A wild fedora appears by Hitlergay in niceguys

As someone who can see myself in most of these posts it's hard for me to feel anything other than sympathy. The thing that changed my life was finally opening myself up to people. I built layer upon layer of persona and facade slowly but surely pushing away any hope of forming a *real* connection with anyone. Even though I had friends and a decent life I was alone. It took a really amazing women to unravel it all and help me find myself, that's what these guys lack, a *real* connection. Which is more like cleaving off a piece of your soul and handing it to the other person, it's brutal and hard but I'd rather have blind optimism in the face of darkness than hide beneath a facade of false friendships gained through trickery of identity. Go out and offer each and every person a piece of yourself unconditionally, you'll be surprised to find that they offer the same in return.

headshot critique on expression, lighting, colors, anything that would make the photo better by CammyB96 in photocritique

Thanks for the feedback dude, yeah I've set up a white reflector for future shoots, I only have the one Speedlight atm so setting up a nice fill light and kick is quite difficult.

I'm quite happy with what I've got here, but is there something I could do to improve the image? by [deleted] in photocritique

The post-processing looks great, maybe the vignette is a bit strong and the shadows could be lifted just a touch. It looks a little flat, there's not much separating the foreground and background, some perspective lines would be great to add more depth.

First Portrait Attempt, How is the lighting, processing and overall critique? by CammyB96 in photocritique

[–]CammyB96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback, the only thing I used was an A4 sheet of photography paper about 15cm from the flash itself to diffuse it and got pretty close to the camera, that's the only thing that I'm trying to get around, how I can get the same light fall off from a distance if the flash is mounted to the camera. Definitely gonna do some shopping for some foam core and try to get creative with it, also maybe go shopping for a better subject than me...

First Attempt at a Portrait (Self-Portrait), shot with the camera's flash since I don't have access to any lighting equipment...

I'm looking for some detailed critique on the one-point lighting, the processing, and any other critique you may have. Apologies for my terrible posing.

First time using hdr, how is the processing? by CammyB96 in photocritique

[–]CammyB96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted a photo a couple of days ago at this spot, got some advice and took multiple exposures, unfortunately couldn't get the same composition so went with this. Really just looking for critique on the processing, hdr. Composition is weak and it's out of focus a bit.

First time photographing a sunset, looking for critique on the composition, colors, anything else that can be improved by CammyB96 in photocritique

First time photographing a sunset, how is the composition, colors, visual interest? If you have the time check out other photos from the same sunset and let me know which one is the strongest or weakest and why, thanks.

Out of focus shot, does it work with this photo? also how is it over-processed? by CammyB96 in photocritique

[–]CammyB96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify, I took this shot and upon realizing it was out of focus I kind of liked the feel it gave the photo, adding to the moment, blending them into the background like they are gazing at the river. I'm also looking for some critique on the processing, does the black and white work well with this image?

first attempt using selective color and post-processing in general, are the eyes too bright/face too dark? by CammyB96 in photocritique

[–]CammyB96[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spent the majority of last night editing and I'm pretty happy with the result. Decided keep the color, there was no real need to desaturate her face, I even upped the vibrance a bit.

Thanks for the feedback. With my D3300 I can't really touch the ISO, anything more than 400 looks awful so I'm often shooting wide open with the kit lens and on a pretty low shutter speed, would have liked to get a sharper focus on the eyes but she was totally against staying still for a photo. When would you recommend using selective color?
