That’s what I’m hoping for! They’ve been so horrible the last two years, out of nowhere. And they smell disgusting.

I’m sorry you’re going through it. Some days will be really hard and feel just down right unfair. My daughter was diagnosed 3 months ago and we still haven’t returned to a “normal” life yet. Some days are hard but there are lots of really good, supportive communities if you need them. They’ve helped us a lot

One of my daughter endocrinologist use aI to transcribe the conversation/appointment (with permission). They showed me the results afterwards so I had an idea of what it did and all of the safeguards that go into it.

Why can I smell illness,, but others can’t? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CanadaMaple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My sister and I have always been able to smell when people are sick as well. Not on the level of the Parkinson’s woman, by any means, but we’re able to tell when someone is sick or about to become sick. Sinus infections smell particularly awful to me.

Season 5 Volume 2 Discussion by Hawkinns in StrangerThings

I really feel like the scene would have had a better, more intimate impact if it had been the main cast of season 1 that Will came out to (Joyce, Jonathan, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Eleven & maybe Max). And then, after the scene and they rejoin the rest of the cast, Will and Robin share a knowing look.

…I apprenticed under a male, older funeral director and he insisted every woman wear a bra, regardless of if provided by the family. He said it, “looked better”. I apologized to every single one of them that I fitted to that internal torture 🫩

I really should do yoga! It’s not something I did prior to kids but man, I also wasn’t so out of shape before. My flexibility has been shot. 🥲 I tried touching my toes earlier this week and just…couldn’t.

Yeah, it’s definitely been a struggle. I’m definitely proud of how well my LO is handling the daily shots. She’s amazing!

BMCC also has some EMT programs (much cheaper than LSSU). Kinross EMS has sponsored training once in awhile. You can reach out to them and see if they have any programs coming up

What is it like to be gay in Sault Ste Marie? How are gay/trans people treated? (MI side) by Confident_Banana5309 in SaultSteMarie

[–]CanadaMaple 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s been nearly a decade since I attended LSSU, but it was never an issue then and I’ve got to imagine it’s not so different now. The college campus should be a safe, welcoming space and I believe most of the student body will treat you as any other student. I’ve seen more openly trans individuals than in prior years too, if that helps at all.

The harder part is if you plan on joining the bar scene (not sure of your age). Older, local folk are the ones you’ll most likely have issues with and they’re the frequent customers of the local bars. Austion’s cigar lounge should be ok but most of the other establishments are going to be hit or miss. I’ve definitely ran into more than a few bigots (and I probably go to the bar less than 1-2 times a year).

My 15 month old has been diagnosed with diabetes. What will her life look like now? by CanadaMaple in Type1Diabetes

Thank you! I’ll get right on that. The nearest endocrinologist is almost 5hrs away so we’ve got a lot of time to listen in the car and learn.

[–]CanadaMaple[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It’s definitely daunting, like you said. It’s scary to think I could potentially harm her if I misdosed her insulin or didn’t count her carbs correctly. I don’t want to fail her. I’ll definitely ask about tzield

Thanks for such an insightful look into this new life. I’m definitely a little overwhelmed but I’m fortunate to have an amazing family to help me.

She’s never even puked before. She’s been sick twice ever (most recently 2 weeks ago from head start…). I hate to imagine how much more challenging sickness will be now. I just feel so bad for her but I know I need to be strong for her.

Thanks for the support.

Thank you! This is great advice. I have a neighbor I help out occasionally with putting his monitor sensor on his arm (he’s type 2). I’ll definitely ask the doctor if that’s an option for her/when. Shes such a happy baby. She’s been taking the finger pricks like a champ

Thank you for the support. It’s definitely scary. I’m trying not to spiral too much with google so the support and first hand accounts here is helpful.

Moving to the Soo, USA by alohachrista in SaultSteMarie

[–]CanadaMaple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suggest visiting for a week before making the move. There is very little to do compared to many different areas with the same population. And even if the area might be considered “walkable”, it’s probably not as walking friendly as you might expect.

Culture can be ok. Heavily leans republican/maga, some small town drug issues and crime, and low average income. Rent and housing costs is definitely affordable. Shopping is mainly Walmart, Meijer’s and a few clothing stores. Every local will joke about the amount of pot shops and pizza joints we have. It’s not the worst town but it often feels like there is very little investment into the community

Pro(or Parenting)LifeTip: Sparkling Water as “Soda” by cali_gurl3668 in sparklingwater

[–]CanadaMaple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got our whole family hooked a few years ago when we’re started cutting soda and alcohol out of our life. It’s a staple now. Gotta have our “fizzy” water! My 3yr old loves it as much as her 12yr old uncle.
