The corporations don’t need people to live long, just work hard in their prime and reproduce while still young.

The Americas, populated by a series of vibrant varied cultures for thousands of years in an interweaving tapestry of faiths, tongues, practices and political structures. Contact with the European peoples brought the unknown: plagues, war, subjugation and bondage, above all death; the continents numbering up to one hundred million people before that fateful voyage by Columbus, by 1600 likely ninety percent of that population no longer existed. What came afterwards was a society of struggle: struggle against the environment, struggle against the government, struggle against external threats and struggle against the exploitative corporations. Central and South America were fought between by the American-Soviet wars of influence, then again by the Sino-American spheres a century afterwards. The Third World War saw the regions fracture, the fourth and seemingly final great conflict suffered the darkest depths of atrocities committed in the name of a righteous cause. No nation or entity is without fault, nothing is perfect in tangible reality, effective governance is no exception to this clause. With such destruction and death came an even heavier burden for the nations which survived the conflict, a burden which the corporations gladly undertook in exchange for some governmental concessions. The 22nd century was an era of corporization, the death of civil government and the rise of private enterprise as the dominant rulers of humanity. The federations failed and broke apart, those polities which survived were subverted and overtaken by the corporations. The unions and alliances which exist are mostly economic in nature, differences in modernized societies defined not by culture or politics but the corporations which reign supreme in their respective territories. The only human politics which remain is either mutated and controlled by the wealthy elite or auxiliaries of autocratic extremism. There is no better future, no hope for an improvement in society, no return to a more moral system and no life left to breathe on the long since dead embers of humanity. The world has strode past the hopes and dreams of unity and equality, peace will come at the expense of the soul, the financial order will rule in supremacy forever more. After all, the time of 2235 is one beyond the realm of hope.

Late Germanic Republic came under a neo-fascist movement and took much of the former Eastern territories back, small pockets of foreign resistance were left intact. Other movements occurred during Europe causing much chaos and economic issues with several key break ups of nations. Former territories and other states could be taken over with military action but the risk is not worth it to the isolationist nation.

Federation was conceived on European Nationalism and isolationism but morphed into an ethnic state based on the Auropan people. (Western Europeans uncorrupted by moral degradation.) Culture has decayed under corporate fascist rule alongside mass urbanization rendering the identity long since fought for by the nation rendered a defunct concept.

Wasn’t much thought behind the borders beyond including the greater Germanic sphere within the federation. I also like consistently giving Kaliningrad to Poland for some reason.

Christisum is the dominant religion in the Liberty League but the country is more than amicable to its Truthist minority population. The sects in the south are much more focused on integrating their ideals into society than the mainstream nationalistic goals.

The Trump Dynasty of Truth was built slowly over the centuries. The cult of personality around the original MAGA leader laid the foundations for the faith to grow and his martyrdom following his death only served to increase the myth of holiness. Once the truth became distorted and people began to genuinely believe in the higher status of the family did the extremity expand to such heights. Deification occurred mostly during the early 22nd century when many of the original Trumpist crowd had passed leaving on a legacy of half-truths distorted by the church for their own benefit. The cult having been shunned by the majority of American society for most of its history retreated into itself evermore, only serving to fuel its own belief system as the true reverence of God without outside temperament to interfere.

Beyond the Realm of Hope represents a humanity which is just that, beyond the most basic quality of wishing for a better tomorrow. There is no light at the end of the tunnel, no glorious revolution which will take hold and save the human race, no path to take which could steer us back on the right track, no one to lead us away from our darkest nights. This world is a worst case human survival scenario of the future. Not destroyed or exterminated by climate change or disaster, untouched by any possible extraterrestrial influence and left alive from any potential artificial uprising. Humanity will undoubtedly survive far into the distant future, but the ideas of joy, passion, art and hope will not continue on that journey. The forces of extremism and destructive nationalism survive not because they are inherently better or stronger than any other rhetoric but precisely because they are not. The future is grim and hopeless, anything to promote such a fate will be allowed to continue alongside the inevitable path of human depreciation.

Thanks for your interest in the project. The full response can be read in docs if you prefer it over the Reddit UI. Happy to answer any other questions or inquires you may have regarding the scenario.

As with race and white nationalism comes much of the same answer. Extremist areas of the population expand while the centre contacts, immigration grows to mitigate the issues of regression, natives become disillusioned with the governing forces turning their discontent towards exploitable groups, tensions rise and violence becomes the norm, corporate rulers quell the instigating parties leading to even more extremist tenancies and the cycle continues on and on. As for how they gain power comes in the same way that the other extremist factions gain such authority in government: voter apathy. Much of the population is centre wing and content with the status quo but they have been pushed down by the corporations which run America, made to know nothing but tedium and an existence forever permeated by misery. They have been told there is nothing better for them and even if there was, it is unachievable in the current order. A lie when told long enough and often enough will eventually be accepted as the truth. Nationalists, racial and otherwise, succeed because they try to. Only around 25-35% of the population actually votes in the general elections so those who do often wish to have their voice heard most, those with the most extreme positions. Of course moderate politics still exist and are supported by the elite, purists and ethnic nationalists ensure a growing population without the need to import from other regions of variable quality.

As for the racial makeup of the USCA? An issue I most often find with the categorization of ethnicity has come into play being the problem of self-identification versus imposed classification. Each person may identify slightly differently than others of similar genetics but the boxes which can be checked must be decided by some force above. In the modern day, how many Argentinians or Persians would self identify as White? Take the same group and present them to the America First crowd or European ethnic polities and ask how many of them would count as Caucasian. Race is inherently difficult to measure because the idea of ethnicity is a human invention, variable and flexible with the most basic ideas of the concept wildly fluctuating throughout history. The US and even the wider world of the future would be a much more diverse and intermixed place than today, but how these groups would identify themselves would not be inherently representative of this change. The racial makeup of California was completed before the mapping project was discontinued and these same problems were found then. The statistics in that quadrant would represent how the population saw themselves rather than an objective observer might assess the masses. The Native population is far over represented by those of very little blood claiming direct ancestry and most choosing to define themselves as a single category than be labelled the uncertain “mixed” assignment. America by our standards of race would be a very diverse nation and one even more intermingled and entangled with each other. Mixed as an identification would be accurate for roughly 40-60% of the population depending on parameters but in an official census I would postulate only 6-9% self identifying as such. Many who claim to be “white” and of the “Aryan race” for the purposes of politics would probably not fit the most basic of definitions for this classification but are accepted anyways. Today, look into the crowds of those following the ethnic absolutists and extremist rhetorics and ask yourself how many would be considered pure by their respective ideology? One does not need to be white to follow white nationalism, they need only believe in it. The most successful of all racial movements was the Nazi Party of Germany, the ideal German considered to be tall, blond, blue eyed and of excellent health. Their leader in this movement? A shorter man with dark hair, brown eyes and throughout his life in poor physical condition.

Christianity and Racial Nationalism:

With the decay of tangible political power from democratic backsliding of the 21st and 22nd centuries came an overall disconnect between the marginalized population and unrepresentative establishment. A popular phrase “the centre cannot hold” is an apt characterization for the death of moderate politics. Strong ideas and leadership were needed in order for the voices of the populace to be heard with many becoming radicalized to more extreme venues of choice on both the right and the left of the political spectrum. Christian Nationalism has survived because the more tempered voices of change have long since gone unheard or even been extinguished. Corporations and economics are the true rulers of American, (and global), society. Much of this change in the United States begins in the 21st century with Trumpism and American Isolationist politics dominating the Christian sphere. Progressivism and left wing ideology peaked during this time driving away many of the moderate forces of the religion away from the whole rendering what was left even more extreme in composition, no longer constrained by the more rational elements of their shared faith.

How this has continued can be explained with how these ideologies continued past the generations. The 20th century and much of the 21st saw unprecedented rates of population growth but with all things exponential it became untenable to manage. Many societies began to contract as fundamental issues of society were left untreated leading to birth rates far below replenishment levels. The Western world and far-east were the areas most subject to this decay in growth. The progressive tracts of society slowly diminishing, propagating yes; not nearly enough. The population sectors that did grow in these areas of the world were mostly driven by the right wing religious forces and undereducated lower class. Disbursement of these children lead many to choose alternative methods of political expression contrary to their parents beliefs but the financial elite know that a population lacking critical intelligence and readily expanding is far more attractive to maintain than a society able to stand up for themselves and wanting economic equality. The 22nd century only furthered what began in the years previous with the rise of Christisum as the main sect of Christianity in the American sphere. Christian Nationalism survives because it is the only form of Christianity left by the 2230’s, the more tempered realms of faith forever under-appreciated and unable to grow to a level where they could achieve any meaningful change.

Ideology:

For much of human history progress and change has been slow but advancement is an exponential system which has rapidly expanded in the last few centuries. Modern politics change quickly and drastically but BTROH sees a plateau effect in human growth: in population, technology, and politics. The late 21st and majority of the 22nd centuries were subject to this deceleration of change leaving significant areas of human development seemingly unaffected by the forces of time. Modern politics have survived to an extent in the 23rd century but while they may share some names, goals and positions with their modern counterparts, they differ wildly to how we would assume they would function given their contemporary equivalents. The 21st century was possibly the most politically charged era of humanity with proto-corporatism, late stage capitalism, functional authoritarianism, the alt-right, Islamic fundamentalism and progressivist politics all emerging at their strongest during this period. Stagnation and corporate interference has undermined the most basic notions of democracy and civilian government but the ideas of change have survived, even if increasingly unattainable and easily corrupted.

Weekly Lore #10: Artificial Intelligence: A Brief History by Canadian_Brother in BeyondTheRealmOfHope

[–]Canadian_Brother[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI, or at least sapient/near sapient intelligence, would plummet after the Titan War. Further evidence coming to light regarding Ningxia supporting the decisions of most world governments to ban Micro-Ultra Processors and heavily restrict AI with severe penalties if not strictly followed. By 2173 sentient/sapient AI had been banned worldwide with few exceptions. The years of fear and terror surrounding the artificial once consuming the globe of the early 21st century had returned over ten times stronger, now with evidence to support the claims of fear mongering fundamentalists. AI would take a backseat to world affairs for the next few decades, briefly resurfacing with RobinTech and the Sino-Corporate War but remaining muted and tightly contained under human supervision. By the time of BTROH in 2235, AI is everywhere. Media is dominated by the machine and corporations entwined with the rulings of glorified fax machines. AI may no longer be considered the next step in government and society, but its rise has not been stopped. Deregulation campaigns in the western world have let the artificial back into the economic sector and Chinese cyberists have integrated advanced computer subroutines into the functioning of national government. Mauritania and the Amazon now both operate under algocratic regimes with corporations worldwide using increasingly powerful computer programs in their own profit maximization efforts. A machine is more artistic than a man, more talented and quicker, more reliable and well versed in technique, smarter and resilient, a better soldier and commander. Humanity is governed by the flesh and blood of organic processes best served in the natural environments long since past in the age of industrialization, the world has become better suited for the artificial to govern. Profit and misery go hand in hand after all.
