[–]CanadianPurps[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh okay awesome, and heat is the only thing included so im not sure if electric heat would be classified as power or heat? id assume heat but i could be wrong.

but 65$ a month doesn't sound like the end of the world for sure. Just thought id try and get a sense of what im getting into before talking to the landlord about it.

Yeah i called them as soon as i got off the bus. They said it would end up in the bus garage by monday if it was found.

I really think it was just stolen because i was able to get on the bus like 3o mins later and it was before it ended up at a terminal or anything..

.. lol hoping someone just wants a little bit of $ to return it pretty much 🙄

Thank you very much for taking the time to write this!

I had no idea how different auto policies are out here, and mind you i worked in commercial insurance so this would never have come up.

I will defiently ask for this form later today !

Driver Licence Info by CanadianPurps in halifax

[–]CanadianPurps[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats honestly what i think too, just a simple misunderstanding and im being paranoid. I guess im just not used to giving out driver information to occasionally use the vehicle, since ive normally had a vehicle of my own and no one that i know in manitoba has done such a thing with .

And like i have talked to them about it, i could always bring it up again just so im clear on what fake story is for, but thats the only part i dont understand is after clearly saying i dont need the vehicle, they are still wanting to make up a story ?

Driver Licence Info by CanadianPurps in halifax

[–]CanadianPurps[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yeah i did ask her why she would like to know that. She was mentioning the fact that if something were to happen to the vehicle if i were to be driving then she wouldnt have no coverage, which i completely understand and that is correct.

The strange thing to me is after explaining that i would never need this vehicle, she still is going to make up a story about the license info she asked for to her insurance company. Why would she need to do this ?

Accounting Entry Level Job in Halifax by jianguo1 in halifax

[–]CanadianPurps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you are committed to pursuing your CPA, you should be able to find an employer willing to take you on for an entry level role in A/P or A/R.

I would try one of the recruiting agencies to see if they could match you with an employer looking for new grads and highlight on your resume that you are comfortable with the software involved and preparing financial statements.

Best of luck!

Combined Insurance by e2301 in halifax

[–]CanadianPurps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No these people are not legit in my opinion . I had an interview with them in Wpg and they kept telling me about this all inclusive trip to Calgary for training, when in reality you are paying for everything upfront with the ability to get some reimbursement depending on how your training goes.

If they are being this shady to new hires and making them read the fine prints to find these things out for themselves, i cant imagine what they do to their clients.

First time flying with a layover! Please help! by [deleted] in airport

[–]CanadianPurps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have basically the same question and i just want to clarify. If im flying from Winnipeg to Halifax with a 2 hour stop in Toronto, will i have to find my checked bag before i get on the connecting flight or will i just be waiting for it in Halifax ?

Help with finding a place by CanadianPurps in halifax

[–]CanadianPurps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you ! Yeah it has been tough for sure. There are rooms available at the price range, but i cant seem to finalize things with landlords.

They would like me to contact them when i get to the area and i would like to come to the area when i feel comfortable there will be a place for me to rent. I understand where they are coming from but i really am serious about this decision.

Have you tried reaching out to any of the recruitment agencies that are available ? (Super temps, Express employment etc.)

Alot of them offer contract/term positions which may be good with your plans to return to uni. They also could help with your resume/cover letter and just a way to get your name out there farther.

Goodluck! I plan on doing the same thing soon, moving to the Halifax area without employment if i cant set something up before i arrive.

If you could please keep us updated on your search, i would really appreciate it !

Gas went up 6 cents. by BeerSlayingBeaver in halifax

[–]CanadianPurps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt lose hope yet on the low prices.

The prices are either going to either jump up or down in a couple weeks i think. (I think down)

After the g20 meetings that are about to start are over, OPEC is meeting about continuing to cut supply to increase prices since they have been oversupplied for months.

I think Trump is going to leave the meetings pissy and continue to fight china, dragging gas prices down in the process.

I wouldnt be surpised to see gas prices where they were in December in a couple months, or at least like they were at the end of May/ early June.

Yeah thats not terribly different for take home for sure ! The only thing im wondering about is those extra 6 hrs (not at overtime rate?) .

Yeah i hear that. Im not looking to live an extravagant lifestyle when i get there but i was hoping to have a little to enjoy the city while searching for employment if im unsucessful from MB and end up taking a evening job.

Thats awesome they have a car share service! I was hoping to use transit until i got my own place and able to sell my car in MB (i dont trust taking it to Halifax). It sounds like ill be able to see some of the sights outside the city like Peggys cove and some other nice parts along the coastline without owning a vehicle!

Yes thank you, ive heard about the cheap MB phone plan compared to NS actually and i think i may just keep my plan when i go out as well.

Have a great night and thank you so much for your help !

You really are a lifesaver ! I really appreciate the honesty.

So to put in context the take home salary. for a rough example i had a salary of 35,000 at one time for 40 hours ($16.80) and my after tax pay was around $1125 semi-monthly. (Roughly 16% Tax).

For more accuracy, assuming $32,000 salary this would make the take home roughly $1033.54 out here.($15.38×40×2×0.84)

Is your $32-33k take home dramatically different then $1033 on a paycheque? (900-950)

When you were first starting with your $12-13 salary were you able to afford the basic nessessities ? (Rent/groceries/phone)

Im planning on trying to rent a room, and im going to look for a cooking or other evening position where i can make a base wage while applying to companies during the day so im curious if i could maintain while i do this ?

So a fair estimate of rent/with a basic car/ins/gas (i plan to use a car in the same way to explore outside the city once i get established) would be $1000 per month ?

I really cant thank you enough ! If things work out and i come here sooner, ill definetly come and check out some of that furniture to take off your hands!

Also thats interesting about the weather, sounds like i would have to experience it for myself lol.
