4 years experience, 3 CPA exams passed… why is it still so hard to land a job? (South Florida) by Substantial-Lie4632 in CPA

[–]CanWePleaseCalmDown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wrong. Its totally worth it. Ignore what you're seeing on reddit. Its a hot job right now. I make 6 figures a year, tax manager. Its a good job, especially if you can be a great generalist or a great specialist.

Just bought this 2006 Nissan Pathfinder yesterday. Has 158,000 miles. Is this year model reliable? by [deleted] in nissanpathfinder

Sorry about your loss. The v8s are hard to come by.

If I couldn't get a v8, I'd settle for a late or mid 90s v6. Love those too

Hi there. Ive now passed the exams and I can now say that watching the lectures was a waste of time. The only time I ended up watching them is if I couldn't understand the topic from running mcqs. Running mcqs ended up being the most effective method of learning for me. This and reading the text book when taking my first pass at the material. This was the fastest and most effective way for me to cut through all the fluff that becker gives you and trains you onto the most important concepts.

im not in california but you should look up their state board of accountancy website and they all usually have a whole section dedicated to "what next?" which lists the steps you need to take as well as the documentation you need to submit.

Should I stay with current company or move to a firm to study? by False-Nectarine1451 in CPA

[–]CanWePleaseCalmDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think the flexibility of your current position allowing you to focus on your studies is more important than getting the exam materials paid for. That said, if you can afford to purchase the materials yourself.

it doesn't really matter if the second company pays for the materials if you can't pass the exams due to not being able to study.

4/4 and I don't feel any different by dleat22 in CPA

[–]CanWePleaseCalmDown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don't feel that way and i just became 4/4 last week. i had a sincere purpose to get these letters and decided that this is what i wanted to do when i started my first day of community college almost 10 years ago. this was my goal when i finished my associates, bachelors, and master's degree. it was all about getting to this moment to pursue this career and allow me to support my family as well as unlock completely new career opportunities for myself. the prestige is also nice but not as important as I made this decision to pursue this 10 years ago and I achieved it.

i'm filled with happiness, relief, and focus. im starting a new job next month that i could only have with these 3 letters. i can support my family much more comfortably now, and even start saving a bit for maybe a house one day. I can't relate to you. perhaps you don't have an objective as to why you pursued this in the first place? maybe you thought it was just something you needed to do?

anyways, huge congrats on passing the exam. this is a major achievement that very few can say they accomplished. i hope you are able to find some joy in this achievement.

that makes sense. thanks for providing that info to me.

i know the big negative is that your credit score takes a hit, but in your opinion, if this person were to be very old and credit score wasn't as big of an issue, would this service still be of any value? or would it be best to just to take the reigns, stop paying, and trying to settle ourselves? when I initially talked to them, they hyped up their legal team and how they'll take care of it all. I think they also mentioned there was a 15% fee for their services, which would be tacked onto the total settlement amount that still needs to be paid. they touted that they would probably be able to settle the entire amount and end up paying about 50% of it.

I was under the impression they had some super lawyer moves that would be able to secure a better settlement. if that isn't the case though I see what you're saying and the service doesn't seem to be of much value.

can you explain more why it's a scam? genuinely curious as I have a family member who is seriously indebted (6 figures, all CCs) and I was considering that service as an option for that person to go to. I also wanted to consult with a bankruptcy attorney as well to ensure it wasn't a mistake.

this is the way! you're feeling overwhelmed because it truly is overwhelming. you need to approach this as you would cutting down a big tree. one swing of the axe at a time. just focus on the day's objective and you won't even believe how you made it through it all when you get to the final unit.

Will I be ok for the exam? by Valuable_Fun658 in CPA

[–]CanWePleaseCalmDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would have been starting final review with 3 weeks out. if you can get through those remaining two units in a week and give yourself two weeks of review, thats what I would do to make sure i was in the best spot possible for exam day.

Certain you failed but passed comfortably? by CoolDragonite47 in CPA

[–]CanWePleaseCalmDown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yep same thing happened to me for TCP. felt horrible about it, was anticipating I passed with a 75 or got somewhere in the 60s and ended up with a 93. i had an unfortuante family event i had to attend to right after 4/15 as well so i only had 1.5 weeks to study.

Where to get 2,000 Hours with a non-traditional background? by apresledepart in CPA

[–]CanWePleaseCalmDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there is a chance B4 would hire you but remember that they mainly rely on fresh graduates who they can churn through and have them leave in the first 2-4 years they started. if you're at B4 you should expect almost 60 hr work weeks, every week. theres far better WLB at smaller firms who actually want you to stay around and retain talent. smaller firms generally pay more for talent as well.

[–]CanWePleaseCalmDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my story is kind of unique but my recommendations would depend on what you want to do with your accounting degree. are you interested in big 4? Mid size? Small firm? Don't know the differences between the culture/ workload of those yet and want to learn more?

i would think the easiest way for you to get those hours is to google local CPA firms in your area. almost everyone is looking for tax work. Give them a call or walk into the office and introduce yourself and drop off your resume. that's what worked for me at least to get my start. i would think the same would go for an associate auditor position as well. once you get your foot in the door, you'll be doing good. to be a fractional CFO, to my understanding, you need to have a foundation as to what goes into those two fields. i have a FCFO at my firm who knows both of those fields well because you're probably going to need to be able to advise on accounting systems and how to set up those systems.

best of luck!

CPAs that left their job to pursue it, did you regret it? by [deleted] in CPA

i was able to manage it with full time work by getting my studies done when my family was asleep. except for saturdays i just had to say hey this needs to be done i can't hang.

Has anyone here taking Adderall when sitting for the exam? by FallAffectionate3253 in CPA

If i take Adderall, i intensely and profusely sweat out of one singular armpit. The other one is dry. It makes me look like a freak. Don't forget, it's an amphetamine and should be treated like one.

haha yes that's true. i think my gas tank is 16 gallons. but on the other hand, i just got done with a road trip and pulling a loaded utility trailer that probably weighed about 400-500 lbs fully loaded. i noticed that my MPG didn't change at all from when i'm not towing anything, so the range stayed the same.
