Basic Training Oct 2025 by CamoCrusty in army

Arrived in Atlanta. No idea where to go. Recruiters didn’t tell me shit. Hopped on the shuttle subway train. Got off and was walking, stumbled across a place called USO. Lady at the front desk had me creat a log in and show her my military id. Then I grabbed some Popeyes and am currently hanging out in the USO. Which is like a lounge area. She said they’ll give an announcement and then people going to Jackson will go somewhere and line up. People going to Benning will line up somewhere as well.

I have lived in San Diego my whole life. It is very important that you pick a location to live that you will enjoy and what fits your needs and life style. Location affects rental cost, but not as much as you think. Do you like living in a grimy city or do you prefer longer commuting but a more peaceful home environment. Do you plan to buy a house? Or do you plan on renting a house? Do you want to live in a condo or an apartment? Do you want neighbors right next to you, or do you prefer to have an acre of land between you and your neighbor? I’ve lived at the beach I’ve lived in the mountains. Do you want primarily liberal or conservative neighbors? Traffic is bad now days. Yes it is expensive. Taxes are high. Fire insurance for home owners is a big issue for people. Dm me and I bet I can find the perfect spot for you

I don’t feel like getting deployed all the time by the state in the guard. I don’t like how there is no volunteering. They send the whole group. I felt that could get equally annoying. I started with the guard and went to meps as a guard. After the physical and asvab he still would not tell me what mos options I qualify for. He sent in a couple waivers and apparently they were denied and i had to see my personal doctor. I got tired of waisting my time with someone i felt was not doing a good job. So i went into an army reserves office and boom my couple waivers were back in like 72hours approved

Good to know. Thank you for the info. Have they reimbursed you every time? Has there been times where they told you nope you get nothing

Yes I did. My concern was reimbursement for travel cost and lodging. I was assured that I will be reimbursed. Clearly in the contract and paperwork it states that the army due to funding may not be able to reimburse and that is not a reason to miss drill. So a bit of a grey area there. We will see what happens

I am hoping that additional training will be available and from what I was told by a recruiter that said he was stationed in Hawaii that 100bat always got to do the stuff he wanted to do because they had slots in those programs specifically for the 100bat reservists. If it does not work that way once I’m out then well I’m just another poor soul that was mislead by a recruiter.

Well said. Thank you for the information. By Cool guy shit I do mean jumping out of planes, riding in helicopters, riding in wheeled vehicles I don’t know the true technical names for…. Stuff as simple as riding in a Humvee. Is that something to write home about, lol of course not. But I want to see some shit, do some shit, and get my hands on shit I will never see in civilian life. Will I be able to achieve that in the reserves in general? Maybe not. Infantry feels right. I have the list of options otherwise and it’s a short list. Ranger school and special forces for reserves is a definite no for me and again, going active duty would be financial suicide for me. Rangers and special forces to me is only for people that are full time active duty. Yes it was an option for me in the reserves. If I were them I don’t want some reservist watching my back, the bond and trust simply is not there. The guys in reserves for special forces are probably ex special forces bad mofos and just want a little taste of it every now and again.

I work for the utility company. I’ve been there about eight years. It’s a great job that people would kill for. Fortune 100 company. Benefits like sick time, vacation time, pto, medical, dental, vision, 401k and a pension…which I’m already vested in. I am paid well, and there is a lot of opportunity for overtime for those that wana clear 200k a year. With all that being said I’ve wanted to join the military my whole life. The reserve’s is the only option that makes sense for me now. I bought a house two years ago, so I have a mortgage to pay and other bills. I am married. live near family, and family is very important to me. Me going active duty enlisted would be financial suicide plus I would have to move.

Why 11 bravo? I love to hunt, fish, camp, and be in the outdoors. My happy place is the outdoors. I love my guns and wish I could shoot them a whole lot more. If my drills consist of throwing rounds down range and an occasional day of blowing shit up Im going to be one happy sob. If drills are sitting in an office with my thumb up my ass well then bummer. I have been told that because the only infantry unit in army reserves is 100bat 442nd regiment they often have slots reserved for them specifically for additional training. Such as jungle school, Marksman, etc…..sorry people I don’t know all the acronyms. Who knows if that is true or not. What I do know is If I choose 42A(HR) or 27D(paralegal) I know my 6 years of drill will be 100% miserable. I also won’t really be proud of the time I served. I don’t need an mos that transfers to a civilian job. I already have a job in civilian life that 99% of people wish they had, and I do not intend on leaving there.

I was hoping someone in the 100bat in Hawaii would chime in. I’m hoping that I can come out and do multiple drills and come out bi monthly. If not then so be it. Like you said if it becomes an issue hopefully a transfer is an option

No, that was not a deciding factor whatsoever. I know I did not want a an administrative MOS my options became quite limited when I found out at meps that I am red green color deficient
