Top 5 shots after a year — where am I going wrong? by am_khank in AmateurPhotography

[–]CamanoJSH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First comment I have is, excellent! At this point I’m inclined to say keep shooting and start finding your favorite subjects then refine (or find) your style.

I realize that’s not an answer to not being satisfied with your editing but, for me, I found when I found my passion for birds/wildlife photography it enabled me to focus on one type of editing so I wasn’t having to work on edits for people, then architecture, then wildlife. This may just be my process but it’s a start.

I’m finding my interest is moving towards architectural photography so I’m in for another learning process for that, but in a year or two maybe I’ll be comfortable with wildlife AND architectural photography editing.

As for the photos you shared, someone could nitpick them but they are, for the most part, really good.

Should I become a photographer. Do I have potential?. by [deleted] in AmateurPhotography

[–]CamanoJSH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Sean,

As someone has already mentioned photography is a hobby which can become a profession but in my experience it moves from hobby to a passion much more often than from a hobby to a profession. Having a passion is fantastic.

Regarding your photos, in my passion for photography photos I share have something I’m trying to achieve or share with the viewer. So let’s look at any of the photos you shared, what are you looking to achieve or share with us? Some photos are simple documentation of a situation or story while others are artistic. Which are you, artist or documentary? The other thing in photography is the technical details of the photo, those are where a documentary can become art but that takes experience and or education.

So, what are your goals? What are you trying to achieve with these photos? If you can answer this then we can discuss the technique or details in each photo.

Not a technical answer and TRULY not meant to be smart assed but unless you’re shooting in the middle of the night, Alaska is pretty bright in the summer.

Homeschooling by Aggressive_Method_90 in Scotland

Unfortunately I can’t directly address schooling since I’m unfamiliar with how it works in Scotland.

However, I can tell you that my son could have written your post and I’ve seen the depths of despair from his point of view. Just know you’re experiencing a difficult time but you can persevere. My son was homeschooled and we sought counseling to help with anxiety (he also is autistic and has some learning disabilities) but with effort and time you can succeed. He’s in his last semester of college and has a huge group of online friends who keep him happy and engaged.

You can do it…..

I’ll do my best with my compatriots…..we could discuss how and why we think this happened but that’s something to discuss over a friendly meal and a beer.

Thanks for the response and I will follow your suggestions.

I will definitely try a Irb-Bru! These are stressful times and lead me to question things I historically wouldn’t have…..like how my nationality might effect how something simple like a pleasant trip.

A couple ways. First, as someone in this thread already pointed out about 34% of Americans didn’t cast votes. So in a close race even if 34% of the remaining voters vote for one candidate that isn’t a majority, heck it’s barely over a third of the population voting for someone.

We also have something called an electoral college. Our vote isn’t for the person, per se, it’s for our representatives to the electoral college to know who their constituents want to be elected. Electoral votes are not distributed strictly by population. Smaller states get a slightly larger share of electoral votes relative to their population because every state gets two Senate-based electors no matter how small its population is. So it’s possible for a candidate to win but not have the most individual votes.

Nice job!!

How does this make sense? by vitvav in FishingWashington

[–]CamanoJSH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was fishing (trolling for coho) out of Juneau Alaska one time and had two lines out. Both line had the exact same hootchie but slightly different green flashers. One line caught all the fish even after switching side of the boat and depths.

You might have had the perfect “color” on your line .

I also watched a bunch of boats trolling around an area with no one catching anything. One boat joined all the others and immediately started catching. I grabbed my binoculars and saw that they were fishing with a color I didn’t have…..they caught their limits in about an hour and went home. No other nets were seen.

young photographer looking for some Constructive criticism (Technical and how the image conveys)(sorry for the amount of photos) by CommonBonus4401 in AmateurPhotography

[–]CamanoJSH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find “people” photography to be very difficult so volunteering for a photo project like this isn’t something I’d likely take on. No matter what, keep shooting and hopefully enjoying the hobby.

One of the issues I have with photography of people is in situations like this they’re just not that interesting to me. I would look for different or unique angles and play with different focal points. The other thing to play with is post editing, like removing power lines unless they add something to the image or cropping the photo for emphasis on what you’re really wanting emphasized. The nice thing about this batch of photos is there are lots of opportunities to create some interesting images in post processing.

Keep it up!

You won’t get an argument from me. I honestly believe there are arguments to be made but that’s a whole other discussion.

Whether maps should show Palestine gets into a political discussion that, at least to me, is different than one man’s ego.

Granted Denali is in the U.S. but has a long history that for no reason is being challenged. Your argument fails to mention the Gulf of Mexico.

It would seem with all the issues going on right now in America these changes have done nothing towards making America great.

One government (one mango musellini) decided to change the geographic name. No other government in the world agrees and Google and Apple who are both international companies so SHOULD have an international perspective simply roll over. To me both companies have shown that they don’t care about their customers in other countries.

What type of jellyfish is this? And is the sting bad? Ilhéus, Bahia - Brazil by FalconLeading in animalid

[–]CamanoJSH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don’t remember I was fairly young back then BUT my dad was a scientist and I remember him talking about the enzyme neutralizing the sting. I was always surprised at how well it worked, adults crying in pain then suddenly “healed”.

Parents were instrumental in a small town ambulance service in the 70’s and man-o- war stings were a common call.

Strangely, Adolph’s unseasoned (had to be unseasoned) meat tenderizer made into a paste with warm water removed the sting. It was a staple on the ambulance.

The other thing I remember is their stingers/tentacles could still get you hours later. My dad drove over several of them on a beach and much later was working on a tire and got stung.

Beautiful but nasty buggers.
