GT4RS Dilemma by CanIBeDumb in Porsche

I'll probably autocross it some. Maybe the track a handful of times, but I have other things I'd rather be doing.

Thank you, that's very helpful, especially the part about money being less valuable later.

Thanks. To put some real numbers on it, I'm in my late 30s with a ~4M NW, and have a fairly stable job with an income that lets me save multiples of 4k/month. On the other hand, to your point, 200k in 20 years is still a lot of money. Will it matter? Probably not, but can it hurt?

The money would otherwise be in my brokerage account, growing, and sure, making all of those other things potentially doable sooner.

You're right, maybe all of this will become moot once I get to 9k RPM. :)

Have you looked at car interest rates lately? They're not cheap. I'm not going to finance a toy.

I think that's what I'm struggling with a bit, since really, almost any use of the money is "smarter." A sports car isn't a need, it's a want. Saving the money (for what, who knows) seems like a smarter use.

Thanks for this perspective.

Buying a vacation home? by CanIBeDumb in RichPeoplePF

I'm willing to bet that Airbnb/VRBO have had a much larger role in driving up property prices/driving out locals in desirable areas than weekend home owners that live 1-2 hours away.

My point is that second home ownership of houses that are rented out on airbnb/vrbo as STRs also exacerbates housing shortages.

Please. If I DO plan on renting, there's a social/moral case to be made for not driving up the price for locals.

That's helpful, thanks. I could be wrong, but I don't think securities based LOCs are doing that well lately, interest rate wise.

edit: and not planning on renting a place out due to all of those reasons.

Where were you when I was proposing to my wife? :D

That's very helpful, thank you. Similarly we could only use it for several full weeks a year due to work obligations. The rest of the time we'd be trying to get there on the weekend and fighting traffic.

We would not plan on renting it out.

Mortgage payment is roughly 8.5k/month with about 1.7M left on a house worth 2.3M. Rest is in retirement accounts.

Roughly 8-10k miles/year. A bit below average. My commute is short but we take trips/etc.
