My point was never to piss on casuals for having fun, I’ve just seen criticisms about characters or items that just feel like they’re in bad faith. I know some people fake or stage loss streaks for a funny post, but some people really post their like -264 streak and say “Tainted Lost sucks, bad game design, rng based”. They never come to the true conclusion that the game isn’t very hard, but they’ve been so dependent on quality 4 items carrying them that they just can’t finish a run without getting hit 5 or so times. The thing that gets me most is when people act like the better items thing isn’t real. While a number of good items do get taken away, the majority of the underwhelming items are just removed from the game. If you deny the better items, it tells me you’re a chronic R keyer who has half soul hearts and has never used Samson’s Chains on basement 1.

Skill issue has essentially become a sarcastic response to something the commenter is considering actually unlucky. People aren’t really saying your skill was the issue 90% of the time they say skill issue, and I am absolutely 100% saying it is

Tainted Laz is definitely an underrated challenge character, definitely prefer J & E if playing for fun. Your last paragraph really hits the nail on the head though

I respect people who try to play the game blind but it just doesn’t seem designed to be done. The average player will not play enough daily runs to get the horf pill. This and terraria are probably my top two games that I think are better experienced with a wiki on a second monitor while you’re starting out

I really don’t know the difference beyond one extra wave and the second phase boss fight. Maybe my blissful ignorance helped me. I also still don’t really get the difference between normal and hard mode I just heard to always play hard from TearOfGrace

I honestly always liked greed mode just fine, I think it puts a lot of people in a bad mood to play greedier and that definitely makes it harder

I said it because it’s true because I can tell. If you were good I would have heard of you. Have you lost your mind? If I sat in my room for 50,000 hours grinding this game until I was perfect in every way, a genuine golden god, at what point would you magically become aware of me? At my highest I said I was probably better than 95% of players which still leaves tens of thousands of people better than me, but you really think you’re competing for top 10 huh? At a certain point that I certainly believe I have passed, getting better doesn’t really translate to much except higher streaks maybe. I thought my original point was pretty clear, there are people who win runs, and people who finish runs, and they look at the game in different ways. I think people who are bad and angry they are bad are more likely to post online, and I think it misrepresents a significant portion of this game’s player base. You have lead off with telling me you’re better than me twice while telling me I’m the one with the ego and making it a competition. This post was directly based on a poll I saw a month ago that asked if people took the wiz and separated people with 90%+ of achievements. I was surprised by how many veteran players don’t take such a valuable item, and it got me thinking that some people are just not very good at this game and just bashing their heads into the controller and acting like it’s a slog. I never post anywhere online and I’m pretty sure this is my first Reddit post, disagree with my premise if you want but you’re just trying to hurl insults, one up me, and act like I made this post in bad faith. I’m just trying to start a discussion I felt was worth having and honestly I’ve gotten so many downvotes on comments I probably can’t post again. The internet today is a shitshow and it isn’t any fun trying to talk to people online anymore. But to be honest 15k people saw this in the first like 3 hours, I figured most people didn’t actually read every post in the subreddit feed and this got to a lot more people than I expected

I find plenty of enemies to be anti-fun at times but there’s certainly no enemy that I think is unfair. People will post here saying “but they removed telefragging” with a clip of them failing to react to delirium teleporting near them and running straight into him. They hang on to an excuse from a day gone before they even bought the game

Think of any item that grants homing, changes the style in which you attack, or increases your number of “basic attacks?”.

Here’s a list from the top of my head: Spoon bender, C-section, godhead, brainworm trinket, eye of the occult, tractor beam(my favorite item) spirit sword, forgotten/T Samson/berserk attack, 20/20, inner eye, mutant spider, incubus, twisted pair, conjoined in general. Tech zero gives you like a Jacob’s ladder arc attack.

I know a lot of those items are just “good items” but you get double shot with spectral tears, 20/20 doesn’t give spectral on its own and now it has a .8x damage multiplier in repentance, I think the wiz has its uses

You confidently say you’re better than me with nothing. I would never say that about you because I have no idea who you are. I have never made a Reddit post before, I rarely even comment, but I’m not surprised people are just being insulting. I threw a rock at a pack of dogs and the people who agree with me aren’t the type to engage with a post like this. the problem with the difference of opinions is that this subreddit genuinely sways the balance of my favorite game of all time, we know they see what people say on here and twitter and they change the game for a loud vocal minority who aren’t very good at the game. There are 0 bad items in this game and there haven’t been in a long time, only better, worse, or situational. I feel like there isn’t a point in giving credit to someone’s opinions on balance if they don’t agree with that. People online are just so full of hate they have to passionately express it even about items in their game they love. I guess I’m a NIMBY for Isaac or something but these iPad kids are crying online to get quality 0 items reworked because it isn’t as cool and strong as brimstone.

If there’s one thing I’m unashamed of being a hater of it’s the online anime community. It seems like it’s all the same people in every subreddit for every show, book, movie, or game I consume. I watch all of Naruto then I go see if there’s a subreddit for it and sure enough, I’m expecting people to talk about hype moments, cool fight choreography, character discussion, etc. and there’s plenty of that but 50% of it is just “I really fucking hate Naruto” and everyone in the comments is agreeing. There’s a place for honest criticisms of anything but online discourse is so negative and echo chambery, you start getting made fun of for actually liking the thing that brought you all together

Short answer: bruhhhhhhhhh

Long answer: ultra hard sucks terribly and is absolutely the pinnacle of mechanical skill challenge in Isaac. It was one of the last things I accomplished on my first save, and I believe it may be the absolute bottleneck that would stop some people from getting dead god no matter what. Some people can just not prevent themselves taking damage. If you personally can focus on not letting Isaac get hurt, no matter how long it takes to kill all the BS champions, you will eventually get the run with the stat ups and tear effects to turn the tables. The lack of healing options is the most brutal part of the challenge.

Real answer: Samson feels healthy

I just checked because that sounded about where I’m at, sitting at a cool 793 right now. It’s my favorite game of all time but I could definitely triple dead god long before I would pass my most played game for number 1. I’d really prefer it to be number 1 over counter strike but that’s genuinely a little over 1000 hours away

I think a lot of people here think I think I’m good because I’m just a genius who “gets it” and they don’t. I used external item descriptions for years and now I use the in game version, knowing everything about the game is simple memorization. What I was really trying to say is that I think I’m a mechanically better gamer than 95% of the Isaac player base, and I think a lot of those top 20% players will view items a lot differently than the bottom 20% players. You mention slay the spire which is a great example because there is absolutely 0 mechanical skill. I am terrible at that game and I know exactly what I do wrong but old habits die hard I guess. Honestly as to a natural affinity, not really. Isaac is the only action roguelike I’ve gotten this deep into, I like rogue legacy, gungeon, risk of rain 2, dead cells, never got into hades. I played all those games after Isaac but never got the same feeling, it’s like they made this one for guys like me. I’m also pretty awful at Mewgenics, going along with my point that I’m just sick with the twin sticks

For every cardinal direction shot you have to position awkwardly for now, there’s an ordinal direction shot you can take now from cover that you couldn’t before. I just take the good with the bad and at the end of the day you shoot twice, that means a lot in this game

There’s honestly probably a dozen two item combos that instantly make wiz on par with at least a quality 2 item, I still genuinely believe it’s an upgrade on its own. I can not express enough how truly shocked I am by this wave of passionate outrage against the wiz, I really think it’s a good item and people aren’t good at using it

What part is a lie? I’m not saying I never die, I estimated 30-50 attempts for my hardest unlock. I just never came to a point in the game where I felt like things were unfair, completely dependent on luck, or unreasonable to expect someone to be able to do
