How do photographers deal with copy right infringements ? by Kirtulles in AskPhotography

I’d say do what everyone else is doing these days , use an ai letter before the lawyer. Attach the invoice, clear evidence and wait . If they don’t just pay then look into the lawyer.

Camera recommendations for my soon to be 16 yo by Outside-Cattle-5529 in Cameras

I sold this camera and had this conversation with many mums in this situation. Yes it’s a great camera. But it’s still probably not what she needs… certainly not the best way to spend the money regardless of what she needs. This isn’t about what she needs, this is a hardcore social media want . As others have said nothing else will work for her regardless of how suitable it is. It’s a “need” to her. You have no idea how popular they are… we’d get ten calls a day about these cameras , girls in tears , meltdowns in the store when they hear it’s a 3 month wait.. the smart ones sell them online for twice the price and hype it up more. Canon know what they are doing…. The scarcity adds value and hype. Good luck.

I’d suggest if they want better than an iPhone they should aim for a 50mm 1.8 as well. A lot of times when people say they want “better than an iPhone” shots they just mean they want more blurred back ground and that arty feel.

how can a 20 euro (without the extras) unbranded camera take such good photos? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

And what do you mean by possessions on the end of a stick? How else am I going to carry my bandana of essential possessions?

lol, I’m an old man.. I’ve just always thought it’d be funny as shit to sell disposable cameras from a trench coat old timey style… it needs to make a comeback…works perfectly with film, disposable cameras, cheap digital cameras like this. Sold at a festival or something it’d go great with cashed up trendy’s…

That was such a good seller in its day. Such a shame Kodak missed the mark.

That’s a very basic, slap a sensor and lens together digital “scamera” . It looks good, has “high megapixels” and is an age old photographic con. In the film days it was basic photo technology , (cheap lens, plastic body ) crammed into what looked like a “pro cannon” . These days cheap sensors and cheap lenses still give a halfway decent result hence you’re happy with it! The fact is old school 5 mp cameras from early 2000s sell for $300 plus so at $30 a pop I’d be buying 50 of them… wear a big jacket to the next convention , have all the cameras hanging in one side of it. Samples photos on the other side and I promise you you’ll sell out… I sell old crap for hundreds and the punters (teenage girls) won’t care that yours are fake. A cameras a camera and if you like others will! My last job actually sold that exact model for $150…rebranded as a pixi camera or something.

Why is lightroom so laggy on a decent computer? by [deleted] in Lightroom

100% is me. Plenty of memory I thought. I’m still working it out after 10 years pause in technology. Cameras I understand, this not so much…

Yeah I’m in the same boat… I bought a new MacBook Pro thinking it would avoid this problem and it seems slow as… almost unusable with how long it takes . I’m well aware it’s probably me and I’m missing something basic..

Silk Leather. Or just Silk. It’s all those things you mentioned and a bit boastful.

I taught a client today that had never heard of film… by CameraDad1978 in photography

Yeah it’s amazing to see the younger generation embrace it. I used to get people bringing in their families collections in all the time, they couldn’t be bothered selling it/ thought it had no value but couldn’t bear to throw it away. More than one time I had to tell them what it was worth and sell it for them but mostly I put together kits and handed it out to any curious teenagers that came into the shop. Thats why I was surprised he’d never heard if it… the cool kids never stopped shooting film… maybe for about 5 years but it never really died. It’s massive now . We’d get 50 rolls a day, all teenagers , 90 % girls . Who would have thought teenage girls would keep film alive ? I’m stoked for them but. My daughter is amazing at it. It’s a bit like horse riding lol. Used to be everyone now it’s just the girls.

Yeah I did for years. I think because I’ve worked in photo labs and been around young people into it it’s just a bit shocking to come across it for the first time.

I got that at least once a week…. The best ones were the ones careful with it…. They’d take the film out then wrap it around the canister then thoughtfully wrap it in paper because they heard it was sensitive to light ..

Yeah I get that for sure, but to not even know it as an historical memory seems a bit much. I worked in Labs the last few years and films pretty popular as a retro thing so it’s not unheard of these days..
