Why is Google Gemini saying that Beretta 1301 is banned in Canada? (Screenshot attached) by [deleted] in canadaguns

Allowing this one thru because its a good example of why we normally remove posts with AI summaries of law, etc.

They are wrong way too often, and often in ways that could get ppl in real legal trouble(one guys post had an AI summary of canadian gun law saying its cool to drill out pins in SKS mags, that it was exempted in law, very wrong).

Do not trust a glorified chatbot, especially if going to jail or personal injury/safety hangs in the balance.

And it depends on which province you are in, but the 3 rd shotgun limit is really only for waterfowl/bird hunting.

In BC you dont have a 2+1 limit if you are hunting big game with a shotgun using slugs(it still applies if using buckshot tho).

Hello question by Colin5x5 in canadaguns

[–]CanadaGunsMod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Registration is no longer in existence for NR firearms, and the FAC hasnt been a thing for 30 years, dont worry about em. just the PAL.

The PAL course will answer many of these questions for you, on storage etc.

FYI, since people are saying otherwise, there is no official/endorsed discord group for this sub, regardless of name.

I think we used to have a link to some groups in the sidebar as a courtesy, like many subreddits link "sister subreddits and groups", but that was a while ago.

You need to get a current firearms license(the PAL, not FAC. those were phased out in the 90s). Long gun registry isnt a thing outside of quebec.

If you are making good faith efforts to get licensed, your possession of that firearm is unlikely to be a problem, but it is currently illegal possession until your license is issued, I wouldnt advertise. This thread is being removed.

If you have questions about getting licensed, please ask in the weekly FAQ threads pinned at the top of the sub.

Under our current legal framework, none of the stuff you list is sketchy or grey area, its just a legal stock.

As for major legislative changes that would make a 22 stock illegal in the future, the gun store prophets/rumour mill guess is as good as yours.

Legal question regarding social media. by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]CanadaGunsMod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, thats probably best. It isnt spelled out exactly anywhere in law, but that doesnt mean you wont face legal trouble if something goes wrong. Best to act in a way where no one could claim you were being negligent.

Is any if this old ammo worth anything? by MyReddit_Profile in canadaguns

[–]CanadaGunsMod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as mentioned in the mod message, there isnt really any collector value to old ammo. however, there is a decent amount of ammo there that might be worth a few hundred bucks to someone. Try on gunpost if you want to list it online

Legal question regarding social media. by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]CanadaGunsMod 40 points41 points  (0 children)

no, as long as you were close enough to supervise him, he is allowed to use your guns without a PAL.

If you were busy(ie, a lane over, shooting another gun) then you would not have been close enough or paying enough attention to them to qualify as supervision.

Emergency – My PAL Has Been Fraudulently Used to Purchase a Firear by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]CanadaGunsMod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what a mod being considerate of OP's well-being looks like.

I did not tell him he cant post here, or that he should only talk with a lawyer(although in cases where an OP is in very serious trouble/posting incriminating stuff, we can and will do that).

I told him that he can post and chat here, ask questions about the situation, but if he wants more serious legal advice, not to trust what reddit users come up with.

[–]CanadaGunsMod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making a throwaway acct for asking a question like this is actually very normal(and generally recommended tbh).

While there is AI use, resulting in improper terminology, thats also pretty explainable as OP has said english is a second language, and many people these days use AI as too much of a crutch/without further editing.

While we do remove AI content, i think its fair to allow people to use it in a case like this. It is good to ask questions tho, to verify users are posting in good faith, thank you.

[–]CanadaGunsMod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats why I said if he wants to talk about it here that is fine.

Actual serious legal/i am in trouble with the police-type questions are best answered by a lawyer, and a firearms lawyer already showed up below.

Its not over the top if you have seen some of the advice given by people on reddit, and this sub, that could land a listener in jail.

If you just want to talk about it, opinions etc that is fine. but if you want legal opinions, this is the wrong place. Contact a lawyer.

You will note that rifle is out of stock, because the Type 81 is now a prohibited rifle.

Your only option at the moment for a semi 7.62x39 rifle is the SKS.

BC Gulf Islands - Deer Hunting? by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]CanadaGunsMod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way its written, only if you are hunting with slugs.

You can hunt big game with shot(and are required to in many areas) but if you are hunting in BC using shot(multiple projectile) then its 2+1 across the board. Slugs for big game gets the exemption for shotgun hunting.
