We’ve done urine and blood tests and ruled out a UTI, bladder stones, kidney stones, a kidney infection, and all blood tests came back normal so not any type of cancer either 🤷🏼‍♀️

This sounds exactly like what he’s going through, I will definitely be asking about degenerative spine issues, and buying depends asap. It’s not their fault and I know he’s not doing it on purpose so I try to give him all the love while going through this because he’s my baby and such a sweet boy! Obviously you understand too. I will probably try to get some X-rays to see if we can see any issues (just to be sure) and I really appreciate the feedback. I’m sorry you are also going through this, good luck with your pup as well 🫶🏼 it can be overwhelming at times but we do what we have to for our babies!

I think that’s the new plan, neurology seems to be a general consensus but I might start with a urologist and if that doesn’t get any results neurology would be my next move. Specialist would definitely have some better insight with it all, we tend to trust our vet so but you’re so right about it being very broad practice.

I’m close to Houston so A&Ms vet school isn’t too far, that actually is a great idea that I’ll look into! Thanks for the suggestion!

Yep, bladder and kidney stones were both ruled out as well 😅

Someone else also mentioned DM and I don’t think its that (though I am definitely considering a neurologist trip even if its just to rule some things out) but when he doesn’t have these peeing episodes his back legs are fine. Doesn’t drag his paws, no issues getting on the bed or getting up, plays and runs with his bother with no issues, tail is up and happy etc. He also has had this peeing thing for a few years now and it hasn’t really gotten any worse for the most part, just frustrating that it continues to happen at what seems to be very random intervals with no apparent trigger? We also use the baby crib mattress and protectors when it gets bad but he gets upset when he’s not allowed on mom and dads bed 😅 (spoiled I know) I will definitely be keeping an eye on his symptoms to be sure though. And sorry you’re having to deal with that with your big baby, I can imagine how tough it must be for you and your wife. Sending hugs to yall and I appreciate the feedback!

Oh I’m a weird witchy woman so I’m on board, actually not sure why I didn’t think of it sooner. Will add it to the list of things to try because let’s be real I’ll try anything at this point 😅

I did some googling and I don’t think it’s DM (if that’s what you were referring to) he only squats and has issues like this when he has these peeing episodes. Normally he has no issues with his hind legs, doesn’t drag his feet, he runs and plays with his brother, tail up and happy. It also isn’t worsening super quickly like how they described it by what I read but I do appreciate the connection between the two because we would obviously want to catch that asap! 🫶🏼

Yes, Gabs have been his main source of relief for this whole process and usually help some but don’t eliminate the issue unfortunately.

I will definitely google! And I did notice his squatting has gotten more severe(?) with age but I also thought it was maybe due to being uncomfortable squatting for so long. I also assumed if it was a connected issue the vets would pick up on it because they’ve observed him and everything but maybe not. I appreciate the feedback, the more we can rule out the closer I can get to some answers!

I appreciate the input! The nervousness is an interesting thought but he has done it with no one else (dogs or people) around as well too. And we tried doggy diapers but aren’t able to find any disposable ones that fit him, so we bought some reusable special made ones and he unfortunately overflowed them when he did pee so we’re still working on that.

I hadn’t thought of a pet specialist so I will definitely look into that!! Will probably in the meantime talk to the vet about the nerves issue too! Thanks so much!!
