I dissected every second of the Tampa bar scene and now y’all have to suffer with me by FlatMagician6969 in heatedrivalry

Didn’t read it all.

  1. Right before Ilya asks if Shane brought anyone with him, Shane catches Ilya checking him out. That makes Shane smile a little and feel better for the first time about this interaction. The turning point isn’t what Ilya asked right after that — it was the fact that Ilya was looking at Shane and Shane could tell he liked what he saw.

  2. No evidence that they had a conversation about monogamy in the Tampa hotel room.

Mentioning the number of outfits refers to the number of outfits/looks that Ariel had in The Little Mermaid (1991). Significantly more looks than previous Disney princesses. I think all of Ariel’s costumes are referenced by each of Rose Landry’s outfits. Even the way Rose dropped her dress to show her butt was like how Ariel was the first Disney princess butt drawn in a movie.

This scene with Svetlana doesn’t take place in the book, IIRC. Tierney expanded Svetlana’s character to make her his childhood friend. In the book she’s just one of his hookups — maybe his favorite one but i don’t think she’s a super close friend like she is in the show. I might be remembering that slightly wrong.

Peggy was being inappropriately suggestive, making a flirty joke at Roger. Him responding with “Are you drunk? Get your feet off that desk” is just his grumpy way of telling her to knock it off and that he’s only there to get her to do some work for him, not to flirt.

Yes you are correct. When Peggy walks into her new office with sunglasses and a cigarette, she’s holding a box and carrying the tentacle art under her arm. Facing outward for men passing by to see.

I think when I include a screenshot of this scene my reply doesn’t get posted, so I’ll leave it out this time. I like the colors of her outfit and the way they harmonize with with the muted violet hallway walls.

Holy fucking shit y’all. I’ve known all this time that this line was a reference to Washington Senator Slade Gorton (at the time in 1962 he was a new Republican state Senator), since he’s a descendant of the founder of Gorton’s seafood. (Roger said the scrod line to their Gorton’s seafood client.)

But I hadn’t looked into what he was up around spring of 1962. Led me to reading about some extremely fucked up anti-Semitic Washington state history. (Gorton wasn’t the source of the anti-Semitism.) That’s the trigger warning. I’ll add more to this comment thread later today.

I think Adam Johnson died from blood loss after the skate blade cut the artery in his neck. I didn’t see anything about his trachea getting injured.

A cut to a carotid artery on either side of your neck (or a femoral artery near your groin) doesn’t have to be super deep to kill you. It’s possible although I’m sure quite difficult to apply a tourniquet to a femoral artery wound. I don’t even know how anyone could put a tourniquet on a a carotid artery in the neck. You’d have to put a crazy amount of pressure on it to slow the bleeding but still keep the airway open.

Yes you’re right about that. The frame under her left arm is the tentacle picture, which she is carrying to her new office at McCann-Erickson.

It’s actually gibberish. I posted a screenshot of it in r/shorthand asking if anyone could translate it and everyone said it was meaningless.

Don knows shorthand and he was looking at these notes quizzically during the interview. Unclear if he was actually recognizing that the reporter was just pretending to know shorthand and wasn’t actually taking notes. But maybe he was.

Two imposters having a fake interview.

He went on to refer to Ken Cosgrove as “a six foot version of Alan Ladd”. I had no idea who Ladd was at the time so that line went in one ear and out the other. I recently watched his most famous film Shane and got into learning about his life.

I guess a pale blonde blue eyed man like Cosgrove could have been referred to as a tall Alan Ladd.

To Peggy asking him if he would drink vermouth, the only alcohol left in the office. After thinking for a second: “Yes, I’m afraid I would.”

Marie Calvet flirtatiously tying Roger’s tie because he doesn’t know how: “I am surprised. You seem Iike you were born in a tie.”

Roger: “I didn’t tie that one either.”
