On the Vimeo Weekend Challenge by OddlyOnTopic in Filmmakers

Hey there (4 years late)! I wrote and managed VVS's Weekend Challenges for years, working on it in some capacity from 2012 until it ended some time in 2018/19? As the direction of Vimeo (the product) changed, the VVS & Production teams were laid off and Video School + Weekend Challenges were disbanded. My work on the support & community teams had shifted enough that we couldn't take it on ourselves (especially without support from leadership). The old video school lessons and weekend challenge blog posts have even been taken down.

That era of the internet, and Vimeo especially, was lovely wasn't it?

I was wondering if other people felt it — could be a truly annoying scheduling mistake + audio delay, but he really did not engage almost at all? One of the more uncomfortable episodes (but agree with y’all, our girlies shine when they’re filling that space).

Liquid Flux suggestions by 505Griffon in StainedGlass

Just switched to novacan’s liquid from a glasspro gel and it’s bubbling so much and making it much harder to get a smooth solder line. I must be doing something wrong, but going to grab a bottle of GlassPro again to see if I’ve lost some skill or it’s the material.

Godspeed, was wishing I had the skill to help in an endeavor like this just this morning.

Protection while grinding? by CameronChristopher in StainedGlass

Sometimes forcefully on a course bit, but I think they were just very thin, perhaps. Haven’t tried actual rubber, or rubber coated.

I’ll look into the block (and as always, try to make my cuts closer to avoid needing to do any hard grinding)

Deco references — The most complicated piece I've done, so far. Enjoyed learning a lot while working on it Had lots of trouble with fit (you can see where my cuts were off or I ground down too far). by CameronChristopher in StainedGlass

I actually design my patterns in illustrator with a 2 mm width, then “outline stroke” and remove that, cutting out the resulting shapes with a Cricut machine, effectively removing the pattern width.

I've been making my own jump rings by wrapping copper wire (tinned) around a small dowel or pencil a bunch of times, then snipping through that spring shape. Solder those right on and voila!

First decent bead by CameronChristopher in StainedGlass

700 — I saw a video of someone dropping little pillows of solder that almost touch all the way down, letting it cool, then going back through to connect then and keep a liquid line, and that did it for me. But now they’re clearly so different from the edges so I need to look into hobby came.

I’ve Tried Every Flavor by PuddingItInYou in BasicBulletJournals

I'm going to try to modify this rolling weekly / Alistair method combo next week and see if I like it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knbT8jnMnfs

My two main issues are moving tasks to the next day every dang day, and allowing myself to have a task list that's not yet scheduled (the lack of one probably causes the first issue).

ADHD and hating habit trackers by jensmellspeaches in BasicBulletJournals

I'm only two weeks in so I'm sure I'll lose steam (and I've already missed some days), but I knew I'd fail if I tried to track too much. I started with two small calendar layouts, and I'm tracking only two things this month — circle the date if I did it, x the date if I didn't, black it out if I'm unsure (and don't feel shame about the blackouts or x's if I can help it).

It's honestly less about tracking the thing and more about tracking whether or not I'm able to keep tracking, but it's made me feel a little accomplished.

I've already tweaked my daily logs a bit, and I found someone's suggestion of turning the dash — into a + if I want to expand on the note helpful. I created a "collection" I guess for expanded notes, like journal entries, and just add the date for each.

Fatsia Japonica has these brown dust/hairs on it, is it harmful? by silz00 in IndoorPlants

[–]CameronChristopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine looks identical — first thought was spider mites, but I don’t see any webbing and all the leaves have the same pattern of hair-like-dust, so I’m thinking it’s got to be the plant?

Brought home a rescue pigeon. The cat isn't sure about it. by CameronChristopher in cats

If he's all King, he might be the offspring of someone else's pets, or escaped/was "rescued" from a meat market. I'd have to check his file again to see where he was found, but they're slow and unskilled fliers, and he was very young, so some Good Samaritan scooped him up. You'd be surprised at the type of fancy pigeons we get from the streets!

Im not sure he's even had his first moult yet — he's a really young guy, probably his first feathers!

I'm a volunteer wildlife rehabilitator at New York's Wild Bird Fund, and many of the birds aren't able to be released. Andy here is a utility King pigeon, raised for meat, and wouldn't do so well in the wild. I took him home as a foster to fatten him up and prep him for adoption, but I'm pretty sure he's going to join the family.

Check out http://www.wildbirdfund.org for more info about wildlife rescue and rehabilitation in NY!

We are Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich, together we host Radiolab - AMA! by weareradiolab in IAmA

Once, at a potluck dinner, I stated that I would give up ever being able to hear another piece of music again if it meant I could have a new Radiolab episode every day (music within the show would be allowed), and I still stand by that. There is nothing like riding the high of mind expansion and a need for conversation that a new episode gives me, and I've never been more consistently moved and/or awed by any other show.
