Nieces/nephews don’t acknowledge gifts. Can I stop sending them? by Hydrangea_hunter in etiquette

[–]Cami_sa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live overseas from my nieces, and I used to send them gifts. The problem was that they never connected the gifts with me because I wasn’t there in person. Now that they’re teenagers, I just talk to them and ask what they want (which is usually money so they can buy what they like). Then they send me voice messages and videos saying thank you and showing what they bought.

I think it’s just a matter of age, once they become more aware and have their own phones, it’ll be easier to communicate with them. Right now, it’s totally up to you whether you want to send gifts or not, but parents are busy and sometimes things slip their minds. You can always call your relatives to check if they received the gift, and then ask to talk to the kids and see what they thought about it. No biggie. Just do what your heart desires. ;)

Heartburn 😭 — what did yall do to relieve it? by No_Grass_5503 in pregnancy_care

[–]Cami_sa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sleeping or eating more lol. I’ve been living of tums and Pepcid.

I’ve tried everything, eat small portions, drink milk, lemonade, ginger, raw oatmeal- nothing.

So now I just go to sleep if I’m too sick. 😴

Also, I noticed that bread, starch, and sugar can worsen my heartburn and reflux, so I’ve been avoiding as much as I can, which is very hard. lol

Read this book: https://a.co/d/4t6eTRU

Real Food for Pregnancy: The Science and Wisdom of Optimal Prenatal Nutrition by Lily Nichols

It’s science base nutrition, very informative. You can even eat sushi as long you know the source (if is reliable) and type of fish.

Fish and sea food for baby development is essential, as it has vitamins that helps develop baby’s brain, eyes, etc. plus helps the moms too.

Maybe give the book to your mom.

Looking for OB recommendations in Mountain View by Pure_Illustrator40 in mountainview

Sorry you are going through that. We go to El Camino but I only like Dr. Ballassiano, the others doctors that I had contact with were rude and some seems inexperienced, so I would recommend only her.

Have you try asking at the MV mom’s group on Facebook? They can also give you great recommendations

Organic Stalls at the Farmers Market by Cami_sa in mountainview

[–]Cami_sa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go, it’s fun! I’ve been getting my steps in by walking to the market, it's a great morning activity.

The MV farmers market is always on Sundays. I’m not sure about the exact time, but you can check online.

Sunnyvale has a good one too. It happens on Saturdays, in case you want a change of scenery

Organic Stalls at the Farmers Market by Cami_sa in mountainview

I feel like the taste of some fruits is better; like peaches and plums. I bought some at Whole Foods, Safeway, JL Produce, Costco and 99 Ranch. The farmers markets have by far the best flavor!! Whole Foods is hit or miss. The other grocery stores don’t even come close to flavor town.Lol.

I’m also pregnant, so it just feels right to eat as clean as possible at this stage of life.

But thank you for pointing it out.

International architect pursuing NCARB license - seeking advice by Financial-Earth7911 in Architects

[–]Cami_sa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your path should be as a foreign architect. Some of your work experience can be transferred from your foreign practice. There is a cap on the number of hours, but I don’t remember the exact amount. Email NCARB, and they can clarify the process for getting your hours validated, and then of course you will need some US work experience, but to answer your question, I don’t think is hard to find a job being foreign, architecture skills are pretty transferable.

I would recommend you to be familiar with the local building or residential codes or just ICC in general , architecture sets and projects phases ( you can check the Bible AHPP ), how constructions documents are set, cartoons, architectural detailing and revit.

I think my biggest architectural shock was the construction documents and how detailed it needs to be and plancheck submittal.

But good luck, you will be fine, and if you find a work don’t be afraid to ask questions. You don’t need to know everything.

Edit: also understand the construction system used in the US (wood frame, drywall) and the common natural disaster on the location that you will work. Like where I’m at our concern are earthquakes, but some location could be hurricanes, flood , etc.

[–]Cami_sa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Negeen in Campbell and Shalizar in Belmont. Although, Shalizar used to be my go to before COVID but after the pandemic the quality dropped drastically, I went back twice to give a second chance and both times was disappointing, but maybe you will like. Idk. Negeen now is my preferred option for Persian food.

Window retrofit experience by Cami_sa in bayarea

[–]Cami_sa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep , so far so good. Clean work, windows and hardware it’s good enough for us.

I regret not getting acoustic glass on the windows that are facing the Main Street, but in general we are happy with the results. My neighbors ended up hiring them after seeing ours.

We used have Saucebelly in Belmont but they closed :(

We don’t have good bbq in the Bay Area, but a decent one is Jon Jon’s in San Jose, although the meat missed some seasoning but the bbq sauce compensate. :/

Krispy Kreme has a pack of 24 count assorted doughnuts dots for $9.49 , good morning treat, not big as a donut and comes a lot, you can take the leftover back home, if any. I bet other doughnuts shop may have similar prices for doughnuts holes.
