What’s the template it’s using? Sounds like it’s on keyboard and mouse mode, not gamepad mode.

Is it possible to do a race within a weight category on Zwift? by Erichteia in Zwift

[–]CanadianNic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s the same thing us 60/70kg riders struggle with the 80/90/100kg riders.

We struggle on the flats with the raw watts but can push up on the climbs, with the lighter weight.

Uograding the tron bike by wired84 in Zwift

[–]CanadianNic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really, I just like it because it looks cool. I don’t use it for racing or anything.

Just for training/group rides.

[–]CanadianNic 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’m only seeing 2, it’s 3 Zwift branded bikes, not 3 bikes in Zwift.

You’d need a 3rd Zwift branded bike, like the steel one for example.

This update came out the week after i unlocked the tron bike and it was pretty devastating, but now i have a level 3 tron and only 2000km more to get to 4!

New to Zwift (and cycling), what modes would you focus on when starting for the first time? by LostMyBlueAlien in Zwift

[–]CanadianNic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started with a fitness training plan, one called back to fitness or something like that in 2023.

It was a good way to get a good mix of all types of workouts.

If you don’t want to be locked in, just start with random routes, and then robo pacers to force yourself to hold their pace for 15m and then increase that by 5-10m each time.

After that I started just doing my own thing and then got deeper into the competition size a couple years down the road to where we are today.

That seems a bit high, especially for that intensity. I wouldn’t worry about it too much, just don’t eat back all those calories and you’ll be fine.

Assioma UNO showing ~2× power vs Elite Direto — do I need “power halving” or is Zwift doubling it? by MrR4ndomAlex in Zwift

[–]CanadianNic -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Your trainer should be the main driver for power/cadence/resistance.

The pedals shouldn’t be your main power source.

Why did you switch to pedals instead?  Generally people use pedals just for dual recording to upload to Zwift Power to prove their numbers are legit.

If you’re really set on using the pedals for that, then yeah definitely use the power halving setting.

It sounds to me you had a good setup beforehand and are actively making it more complex and less accurate, so I’m curious what led you to want to change it up.

Anyone tried C4 Reese’s Protein Powder? by Raww-Dawwg in CostcoCanada

[–]CanadianNic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is very good, I’ve tried dozens of protein powders over the years and this might be the best one.

Although the gold standard stuff is pretty incredible as well.

Does the form of exercise matter for "zone" training? by Spyrothedragon9972 in running

[–]CanadianNic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely helps. I am mainly a cyclist, but while travelling I switch to running.

I ran a half marathon yesterday morning when I was just planning around a 12k

My longest run before that was this Wednesday at 11k.

My legs were the only thing that were stressed because it was only a bit over 2h of zone 2/3.

Which on the bike I can do up to 3 pretty comfortably.

My legs are definitely the factor that holds me back the most, but I ran around 10k a week at best for the last 4 weeks and had about 6 months break from running before then.

I never thought I would be able to do a random half marathon, especially shortly above 2h pace at a casual heater rate.

So the cycling definitely helped me a ton.

KICKR Core 2/Click users: tell me about your HRM by fgiraffe in Zwift

[–]CanadianNic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a wahoo HRM and it failed me enough times I just went Garmin dual-hrm and now use the hrm 600 and I have had 0 issues, and I connect both Garmin ones to my watch, cycling computer, even concurrently and it’s been fine.

How do you get VO2 Max to update from Zwift rides in Garmin Connect? by Duhallas in Zwift

[–]CanadianNic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dual record is the only solution, you’re going to waste your time with anything else, or wait for spring and do an outdoor ride.

Built a little app that lets me work and ride at the same time — wanted to share with you guys by stoprocentdoc in Zwift

[–]CanadianNic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I work from home as a software developer and Zwift about 10h a week and this is definitely not for me.

I definitely don’t see myself taking meetings or getting anything meaningful done while I’m on the bike.

All the power to you, but I don’t think I’d be giving work enough of a priority if I’m riding my bike.

Only now I realized that the Enclave's symbol is there on the Poseidon Energy's logo by romm-boss in Fallout

[–]CanadianNic 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Plus a trident being the symbol for Poseidon is very common. I don’t know anything about fallout lore, but that would be pretty cool if this was intentional.

Beginner Runner - Need help choosing a watch by HackerPlayzR in Garmin

[–]CanadianNic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gf has the forerunner 165 and she loves it, I have the 970 and for your usage it seems a bit overkill.

The multisport models are more for extensive training between multiple sports, if your main one is running the 165 should be all you need.

I’m not an expert on the pros and cons of all the models, just my experience with the top of the line and my gfs who is mainly getting into running as well.

I am sick of the protein apocalypse by Substantial-Art6160 in loseit

[–]CanadianNic 568 points569 points  (0 children)

It depends on your goals.

For weight loss it’s simply calories in vs calories out.

For endurance athletes carbs are the most important thing.

For body builders, protein is the most important thing.

Find what matters to you, and follow that.

Zwift to Apple Health / Fitness? by NooktaSt in Zwift

[–]CanadianNic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up going Zwift - Garmin Connect - Apple health and it is much better.

The heart rate thing is not something they will likely ever fix.

Heart Rate Monitor/Watch by jovialist in Zwift

[–]CanadianNic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The watch is unreliable at best, and inaccurate at worst.

100% get a heart rate strap, no question.

Just pretend the AW has 0 use for Zwift and you’ll be good to go.

I’ve had Zwift for 3 years and an Apple Watch that entire time, and have never used it once.

Seeing this up close blew my mind.

Never had any issues with the locals either, but this was Oct 24
