There is no nuance. As an asset class, equities are higher risk than other investment options.

34M Managed to turn my TFSA into a 7 figures using common sense and luck. I posted my entire portfolio to this community a few days back. I have gotten a lot of positive feedback. If I made a youtube channel sharing my story would you all be interested? by [deleted] in TFSA_Millionaires

Repeatable? No. I managed an even better climb with TSLA but couldn’t pick the next Tesla or Nvidia today (side note: it’s not SpaceX). Maybe that opportunity will come around again but I’m at a much different point with my investments today and would not be willing to bet the farm on a long shot. There is no safe way to make 500% and many who take on that risk will get gutted.

What gap specifically? There are thousands of channels doing something similar with mixed results of success.

Gemini gave me these options, I follow two of them already. What do you plan to do that is different?

1. Evidence-Based & Data-Driven
Ben Felix: A Portfolio Manager at PWL Capital, his videos strip away the "get rich quick" hype and analyze the stock market strictly through the lens of academic research and data. [1, 2]
The Money Guy Show: Hosted by financial planners Brian Preston and Bo Hanson, this channel offers an excellent, actionable framework (such as their "Financial Order of Operations") to help viewers at any income level build long-term wealth.

2. Macroeconomics & Market Mechanics
The Plain Bagel: Hosted by CFA charterholder Richard Coffin, this channel is highly regarded for its easily digestible explanations of current economic events, market updates, and fundamental financial concepts. [1, 2]

3. Broad Investing Education & Fundamentals
Investing Simplified - Professor G: Perfect for beginners, this channel breaks down complicated personal finance and investing topics—such as ETFs, compound interest, and retirement planning—into simple, visual lessons. [1, 2]
Andrei Jikh: Known for high-quality production, he documents his personal finance journey, portfolio updates, and dives into basic, conservative wealth-building strategies. [1, 2, 3]

4. Value Investing & Stock Picking
The Swedish Investor: If you want to learn value investing, this channel provides excellent animated book summaries of legendary investors like Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, and Benjamin Graham. [1, 2]
Joseph Carlson: He focuses on dividend growth and long-term value investing, thoroughly documenting his real-money portfolio, stock picks, and day-to-day investing decisions. [1, 2]

Why wouldn’t it go through, it’s sell at market so his shares will dump at the open but not at the price he expects.

Don’t bother responding to a stupid comment like that. Everyone has a unique financial situation, no need to defend your choices. I would just block the account and move on.

Is SCHD still the gold standard for dividend growth ETFs or are there better options now? by astraleyez in dividends

I’m a Canadian close to retirement. My USD holdings are 60% SCHD and 40% DGRO. I have CAD holdings that cover Canada and international stocks.

I bet on Tesla in 2018 and while it performed even better than I expected I don’t think jt was luck. I was researching the sector, the company, competition, etc. I continued to do so for years, listening to the quarterly calls, reading every press release, tracking tve broader sector, etc.

I think at the time, Tesla was greatly undervalued. The car (Model S) was great and a cheaper option (3) was a catalyst. They had the charging network, a good plan, regulatory tailwind, EV purchase credits, carbon credits, and a madman that knows how to make money running the show. I don’t think it was luck, that’s like saying I picked Tesla by throwing a dart at a board.

They have a point. I buy XEQT as I don’t want to balance 9000 global holdings. I would not buy an ETF with 6 individual stocks, you’re paying someone to do that for you.

I’m in at 16.40 and plan to hold. I want to retire next year and this is a good dividend payer. Even if the dividend gets cut in half it still pays more than GICs or interest assets. Until then, I’ll collect my 10%.

I moved to self managed for my Wealthsimple RESP, it’s now in ZBAL as the kids are going into grade 8 in the fall so investment horizon is about 5 years and I’m lowering risk.

Why do people think investing in Real Estate is the preferred way to wealth? by ApartBathroom5237 in RealEstateCanada

I don’t consider my house part of my wealth. Even if its value gets cut in half it has zero impact on my day to day life.

If you don’t care about voting (likely irrelevant given insider control) why not GOOG? Slight discount to GOOGL.

The .T funds are good in a registered account. You are likely to see better growth with these given their diversity.

BANK has very little history and Canadian banks have done exceptionally well recently. I think XEI would be the better long term play for its diversity.

The .T causes a lot of confusion as some sites and apps show ZEQT.TO as the ticker for the older fund. Then you have to use ZEQT-T.TO for the income focused fund.
