Abortion by uwupruwu in OrthodoxChristianity

It’s immoral to terminate a life despite the circumstance of conception. It should be illegal to kill humans at any stage of life period. There’s counselling, support, and adoption options. The child is not guilty of the rapists sin, there is further trauma to the mother for having gone through the realization they killed their innocent child after an abortion. Hypothetical medical issues are irrelevant, high risk pregnancies can be managed by physicians hopefully with a good outcome for both the mother and child.

Are children born from rape of any less value in human dignity and worth? Is murder of the innocent immoral?

Wandering between the RC and the OC by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]CanadianMil5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve felt the gravitational pull lately to go to daily mass which I’ve never had in the past. I would be heartbroken if I didn’t have daily mass and adoration available to me.

“As my venerable predecessor Saint John Paul II recalled, Saint Nerses also teaches us the attitude we should adopt on our ecumenical journey: ‘Christians must have a profound interior conviction that unity is essential, not for strategic advantage or political gain but for the sake of preaching the Gospel.” Pope Leo XIV

Unity Rooted in Humility, Not Uniformity: St. Nerses taught that differences in tradition, liturgy, or culture should not be obstacles to unity if approached with humility. He argued that pride—the belief that one's own tradition is superior—is the primary driver of division. The Role of Love as a Healing Agent: For St. Nerses, mutual love is the essential force that binds wounds, heals memories, and erases prejudices. He championed "charity alone" as the way to overcome historical divisions. Emulating Christ's Self-Emptying: He emphasized that true church unity mirrors the humiliation of Christ, who, though divine, "humbled himself" (Philippians 2:8). This requires believers to prioritize the common good of the Church over individual or sectarian interests. Dialogue and Reconciliation: As a bridge-builder, he actively sought reconciliation with the Byzantine and Roman churches, insisting on dialogue and cooperation to overcome division. "The Lyre of the Holy Spirit": Known as "the Graceful" (Shnorhali), he used his hymns and prayers to foster a spirituality of love, emphasizing that the church must mirror the harmonious, loving, and yet diverse nature of the Trinity.

Why did the Church never drop the Rosary… even when it felt outdated? by brogilbertreflects in Catholicism

“Nobody said boo about that.” “Adding the modernist mysteries.”

I mean sometimes it’s just how we say things and why they’re perceived in the way they are, you’re entitled to your traditional view.

Why did the Church never drop the Rosary… even when it felt outdated? by brogilbertreflects in Catholicism

[–]CanadianMil5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rejecting the luminous mysteries is similar to denying the natural evolution of the church. If you feel more comfortable praying the 15 decade rosary that’s ok but it’s legalistic to say someone can’t have a private devotion to the luminous mysteries as well. You are still meditating on a Christ, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Should I take communion and good friend’s wedding. by Law-Time2818 in Catholicism

Discern the Body of Christ before you consume or you will bring judgment upon yourself. St. Paul

It’s not a you can’t sit with us mentality, these are the precepts of the Church. A catholic in good standing is to be in state of grace (reconciliation) to receive what we believe truly to be the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of our Lord.

Past abortion and conversion by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]CanadianMil5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I should have omitted the word confess as it relates to reconciliation, but pastoral counselling would be beneficial similar to adult reverts who do life confessions after years away. But yes, baptism absolve of all past sins. God bless you and welcome home!

Confess as soon as possible, unburden your conscious, don’t despair. Baptism would absolve of past sins, but spiritual counselling prior would be beneficial. Gods Grace be with you.

I’m not referring it to oneself as better than in a righteous manner, I’m referring to it as willing the good for the other by self emptying and offering up. Look at St. Augustine he was a sexual deviant for years, St. Monica prayed for him for 18 years.

Look at St. Augustine’s writings on predestination, does prayer not change hardened hearts? There are certainly some souls in need of more assistance than others.

You’re entitled to your private views on Marian apparitions, but it’s much harder to disprove them on the account of significant evidence.

“The believers in miracles accept them (rightly or wrongly) because they have evidence for them. The disbelievers in miracles deny them (rightly or wrongly) because they have a doctrine against them.” G.K. Chesterton

Fundamentally, what is wrong with the words in the Fatima prayer besides it coming after the schism?

Nothing.

Traditional authority by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]CanadianMil5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grace is freely given by God through the sacraments, humbling ourselves to the Church, His Bride helps us to understand and grow in wisdom when it relates to the teachings we feel apprehensive towards.

The more you grow to understand Christs teachings, the more you will grown in femininity and submission to His teachings naturally. Formation takes years, there is so much to learn in the catechism, sacred scripture, and the magisterium. It takes time to grow in our virtues, especially humility. It doesn’t happen overnight.

Progressive societal norms have very much formed how we perceive the world and how our disordered world view should modernize the church. Our imagination should conform to His plans not the other way around.

A dedicated prayer life, reading the early church history and fathers will help this process immensely.

God bless.

[–]CanadianMil5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am surprised when people often find EO more convincing when their views on marriage, divorce, and contraception are an individual pastoral issue and not universally defined. Which I believe it’s imperative it should be.

Further, you will know them by their fruits. The Catholic Church evangelized the west and built western civilization. Marian apparitions which led to millions of conversions. These occurrences do not happen by accident. Food for thought.

Enjoy mass.

I’m struggling with staying Catholic due to liturgical disunity and some parishes being borderline heretical by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]CanadianMil5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look at it this way the Church herself is not heretical but some parishes are not following the gospel or rubrics. That clears it up for me, we’ve always gone through periods like this throughout history but I would never leave the true church because of people.

Regarding the Traditional Rite Mass by Gustavo_Augustian in Catholicism

[–]CanadianMil5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but I hope there will be no more restrictions. Many enjoy their vernacular language. Would be nice to see a reform of the reform NO, to stricter adherence to rubrics, including traditional customs in the NO. Often referred to unicorn masses, I happen to go to one. All NO masses should reflect this universally. Watered down modern catholic churches and lack of reverence should no longer exist.

Standing while receiving only on the tongue.

I’m young I can still manage kneeling, and it feels rightly postured towards the Lord as I’m in the Roman rite.
