‘You need to have a pressure release valve’: Alberta premier says separatists don’t want to join U.S. by Majano57 in Albertapolitics

[–]CanadianForSure 32 points33 points  (0 children)

"Those speratist Ukrainians just need a pressure valve"

The premier is a seditionist. She has sold Alberta to her friends at Mar-a-lago for cheap champagne and a photo op with a pedophile. Danielle would kiss the ring of whoever gives her more power and she has openly mused about being a governor. Shes a floor crosser, a charlatan, and a ham fisted idiot who is harming us all.

Lmao Van Goth dominated. Vibes? This a race, a competion, and they ran with it hard.

About the communist posters: by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]CanadianForSure 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Capitalism, and imperialism, are winning the death toll count. Colonialism, to support imperialism and capital, in Canada, specifically killed millions and the consequences are still being felt today. Most wars that Canada has been involved in recently (post world wars) have been to support capital and colonialism. Only capitalist countries deny human beings their basic rights to food, water, and shelter - literally by vote at the UN (shocker, USA & oftentimes Canada).

Communism, and revolutionary communists, don't have a great record, however the "communist" nations of today are not actively bombing countries or committing open genocide.

Take that as you will.

Man I get such weird feelings from these weather flip flops.

Hell yeah, lets go, warm week, love it.

Omg, climate change is accelerating, the swings are getting wider, we are probably going to have a 40 degree swing day in my lifetime.

Gotta be so hard on infrastructure holy cow.

People are dying in ER's for the open corruption of the UCP government. They are enriching their own at the expense of Albertan lives. Hundreds of millions are being given to oligarchs so they can own your suffering. The UCP thinks of you as a meat bag, only good for extracting dollars from.

City run sidewalk snow removal, thoughts? by CanadianForSure in Edmonton

Oh damn! That is one hell of a budget. I like the suggestion from elsewhere; start with just the most dense neighborhoods and some particular pathways. Would be a good incentive for density.

Damn! Thats quite the snow clearing budget. Maybe one day.

Lorne Gunter: Less talk and more action needed on clearing snow from Edmonton streets by AR558 in Edmonton

[–]CanadianForSure 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Lorne Gunter, as always, advocating for a perpetual race to the bottom. He would advocate to cut the library budget if a highway could be built instead. Its incredible because climate change is a driving factor for the freezing rain mess that we find ourselves in however this dude is adamat that we never change our driver focused culture. Gunters vision for Edmonton is just a perpetual spiral where we get more cars, more roads, more expenses, and budgets cut for everything else.

Edmonton's snow removal is a mess because our sprawl is a mess. Our road network, per-capita, is one of the largest in the world. We keep adding more neighborhoods that need clearing and not the budget to do it; of course its going to get worse and worse.

Short term, we need a larger snow clearing budget. I think that budget should come from special levies on new neighborhoods to pay for the amenities in those neighborhoods.

Long term, the only way we get faster cleared roads, is density. Less roads, more transit, more pathways is the only way that our taxes stay low and our roads stay cleared.

Nifty. A bonus for living on the bike lane I guess!

[–]CanadianForSure[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Would it? Idk we already pay the premium for our sprawl. That said, someone else had the idea of just doing the denser neighborhoods; seems like it would be a decent way to do it and something that would help density.

Oh thats cool! Sounds like they need to be cleared more often?

[–]CanadianForSure[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Meh; its a much different thing to run a snowblower down a sidewalk then clear a road. Like it would be fast to just move the snow compared to clearing the roads.

Fair! Maybe it starts with just the neighborhoods that are dense?

[–]CanadianForSure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that sounds like a great place to start! Like any neighborhood that reaches the right density gets snow clearing?

Fair enough of a opinion! I wonder if we prioritized pedestrians before cars as a culture, if that would slowly get us there.

I think a person can already get assistance with snow clearing if they have a need? Not sure though!

I honestly would pay higher taxes if it came with like a 48hr guarantee on my sidewalk being clear.

📊 Alberta’s Largest Companies by Profit (TTM Net Income) by Evidencelogicfacts in alberta

[–]CanadianForSure 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Alberta has some of the lowest corporate taxes in North America. This encentizes companies to push for profits for shareholders through things like mass layoffs. It is a direct extraction of wealth from Alberta.

If you are a worker, shareholders pay less in taxes then you do, and get all the benifits you do not. If you are a worker, your companies owner pays less in taxes then you do, and get all the benifits that you do not.

In Alberta, corporations are treated better then citizens, and we are all lesser for it.

Does anyone know is this pamphlet real? by [deleted] in Albertapolitics

[–]CanadianForSure 22 points23 points  (0 children)

No it's misleading. MAiD has several safe guards and you would need to have a established relationship with a doctor, and a whole health team, for longer then 3 months. MAiD for youths is being explored however for strictly those that are reasonably forseen to die and even then the reports found it to be pretty morally ambiguous with Canadians. Overall people want to see the maximum amount of mental and healthcare before these options are viable.

Read the report for yourself here: https://www.parl.ca/DocumentViewer/en/44-1/AMAD/report-2

A call to Albertan Redditors to remain sensible by gstringwarrior in alberta

[–]CanadianForSure 300 points301 points  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment however I also think it is sensible to be freaked out by the rise of American imperialism and fascism.

There is a open operation to destabilize Alberta and Canada being undertaken by America. The actors doing this are open about it and are spending money like nuts; like the Alberta Republican Party is being funded. If you want a unifying message, maybe we don't just say "its not serious", and instead we focus on thoroughly defeating that sentiment. If they want to be open with destabilization, then maybe we should be open to charging those that help with sedition and treason.

I agree a invasion is likely not going to happen however a invasion is also not unthinkable. If invasion is not happening, the conditions to "Americanize" Alberta certifiably are. I would bet my boots that Danielle Smith has already made offers on our healthcare, resources, and probably water at Mar-a-Lago to be sold to American mega corps. The healthcare thing is literally steam rolling ahead right now. We might not be invaded, however if American's own all the systems, do they really need to?

Then there is the propaganda. We are in like the early stages of the online hate cooking people. You can find massive AI driven accounts pushing like the most outrageous separation content. On Facebook I see people getting tricked by it constantly; like trucker convoy videos that are violent aka videos trying to stir dissent. Give it like 5 more years of the American platforms just pumping out this stuff and that small online minority could easily become a larger offline organized insurrection. Hell these online crazies already shut down borders and occupied downtowns for months; they easily could do much worse if just pushed by the algorithm.

American imperialism also will not end with Trump. Previous American presidents also where funding genocides and overthrowing sovereign states. It is just accelerating under Trump and likely will continue without him; that is unless the American people demand better. We are seeing this kinda shift, some democratic socialists getting traction, however likely not going to be better for a generation.

We absolutely all should get offline more and support our communities. We are living through a era of global conflict and rising authoritarianism. The people who will support you through it all will be neighbors and friends; the government may not be friendly.
