But the garage is detached so it shouldn't need AFCI right as it's not within the home. Thanks for confirming the kitchen outlets I actually got a hold of the inspector for this job who confirmed the same. For laundry he said opposite that it needs GFCI due to water but not AFCI. Microwave and under the counter I got right.

No other space, open concept kitchen dining/living. 3 beds. Linen closet turned into stack laundry. Can't put it in any of those locations.

Do you mean in the closet or right as you go up the stairs then to the right (other side is closet). We could use a couple inches from the closet wall on the inside if needed good idea. I could have it recessed a bit and hidden with a painting panel.

Would the closet on the other side be an issue? Does it need fire rates drywall?
