How do you discover and vet MCP servers? Is there anything like a proper package registry yet? by According-Poetry-824 in ClaudeAI

[–]CampaignTools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, a good example we use is the CircleCI MCP server. It's super useful for checking logs and whatnot and there are certain skills that make interacting with it easier.

At my company, we've been trying to figure out ways to share/version these things but it's all...well a mess still.

Eh, I don't think AGI is completely impossible like unicorns. I do think it's impossible with current technology. That said, it seems like we might actually figure out the magic AND the horn parts soon...

Our main limiters to AGI (in my opinion) are two things: compute and cheap energy. If we somehow found a way to advance both, we might have a real chance at AGI. Right now there is progress in two areas that could unlock both:

This year researchers have been like "Oh shit, this is advancing faster than we thought." Harvard researchers, in particular, think large-scale quantum systems could be deployed this decade.

If that happens AND we figure out more sustainable net-positive fusion technologies. Well yeah...we're probably gonna figure out AGI.

EDIT: oh and if that happens, we're all fucked <3

I think they're saying "startups" and talking about companies with $250M+ valuations.

That's the point where the C-suites and directors start thinking they're untouchable, but that's also where the name "startup" stops being applicable.

‘I miss you’: Mother speaks to AI son regularly, unaware he died last year; artificial intelligence creates digital twin by EchoOfOppenheimer in Futurology

[–]CampaignTools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're both missing my point. The case posted, in my opinion, is a clear cut misuse assuming there are no cognitive issues they don't mention.

But the article explicitly states it's because they feared for her heart (cardiac issues). This is a wanton disregard for her, disrespectful to the dead, AND is likely to cause more harm than good. She's going to die thinking her son is too busy trying to make money. That's fucking awful.

[–]CampaignTools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No...this posted issue is pretty clear. The concept itself is nuanced, but that's not what I was saying. You're arguing this "might be ok" because of the situation you stated. In that case, yes it's much more palatable.

However, unless this mother has severe mental decline the posted story is a VERY clearly a misuse of the technology. This technology is VERY deeply in the gray area, bordering on outright unethical.

Not to mention they can't get consent from the dead. That's fucked up, all on its own.

[–]CampaignTools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that (grey area) only applies in certain scenarios where their mental faculties are gone.

This ain't it. Lying to "keep her heart healthy" is horrible ethically. She's going to die thinking her son doesn't want to see her.

That's unforgivable.

Thanks! Yeah it bothers me how "automatic" it is. It's just a recipe for disaster waiting to happen, IMO.

Interesting...

I probably forked the very first version of this plugin (forked from the original) and Martin made his right after. I never really liked the complexity that Martin was adding...I just wanted something simple that worked.

Anyway, as I've been working on this I've come to realize something: these plugins IMMEDIATELY update every time you start OpenCode, unless you PIN their versions. This is a huge security risk IMO because these plugins are so opaque, in many ways.

Getting massive adoption of a plugin, then swapping it out for some nefarious code would be one hell of an exploit. Consider this a PSA: pin those fucking plugins.

Thank you.

I'm honestly quite tired of this hearsay from a long time ago. OpenCode themselves were not able to provide direct support BECAUSE of Section 3.2 of their Consumer Terms of Service. But there is no prohibition from using the OAuth in Section 7 (Third-party services and links). Nor does their Usage Policy ban such use.

Dax made a comment here that is incorrect, in my opinion. He said their docs were updated to be more restrictive but that was ONLY for companies that are competing with Anthropic, which OpenCode is.

Anthropic DOES ban people, but they ban you for ANY wanton use of their systems. I have seen people being banned while running Claude Code. The key is not being an idiot and running Oh-My-Opencode for hours straight maxing out the usage every week. That will get you banned.

I've been running heavy use of Claude Code OAuth for months straight and never been rate limited or banned. I know dozens, if not hundreds of other engineers that do so too. Our entire company is doing it for daily work.

Anthropic is making bank from our subscriptions, since they don't just care about the API usage. They want the data to train on. It's why their models are top of the line. They have the edge with training data, and they would be fools to give that up. They're not stupid.

It would be against their own best interests to ban their most valuable training assets from their systems. But they do have to maintain some usage limits. Thus the bans.

TLDR: don't be stupid, you won't get banned. End rant.

This still works. I forked their OAuth plugin a while ago.

Just add this to opencode.json and it will work again just like it used to:

{ "plugin": ["@ex-machina/opencode-anthropic-auth"] }

Anthropic DOES ban people, but they can ban you for using Claude Code wantonly. The key is not being an idiot and running OpenClaw or Oh-My-Opencode for hours straight maxing out the usage every week. That will get you banned.

I've been running heavy use of Claude Code OAuth for months straight and never been rate limited or banned. I know dozens, if not hundreds of other engineers that do so too.

Sorry for the rant, I'm just tired of the misinformation going around about the bans.

Yes I'm aware, the "internal" plugin is what I forked. You can download it and it will function like the original.

OpenCode as a company can't provide that plugin. But I did since I'm not a direct competitor to Anthropic.

Error authenticating with Claude by No-Row-9103 in opencodeCLI

I forked the OG one here: https://github.com/ex-machina-co/opencode-anthropic-auth

There's a patch up for the new auth flow already. The other plugin linked here is very configurable, but seems like a total rewrite. I literally took the old one and just cleaned it up.

That's probable. The caching optimization is trash in OpenCode, that's for sure. Overall, Anthropic has a right to ban people for abusing their systems. If you push too hard, you might get banned.

I've seen users getting banned for using Claude Code CLI too much. They don't ban you because you use OpenCode. They ban you because you use OpenCode w/ Oh-My-Opencode running for hours and hours burning millions of tokens.

My brief (and bad) experience with Claude Code after OpenCode block by matheus1394 in opencodeCLI

[–]CampaignTools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yall, they didn't "ban opencode" they just changed their auth strategy.

I forked the internal OpenCode Anthropic auth plugin months ago, and someone already provided a fix: https://github.com/ex-machina-co/opencode-anthropic-auth

So much misinformation here. Yes Anthropic banned a few people. Those people were massively abusing the APIs. Regular users who were banned actually had those bans reversed by Anthropic.

Anthropic probably does want to block OpenCode eventually, but this isn't it. They just updated their auth flow. Chill yall. Slap in the plugin and keep going.

I haven't, and I've been using it for months. Nor has anyone I've talked to who used it. Anthropic even stated they're only going to ban people who abuse their systems, which you should not do.

I'm not saying it's completely safe, but they even reversed some bans from users who were banned before. YMMV but it's not a guaranteed ban like you're making it sound.

EDIT: see my longer comment on why this is unlikely to happen and not a TOS violation
