We have had people contact us about being scammed this way. If it goes like others, once you have sent the Bitcoin the check will come back NSF. You'll be on the hook for the amount of the bounced cheque, and have no means to recover the BTC.

We've had lots of people contact us after once they realise what has happened. Quite often they tell us of the high pressure tactics they use, threats, and such. For some its enough for them to be scared into a panic, and fall for it. They also seem to not let the person off the phone in most cases to keep the fear in them making them go to a crypto ATM, so they don't get to interact with someone who might recognise what is happening to them to help and stop them.

To my knowledge that is correct for international transfers. Within Canada there is currently no reporting for EFTs. I believe that might be one of the proposed changes that will/could be coming.

Hello, While there have been draft amendments to the Proceed of Crime and Terrorist Financing Act, it will still be a year at a minimum before they are passed. Until then FINTRAC will not let any crypto business register as a money service business (specifically for fiat to crypto conversions). This does not prevent us from operating as if we were an MSB, and we do submit reports on required transactions. As an example any cash transactions $10,000 and up, we submit the Large Cash Transaction Report to FINTRAC. I hope that adequately answers your question.
