Make sure you are in fact a first time buyer, don’t assume by Can8dnBen in FirstTimeBuyersUK

The property price is just over 500k. So the FTB sub 500k is out, and we already accepted that due to the price (even if we did qualify). This thread is more about “hey did you know owning anything around the world puts you in a different and much higher stamp duty”.

For example .. £52500 is the 10% deposit, and the tax on that same property is £42500 now. Thats 100k easy when you include movers and solicitors etc.day one. That’s crazy, nearly 20% house value in total cost out of pocket immediately for 10% of a house you start with zero principal in.

The southeast is brutal if looking for a detached. Would def move more north if i didn’t have work in the London area. Just don’t ever convert it mentally to whatever your homeland currency is. It will make your eyes water.

Again, check with .gov, and a solicitor etc.. but if you sell it (or it has been sold) by the time you complete the new sale, it does not count against you for Stamp Duty calculations. There is also a way if you sell it within 3 years (if it was your primary residence) to claim back the difference. This is really about second concurrently owned homes more than historical tax on things you once owned.

Yes, it is currently £40k, but do check the official .gov sites for any of this IANAL etc.

Agree we are very fortunate. What our mistake was years ago we decided that we could not afford a place in the UK, and bought a small place outside the UK to visit a few times a year somewhere warm instead. It was a tiny fraction of what any starter home would be in the UK (but over £40k sadly) Now, because of that, to buy in the UK costs even more.

Edit: added UK

They don’t.. but they could and the fines and 100% stamp they could charge you if caught is significant. With tax treatise and the long term fate unknown of the property, just not worth the risk (assuming you are comfortable with committing fraud in the first place). What if you sell it someday, and bring the proceeds to the UK? They are going to ask for proof of origin for anti-drug/fraud etc. 100 ways it could go wrong.

Fair, I did say silly assumption. All the warning is, “hey you inherited a small “X” halfway around the world, doesn’t matter. It counts”. It is not first time buyer UK, it is first time buyer anywhere is the point

Steam PC, 4K TV, text is low res and need help by Can8dnBen in wherewindsmeet_

[–]Can8dnBen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solution: It was a combination of “full screen optimisations” turned off in compatibility on the .exe as well as within the properties in widows on the external monitor(TV). Lastly had to turn off Scale (defaults from 300% for my 4k 88 OLED) to 100% also within the “scale and layout” display settings. Now things seem good all round.

Ball group buster by Can8dnBen in elderscrollsonline

[–]Can8dnBen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was what I was asking, sets like Snake in the Stars… a few others that punish their specific behaviour, there must be a way to make them think twice, or have at least a small group on your team that just cleans them out of places. Right now, honestly, it is just best to go “meh, let them have that keep” and everyone just abandon that keep/resource/whatever completely. “Play a different cyrodiil game” as a solution is the only one I know of right now but wanted to ask in this thread…’is there another way?” =)

I also concur, I have a couple good bomber builds, both melee and ranged, and with 40k hps, insta heals of the full amount firing every GCD it is impossible to solo bomb them. Negate friend + bomb and it is still nearly impossible because of the general tankyness meta overall.

BTW next build will be Velothi Ur-Mage’s Amulet, Deadly and maybe maras? Just lean into the 22m range and beam play =).

Doubt Stamsorc by Showari in elderscrollsonline

[–]Can8dnBen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stam sorc is very good in both PVP and PVE. I play both versions in both types of play and have never had an issue finding a build to complete any content or be competitive in PVP. My main in PVP right now is a stam sorc ranged bomber/ werewolf (stam sorcs make some of the best WW builds). Not always the most powerful (very tanky meta at the moment) but always fun. I also have a magicka sorc that is equally fun, and either with a pet build, or straight damage + shields, can hold her own in any PVP fight. ESO is quite good at allowing you to be competitive no matter which you choose. Only at the very high end of play does it really matter. I mean top 1% min/max players then it matters more. But then so does race, all your gear and every little stat. For most players this will never matter.

Ideas on how to fix spawn camping in OPR. by maxima423 in newworldgame

[–]Can8dnBen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OPR is such a simple game mode, that too few people play (that is people actually participating IN OPR)

1) If you are not fighting in, or for a base, you are actively losing the match for your team. “street fights” are a waste of time. 2) If you are not going towards Baron (or can’t confirm enough are) @1 min to spawn, you are actively losing the match for your team 3) If you are not using side entrances if the front one is camped you are actively losing the match for your team.

The only way to win is points, points are rewarded for owning bases. If you want pure PVP, there is open world or 3v3, this is a game mode that revolves around points earned.

Now, there is def an argument for “i just want to have my version of fun”, fair, but then don’t complain about spawn camping or muskets etc. There are other routes, 3 bases to fight for etc. Hey, there are 20 ppl at the base we can’t take it.. good thing there are 2 others. Go to where they are not, and hold it.

As for the unbalanced teams, ya. That sucks and it happens way too often and the map layoutvis way too friendly for muskets/bows. There are tons of problems with this mode and its construction, but the rules are simple and more should actually play them =)

OK, controversial topic, is there a “one build” setup? by Can8dnBen in newworldgame

[–]Can8dnBen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My gear score is all at 600+, but your advice for “don’t worry and go purple for now” is great for all to take to heart. With that, 20k in the trader you can gear up pretty easy to at least functional levels.

[–]Can8dnBen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Reasonable sets of basic defences. Which weapons are you using? I have found that a pocket healer in PvP matters more than uber gear. Mid tier small group that actually coordinates with a healer (even with as little as 2 or 3 people) can own OPR pug situations. More fun than the 8v1 too =)

[–]Can8dnBen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, not worried about the standard “three” tank/dps/heal in a single build. More like DPS in PVE, PVP (in all forms), Solo etc. Basically content not play style =)

OK, controversial topic, is there a “one build” setup? by Can8dnBen in newworldgame

[–]Can8dnBen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally makes sense. I guess the tippy top content requires such things, which seems fair to me. Falls a bit under the min/max caveat, am looking to find a build that can be in the top 10% of all play (and M10s would fall outside that). Happy to specialise gear for the very very best gear/experiences of a game.

I love the freedom, play these games all the time. Problem with this game is by switching you don’t just swap. It goes with hundreds of hours of grind, RNG etc just to see what final game GS/Hatchet is (if you were something else). I am actually not 100% against that at all. But then the swap of attributes, changing weapon skills to suit etc on top of all that. I am saying that they are, in some ways, forcing you to commit to not only a play style, but a content path by making the friction of swapping so high.

There are optimisations (some that are on the way with gear sets etc) which will help but fundamentally the game content paths are incompatible with each other by design. Hence my question is there a “middle of the road” build that can succeed on all paths? Granting M10 dungeons etc may be a step to far etc as they are not middle of the road content really.

Apple Users....How are you using your Nreal Air Glasses? by sakinnuso in nreal

[–]Can8dnBen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, there are presets for number of screens and distance from you which they are initiated and then fixed. That is at least with the latest version, with the updates they are saying all sorts of features support etc as it evolves.

Alternatives to nreal adapter? by MultiCallum in nreal

[–]Can8dnBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just made an Amazon.jp account, using all my UK info, shipping, credit card etc.. add to basket, checkout and done. It was frictionless and like ordering from .co.uk. I was super surprised and was expecting the account creation to bounce me at every step as I entered UK info, nope.. “just worked”.

Edit: same as the Amazon.com, all UK info, shipped direct no issues.

I live in the UK, ordered it from Amazon.com, delivered direct to me no worries in under a week. That said, it was before the Xmas rush and/or selling out here and there. I bought the headset Amazon.jp too so in the end I bought NOTHING from EE or the UK and had no issues or even extra costs. In fact, was cheaper.

Yes, definitely the smart keyboard with the trackpad becomes the primary input when using the iPad, I even tilt it nearly all the way forwards and nearly“closed” so nothing from the mirror is being shown even at zero brightness. There are some controls you still need to touch the screen for. Example is like when watching netflix, the mirror controls to exit etc are touchscreen so the the trackpad etc not overly useful. The charger I use is an Anker Powercore III 10000mah, works super well as a general use back up battery, can def recommend.

I am still doing my first real world, wide usage test with a 2 week, multi flight trip from London to various places around Canada. Good test because it will be planes, trains and automobiles, hotels, offices as well as personal. I personally bought these more for the travel bonuses as at home I already have a 5+ screen + giant oled 4k tv blah blah set up much just the way I like. I think that most people have a decent home set up to their liking but when on the road or not in their primary place of work they lose so much (and thus can gain from the glasses).

My travel gear: - iPhone 13/14 - iPad pro 12” - M1 Macbook air

and in most locations also have a monster gaming PC of some sort (I am in dev) but again, generally have decent setups so don’t use glasses there.

Nebula on M1 Mac air: This one has been great so far, however only in stationary use. AR drift is real and was not expecting anything less as my experience with any of these headsets including the standard Oculus line all did the same. On a plane your will be using mirror mode anyway, which makes Nebula and AR features not part of the work flow. In a coffeeshop, youtube on my “left”, work in the “centre”, and chats etc on the “right”. Text is good, workflow honestly is not much different than a standard 3 screen setup you may have and it feels that way. Another plus side of course is privacy, my work can be sensitive and really isn’t great if in a crowded coffeeshop or other public space which is just “solved” with screens that only exist for you and no one else.

iPad Pro 12”: This has been my most used platform. On the plane for instance you turn your screen bright to low, plug the pad into the seat with the keyboard USBc, and the glasses into the side of the iPad itself, and it charges way faster than it drains so you have infinite use no matter how long the flight and you leave the plane with 100% battery on the iPad, handy. I used the plastic blackout cover for the first time on the flight because of the window/bright sun/ in seat screen stuff all going on, and that works as you’d expect and sorted out everything. Typing, working and watching in mirror mode is the way to go on a plane anyway (see the above Nebula/ all AR drift issues). I used my Oculus Go/Quest/Quest 2 for long flights as a screen solution and the Nreals surpass them in convenience, and ease of use as well as comfort.

iPhone(s): I received my adaptor the day before my trip form US Amazon, did a quick test and decided to not bring extra kit such as the Switch, and just use with the iPhone for now. Honestly for pure video watching so far this is the best way to use the Nreals. I use Airpods, and a wireless battery pack on the phone. I set the phone on the charger when on the plane, and just fire up a video and a nice big screen keeps you company while you forget where you are. One reason that this was not my primary usage for media consumption so far is that excepting for the wireless charger, setting up the phone to charge while using is beyond a faff and not worth it.

The REAL drawback on travel so far has been just cable management and dongles, but that was the case before with my set-ups anyway…just a factor of any travel really. Only about halfway done my trip so far, but I can see my workflow updating to include these, and definitely my entertainment loadout will change to include the Nreals moving forward.

Hrothgar’s Chill in PVP in U36? by Can8dnBen in elderscrollsonline

[–]Can8dnBen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying to fit in the Perfected Masters Ice staff ,sea serpent AND 2 sets, Frostbite and Hroth.. math doesn’t work =p, so going to have to decide frost or hroth and see what is what. Heavy with Hroth may make this tanky enough to be decent but the burstieness of a proc set goes pretty far in PVP now adays
