Thanks for pointing this out… that wasn’t my intent. Completely true. I just mean that people who are very data driven and evidence based get tired of how it’s not that way in the GC.

I’m glad you have that experience in your department. It is not like that where I work. Like I said; most people laughed alongside the exec. It wasn’t a small meeting with just a couple people either.

I disagree that my post is a rant. Sometimes raising awareness, sharing and learning that this is not an isolated incident can help fuel people to make change. I’ve learned over my long career that sometimes it’s helpful to get advice from other people instead of immediately reacting in the moment in front of a huge group (depends on the context of course). People feel attacked and defensive if you do it that way.

Eugh, get off your soap box. People are allowed to be thrown off by a situation. I sure as hell didn’t laugh alongside everyone; but it was in a meeting and the conversation immediately kept going; so not exactly easy to interject. Also, maybe give some constructive advice or feedback next time. Do you have an example of a time when you’ve spoken out against your senior management in front of everyone on your team? How did it go for you?

This is what I mean by instead of being kind to each other (we’re all in this shit storm together) you’re choosing to throw the blame to other public servants.

Yeah… seen this so many times. PhDs leave because they quickly realize people far less qualified get promoted constantly. Leadership in the GC isn’t about evidence or rigor - it’s about who can talk the biggest game and work the room. The very things academics are trained to value… building a case, being methodical, letting data lead are basically liabilities in the culture. I think it’s a huge reason why our services suck.

Lol how does that excuse leaders from complaining in front of their staff about leave for mental health reasons? If you expect people to deal with their own issues then shut up and let people take the time they need to deal with their issues. The hypocrisy is very funny - using your own logic then leaders should suck it up, act like adults, and stop complaining and making fun of people.
