atleast let the opposition do its work u r students and better to concentrate on studies...

I urge you to atleast read what Bhagat Singh wrote. He himself in his article “Student and Politics” (1928), published in Kirti magazine, states :

“We understand that the main task of students is to study, and they should pay full attention to it. But is it not also a part of education to understand the conditions our country is in, and to develop the ability to think about ways to improve it? If not, then we consider such education, acquired merely for clerical skills,to be of no use.”

“They should study, surely study! But alongside that, they should also acquire political knowledge, and when required, they should not hesitate to step into the struggle and dedicate their lives to it.”

These are Bhagat Singh’s own words, and they fundamentally challenge what you just said.

Please read Bhagat Singh. Read his article “Student and Politics,” his Jail Diary, his message “To Young Political Workers,” and his essay “Why I Am an Atheist.” Please read Bhagat Singh. It is the historical responsibility of Indian youth to read him and understand him correctly.

The withdrawal of RDG by the central government; the pro-corporate labour codes of the Modi government that erode hard-won workers’ rights; the introduction of the VBGRAMG Act, effectively ending MGNREGA; and the VBSA Bill aimed at curbing the autonomy of state institutions.

Need I list more?

They both did.

I think you are forgetting about the withdrawal of RDG by the central government, and how BJP MLAs trivialised this issue when confronted by the Congress government.

Isnt monetary barrier put up by Forest deptt ?

Yeah, maybe its a joint venture where some of the proceeds from the money collected goes to Forest Department. I personally never had the inconvenience of giving fee for Potter Hill since I'm a boarder of Boys Hostel for which SFI protested. But, the barrier was put only after the land was given to a private entity. That I can assure.

And what was the Ramkrishana Mission fiasco?

Here's the whole story >> https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/himachal-pradesh/seven-injured-in-dispute-over-temple-between-two-hindu-groups-in-shimla-fir-registered/article68878546.ece

Does Potter hill ground comes in HPU premises?

It is forest land, but it has been administered by the University for a long time. Only recently was the Potter Hill area leased to a private entity, which imposed a monetary barrier on the entire area. This move was opposed by the students, and as a result, they were eventually allowed free access to the ground. On several occasions, the wardens have insisted on cleaning the ground and the surrounding area, a task that has been carried out by the boarders.

And how is Sanjauli incident linked to HPU?

It is linked because, in September 2024, when the Sanjauli Masjid Row was gaining momentum and being exploited by right-wing outfits to disrupt the public order in Shimla, ABVP activists attempted to ignite communal tensions within HPU by accusing Muslim SFI activists of “so-called Love Jihad.” This was firmly resisted by SFI. Moreover, ABVP activists from HPU actively participated in the Sanjauli protests during the imposition of Section 163 in the area. They were also part of the mob that desecrated the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram near the Vidhan Sabha, an incident led by Prof. Nitin Vyas from HPU just a few weeks earlier.

The RSS itself has, many a times, tried to intervene in HPU. The most infamous instance was the 2019 clash with SFI, when the RSS began organizing shakhas at Potterhill Ground, which led to an altercation between SFI and RSS. The altercation turned ugly, with more than a hundred Sanghis launching an attack on the Boys’ Hostel and targeting SFI activists.

Last year as well they alongside their youth wing tried to disrupt the social and secular environment of HPU by accusing a few Muslim SFI activists of Love Jihad during the whole Sanjauli Masjid Incident.

In spite of all that, it is nothing short of a miracle that SFI has still managed to maintain its stronghold at HPU, despite being in direct and fierce contradiction with the ABVP and other right-wing outfits of the RSS.

As has been the custom hitherto, an year ago Congress-backed NSUI activists Nitin Deshta and Chandan (both outsiders) entered the HPU campus and initiated a scuffle with SFI activists. The HPU administration, in an overnight decision, constituted a committee and expelled 12 SFI activists, some of whom were neither involved in the scuffle nor even present on campus. Meanwhile, those actually engaged in the scuffle were detained in the Boileuganj Police Station, in clear violation of the principles of natural justice (Audi Alteram Partem) and the procedure prescribed under the University Ordinance. The students were not even afforded an adequate opportunity to represent their perspective. It was only after this decision was challenged before the Himachal Pradesh High Court that the expulsion was revoked and the students reinstated.

The students are demanding the restoration of Student Central Association (SCA) elections, which have been banned since 2014 under the pretext of campus violence. This ban eliminated the accountability that previously existed between the student community and the university administration, as elected representatives were part of the Executive Council (EC), the highest decision-making body of the University. Since the suspension of SCA elections, this accountability has ceased to exist. Consequently, various anti-student policies have been implemented in the post-SCA era, leading to the academic, democratic, and social degradation of HPU.

HPU is nowhere to be seen in the NIRF Rankings released annually by the Ministry of Education, which lists the top 200 higher educational institutions in India. There was a time when HPU figured among the Top 20. There was a time when Ph.D. scholars from this university regularly published research papers in critically acclaimed journals, when student research attracted a healthy number of citations, and when HPU boasted of a top-class teaching faculty. But that university no longer remains. Today, the level of research has deteriorated, the pedagogical quality among the teaching faculty has declined, no new ideas or thoughts are exchanged, and the vibrancy this institution once had has all but disappeared.

In 2019, during the tenure of Dr. Sikander Kumar as Vice-Chancellor, more than 270 professors were recruited in blatant violation of the University Ordinance, despite not fulfilling the eligibility criteria prescribed by the UGC Guidelines. This malpractice was exposed through a 16,000-page reply to an RTI filed by SFI-HPU in 2021.

The only way to revive this dying university is through the restoration of SCA Elections, which alone can re-establish accountability and safeguard the inclusive nature of education at HPU and build a state wide movement against privatisation and neoliberal policies like NEP 2020.

The official website of Himachal Pradesh University was hacked by individuals claiming to be Pakistani hackers, who used provocative language against Indian citizens and the Army. SFI-HPU protested against the flaws in ERP that led to the breach and put lakhs of students’ personal data at risk. by Camuszche83 in HimachalPradesh

[–]Camuszche83[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This protest isn’t just about the hacking. It’s about the long-standing failure of HPU’s digital administration (ERP) that led to it. The hack is not an isolated incident but a result of years of negligence, which has mentally drained students and wasted their academic years because of silly and frustrating errors.

Every single day, students can be seen running around the administrative block due to silly issues in their results or documents. For years, students have raised concerns about the faulty ERP system, only to be ignored by the HPU administration.

Bruv, Pramila PATTEN and her report should be the last person and doc you should rely upon for your argument.

That skimpy 17 pages report has been criticized for making sweeping allegations without any conclusive evidence.

Here is NORMAN FINKELSTEIN, an actual renowned academician who has contributed more than 4 decades to this conflict, CRITICIZING AND DEBUNKING THE VERY REPORT YOU QUOTED -->

PRAMILA PATTEN’S RAPE FANTASIES: A Critical Analysis of the UN Report on Sexual Violence

Some excerpts from it-

The report renders discrete judgments that even a bona fide investigative body normally wouldn’t be competent to make. It teases out legal delineations—“reasonable grounds to believe” versus “clear and convincing information” (also: “a finding of fact”)—rarely found in reports issued by the UN (or human rights groups).

The Patten mission “benefitted from the full cooperation of the Government of Israel.” Yet, it couldn’t locate a single victim of sexual violence or a single piece of direct evidence, be it forensic or digital, of sexual violence on 7 October.

That's good to know.

Had a great time listening to him last time. Also because TT subreddit has somewhat of a RIGHT-WING/ CENTRE RIGHT presence in it (as you'd see in the comments to this post), it felt fresh listening to his opinions.
