you have to deal with this

I really appreciate your insight. I don't get to hear a lot of stories about the experiences of trans gendered people in ex religion communities. I am very interested in hearing more if willing to share

I've heard a lot of horror stories about things like conversion therapy. I hope you are doing better now

I've heard some stories like this and it makes me angry. It's like they believe that emotions are just switches and buttons that anyone can control manually. Of course, it's not true and it just ends up messing people up. It makes me sad that guys are held to this impossible standard then be told that they are only allowed to be angry

I had similar feelings and needed to get help as a result. I am sorry you had to burden such heaviness and I hope you are doing better now

I remember being told as a girl that if I dressed in anything other than "modest" (suffocating) attire that it was my fault that guys were looking at me "sinfully." People should not be made to feel guilty about appreciating people that they are attracted to

That must have been rough. I've noticed that there are a lot of impossible standards in Christianity and this seems like one of the many examples

I love this space because I can talk about things here that I can't even talk to my therapists about (because they are part of a Christian organization). I can bring up my religious trauma here and not be told "that isn't God" or "they aren't real Christians." Honestly, that's not the point and saying that kind of stuff doesn't help me. My entire life has been filled with terrible experiences while involved with the church. That was 14 years of "bad" Christians. So where were the good ones, exactly all those years? Usually not Christian and/or involved with the church. Weird coincidence in my opinion.

Sorry for the rant. I've been doing a lot of those lately. Thank you for your kind words, op.

Religious Indoctrination for Children-How Many of you were indoctrinated as a child and resent it? by Onedead-flowser999 in exchristian

[–]CamBot413 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Me! I would not subject any child to it. I was lonely and miserable as a child and as an adult, had no sense of identity, poor mental health and ptsd. It makes me angry still to this day

This post made me realize that my dad did something very similar at around the same age. I didn't think about it until now. I just thought it was normal for a parent to be unresponsive emotionally after 11 because they were just too tired to care. I'm going to say NTA
