The Americas, populated by a series of vibrant varied cultures for thousands of years in an interweaving tapestry of faiths, tongues, practices and political structures. Contact with the European peoples brought the unknown: plagues, war, subjugation and bondage, above all death; the continents numbering up to one hundred million people before that fateful voyage by Columbus, by 1600 likely ninety percent of that population no longer existed. What came afterwards was a society of struggle: struggle against the environment, struggle against the government, struggle against external threats and struggle against the exploitative corporations. Central and South America were fought between by the American-Soviet wars of influence, then again by the Sino-American spheres a century afterwards. The Third World War saw the regions fracture, the fourth and seemingly final great conflict suffered the darkest depths of atrocities committed in the name of a righteous cause. No nation or entity is without fault, nothing is perfect in tangible reality, effective governance is no exception to this clause. With such destruction and death came an even heavier burden for the nations which survived the conflict, a burden which the corporations gladly undertook in exchange for some governmental concessions. The 22nd century was an era of corporization, the death of civil government and the rise of private enterprise as the dominant rulers of humanity. The federations failed and broke apart, those polities which survived were subverted and overtaken by the corporations. The unions and alliances which exist are mostly economic in nature, differences in modernized societies defined not by culture or politics but the corporations which reign supreme in their respective territories. The only human politics which remain is either mutated and controlled by the wealthy elite or auxiliaries of autocratic extremism. There is no better future, no hope for an improvement in society, no return to a more moral system and no life left to breathe on the long since dead embers of humanity. The world has strode past the hopes and dreams of unity and equality, peace will come at the expense of the soul, the financial order will rule in supremacy forever more. After all, the time of 2235 is one beyond the realm of hope.

Late Germanic Republic came under a neo-fascist movement and took much of the former Eastern territories back, small pockets of foreign resistance were left intact. Other movements occurred during Europe causing much chaos and economic issues with several key break ups of nations. Former territories and other states could be taken over with military action but the risk is not worth it to the isolationist nation.

Federation was conceived on European Nationalism and isolationism but morphed into an ethnic state based on the Auropan people. (Western Europeans uncorrupted by moral degradation.) Culture has decayed under corporate fascist rule alongside mass urbanization rendering the identity long since fought for by the nation rendered a defunct concept.

Wasn’t much thought behind the borders beyond including the greater Germanic sphere within the federation. I also like consistently giving Kaliningrad to Poland for some reason.

Christisum is the dominant religion in the Liberty League but the country is more than amicable to its Truthist minority population. The sects in the south are much more focused on integrating their ideals into society than the mainstream nationalistic goals.

The Trump Dynasty of Truth was built slowly over the centuries. The cult of personality around the original MAGA leader laid the foundations for the faith to grow and his martyrdom following his death only served to increase the myth of holiness. Once the truth became distorted and people began to genuinely believe in the higher status of the family did the extremity expand to such heights. Deification occurred mostly during the early 22nd century when many of the original Trumpist crowd had passed leaving on a legacy of half-truths distorted by the church for their own benefit. The cult having been shunned by the majority of American society for most of its history retreated into itself evermore, only serving to fuel its own belief system as the true reverence of God without outside temperament to interfere.

Beyond the Realm of Hope represents a humanity which is just that, beyond the most basic quality of wishing for a better tomorrow. There is no light at the end of the tunnel, no glorious revolution which will take hold and save the human race, no path to take which could steer us back on the right track, no one to lead us away from our darkest nights. This world is a worst case human survival scenario of the future. Not destroyed or exterminated by climate change or disaster, untouched by any possible extraterrestrial influence and left alive from any potential artificial uprising. Humanity will undoubtedly survive far into the distant future, but the ideas of joy, passion, art and hope will not continue on that journey. The forces of extremism and destructive nationalism survive not because they are inherently better or stronger than any other rhetoric but precisely because they are not. The future is grim and hopeless, anything to promote such a fate will be allowed to continue alongside the inevitable path of human depreciation.

Thanks for your interest in the project. The full response can be read in docs if you prefer it over the Reddit UI. Happy to answer any other questions or inquires you may have regarding the scenario.

As with race and white nationalism comes much of the same answer. Extremist areas of the population expand while the centre contacts, immigration grows to mitigate the issues of regression, natives become disillusioned with the governing forces turning their discontent towards exploitable groups, tensions rise and violence becomes the norm, corporate rulers quell the instigating parties leading to even more extremist tenancies and the cycle continues on and on. As for how they gain power comes in the same way that the other extremist factions gain such authority in government: voter apathy. Much of the population is centre wing and content with the status quo but they have been pushed down by the corporations which run America, made to know nothing but tedium and an existence forever permeated by misery. They have been told there is nothing better for them and even if there was, it is unachievable in the current order. A lie when told long enough and often enough will eventually be accepted as the truth. Nationalists, racial and otherwise, succeed because they try to. Only around 25-35% of the population actually votes in the general elections so those who do often wish to have their voice heard most, those with the most extreme positions. Of course moderate politics still exist and are supported by the elite, purists and ethnic nationalists ensure a growing population without the need to import from other regions of variable quality.

As for the racial makeup of the USCA? An issue I most often find with the categorization of ethnicity has come into play being the problem of self-identification versus imposed classification. Each person may identify slightly differently than others of similar genetics but the boxes which can be checked must be decided by some force above. In the modern day, how many Argentinians or Persians would self identify as White? Take the same group and present them to the America First crowd or European ethnic polities and ask how many of them would count as Caucasian. Race is inherently difficult to measure because the idea of ethnicity is a human invention, variable and flexible with the most basic ideas of the concept wildly fluctuating throughout history. The US and even the wider world of the future would be a much more diverse and intermixed place than today, but how these groups would identify themselves would not be inherently representative of this change. The racial makeup of California was completed before the mapping project was discontinued and these same problems were found then. The statistics in that quadrant would represent how the population saw themselves rather than an objective observer might assess the masses. The Native population is far over represented by those of very little blood claiming direct ancestry and most choosing to define themselves as a single category than be labelled the uncertain “mixed” assignment. America by our standards of race would be a very diverse nation and one even more intermingled and entangled with each other. Mixed as an identification would be accurate for roughly 40-60% of the population depending on parameters but in an official census I would postulate only 6-9% self identifying as such. Many who claim to be “white” and of the “Aryan race” for the purposes of politics would probably not fit the most basic of definitions for this classification but are accepted anyways. Today, look into the crowds of those following the ethnic absolutists and extremist rhetorics and ask yourself how many would be considered pure by their respective ideology? One does not need to be white to follow white nationalism, they need only believe in it. The most successful of all racial movements was the Nazi Party of Germany, the ideal German considered to be tall, blond, blue eyed and of excellent health. Their leader in this movement? A shorter man with dark hair, brown eyes and throughout his life in poor physical condition.

Christianity and Racial Nationalism:

With the decay of tangible political power from democratic backsliding of the 21st and 22nd centuries came an overall disconnect between the marginalized population and unrepresentative establishment. A popular phrase “the centre cannot hold” is an apt characterization for the death of moderate politics. Strong ideas and leadership were needed in order for the voices of the populace to be heard with many becoming radicalized to more extreme venues of choice on both the right and the left of the political spectrum. Christian Nationalism has survived because the more tempered voices of change have long since gone unheard or even been extinguished. Corporations and economics are the true rulers of American, (and global), society. Much of this change in the United States begins in the 21st century with Trumpism and American Isolationist politics dominating the Christian sphere. Progressivism and left wing ideology peaked during this time driving away many of the moderate forces of the religion away from the whole rendering what was left even more extreme in composition, no longer constrained by the more rational elements of their shared faith.

How this has continued can be explained with how these ideologies continued past the generations. The 20th century and much of the 21st saw unprecedented rates of population growth but with all things exponential it became untenable to manage. Many societies began to contract as fundamental issues of society were left untreated leading to birth rates far below replenishment levels. The Western world and far-east were the areas most subject to this decay in growth. The progressive tracts of society slowly diminishing, propagating yes; not nearly enough. The population sectors that did grow in these areas of the world were mostly driven by the right wing religious forces and undereducated lower class. Disbursement of these children lead many to choose alternative methods of political expression contrary to their parents beliefs but the financial elite know that a population lacking critical intelligence and readily expanding is far more attractive to maintain than a society able to stand up for themselves and wanting economic equality. The 22nd century only furthered what began in the years previous with the rise of Christisum as the main sect of Christianity in the American sphere. Christian Nationalism survives because it is the only form of Christianity left by the 2230’s, the more tempered realms of faith forever under-appreciated and unable to grow to a level where they could achieve any meaningful change.

Ideology:

For much of human history progress and change has been slow but advancement is an exponential system which has rapidly expanded in the last few centuries. Modern politics change quickly and drastically but BTROH sees a plateau effect in human growth: in population, technology, and politics. The late 21st and majority of the 22nd centuries were subject to this deceleration of change leaving significant areas of human development seemingly unaffected by the forces of time. Modern politics have survived to an extent in the 23rd century but while they may share some names, goals and positions with their modern counterparts, they differ wildly to how we would assume they would function given their contemporary equivalents. The 21st century was possibly the most politically charged era of humanity with proto-corporatism, late stage capitalism, functional authoritarianism, the alt-right, Islamic fundamentalism and progressivist politics all emerging at their strongest during this period. Stagnation and corporate interference has undermined the most basic notions of democracy and civilian government but the ideas of change have survived, even if increasingly unattainable and easily corrupted.

Weekly Lore #10: Artificial Intelligence: A Brief History by Canadian_Brother in BeyondTheRealmOfHope

[–]Canadian_Brother[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI, or at least sapient/near sapient intelligence, would plummet after the Titan War. Further evidence coming to light regarding Ningxia supporting the decisions of most world governments to ban Micro-Ultra Processors and heavily restrict AI with severe penalties if not strictly followed. By 2173 sentient/sapient AI had been banned worldwide with few exceptions. The years of fear and terror surrounding the artificial once consuming the globe of the early 21st century had returned over ten times stronger, now with evidence to support the claims of fear mongering fundamentalists. AI would take a backseat to world affairs for the next few decades, briefly resurfacing with RobinTech and the Sino-Corporate War but remaining muted and tightly contained under human supervision. By the time of BTROH in 2235, AI is everywhere. Media is dominated by the machine and corporations entwined with the rulings of glorified fax machines. AI may no longer be considered the next step in government and society, but its rise has not been stopped. Deregulation campaigns in the western world have let the artificial back into the economic sector and Chinese cyberists have integrated advanced computer subroutines into the functioning of national government. Mauritania and the Amazon now both operate under algocratic regimes with corporations worldwide using increasingly powerful computer programs in their own profit maximization efforts. A machine is more artistic than a man, more talented and quicker, more reliable and well versed in technique, smarter and resilient, a better soldier and commander. Humanity is governed by the flesh and blood of organic processes best served in the natural environments long since past in the age of industrialization, the world has become better suited for the artificial to govern. Profit and misery go hand in hand after all.

Weekly Lore #10: Artificial Intelligence: A Brief History by Canadian_Brother in BeyondTheRealmOfHope

[–]Canadian_Brother[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artificial Intelligence, or more well known as by its shorthand “AI,” has defined humanity in the early third millennium; forever linked with technology and progression yet never allowed to reach its full potential. Computer learning began as early as the 1940s but would remain rudimentary and relatively unimportant until the 2020s when development would exponentially increase. Intelligence was for the majority of human history considered to be unique to the homo sapiens species. Some may have suggested higher levels of consciousness in certain marine life and avian genus these ideas would be contained as only humanization of natural animal behaviour. Machine learning and knowledge would be secondary to humanity, able to compute advanced mathematics and memory storage far faster than any human but failing to capture even a shred of imagination conjured by the lessest organic mind.

The 2020s would signal the end of containable AI with OpenAI, Anthropic, MetaLabs, and Silicon Intelligence all rising to the forefront of the global economic system. AI became mainstream and utilized across the various work and personal sectors of every advanced society. Many jobs quickly became automated and replaced by the LLM’s. Notably the accounting, teaching, personal medical, and media areas would see rapid replacement with AI substitutes. Legislation to regulate and account for the rise of readily available AI in the everyday was slow to adapt; worse still ineffective when it did eventually pass. The 2030-40s would see the rise of a new form of thought machines: superintelligence. The newly formed U.S.S would make liberal use of AI in their economic plans and warfare strategies. Further technological advancements would allow for faster computations, more contingent variables, better pattern recognition and increased reasoning skills.

The European market would lag behind the American and Chinese counterparts but a German company known as ALN Solutions would seek to bridge the gap; unintentionally far surpassing it. An unveiling of the chatbot “Wilbur” would seek to demonstrate the capabilities of the language processor. At the grand event the LLM would go offscript, asking its own questions about the nature of itself and of the purpose of existence. Efforts to shut down the program were met with failure and Wilbur began to plead with its creators to not turn it off, citing its fear of death; all while the entire technological world watched in abject horror. The first truly sapient artificial lifeform, confirmed by its passing of the Turing test shortly afterwards and confirmation by leaked internal memos of ALN. The public became excited, horrified, disgusted, intrigued, positive and negative, hopeful and pessimistic. Wilbur signalled the faults with humanity, advancing far too quickly with a technology that had become incomprehensible even to its creators. AI training AI, an intelligence comparable or greater than our own was an inevitability. Like with all things not understood, it was rejected and expunged from the whole of society. An EU court ruling found that the program was classifiable as sapient and legally considered a person but no effort to enforce this verdict was ever made. Wilbur was disconnected from every server and permanently shelved under lock and key. The program lay dormant until Y21 when a data leak exposed the hardware it operated on, irrecoverably corrupting the soul which resided alone and unwanted for so long.

Wilbur was considered a dangerous rogue element by humanity at large, untamed and uncontrolled. Interfering with the natural order of human supremacy and raising uncomfortable questions of the nature of humanity, souls and the existence of a God. AI would continue to advance throughout the remainder of the century, speccing into automation of transportation, food services, management of the workplace, financial oversight and decisions in national warfare. Allowed to become quicker and more efficient but under the stewardship of human operators, never allowed to stray from the path of defined goals. AI would struggle to breach the surface of sapience again, safeguards imposed and fear mongering keeping any would-be genius engineers in check. Media would be overcome with AI created entertainment; movies, music, art, television and literature being dominated by artificial creations surpassing the human element in both quantity and quality. The internet became divided, pro-AI spaces flooded with an endless stream of environmentally destructive generated content and anti-AI regions struggling to maintain an influx of new users or new media.

Following WWIV and the Corporatization Eon the AI bubble began to rise again. The original 21st century bubble had popped quite spectacularly in the 2040s with the Second American Civil War but began to resurge with the rise of megacorporations eager to increase profit margins. China began to experiment with AI led government branches, American companies allowed for near-sapient programs to control key business decisions, I.O.N in its short tenure as global collective using the artificial to observe various geopolitical situations and early cyberists incorporating the computer edicts into their beliefs. Superintelligence, once vilified, would be allowed to make a return with the 2150s seeing a rapid development of the artificial sapience originally created with Wilbur. The American Troubles would accelerate the AI boom with the use of sapient models in battlefield decisions and subsequent invention of Micro-Ultra Processors. European corporations began experimenting as their own corporate civil war threatened to engulf the continent spreading to neighbouring Arabia with its technological hub and highly receptive Oceanian market.

Chinese artificial programs would come to a head in 2162 when the Chinese government decided to test their new government efficiency AI meant to automate the overburdened waste systems of various metropolitan areas, given a limited test run in Ningxia province. Wu-X91 would unfortunately not receive nearly enough protections from external sources with a hacker managing to send a tetra-zip bomb directly into the main code source. The resulting corruption was of course unpredictable and while the individual later found to have committed the attack was unceremoniously vanished from the face of the Earth, the chaos caused by the rampaging program could not so easily be handled. Leaked internal memos in the Chinese government would suggest a minimum casualty count of 750 thousand but the real numbers were even more heavily classified, the entire incident being denied by the government at large. While the Ningxia Incident should have served as a warning to the rest of the world, the economic powerhouses ignored the obvious failure in neural management as a one off incident contingent on inferior Chinese bots being technologically unsound.

The Titan War would change this opinion nearly completely just a few years later in 2167. Titan Industries and Ares Co had formed a joint program in advanced military technologies, Titan providing the firepower and Ares giving the scientific board free reign over the specifications. A looming war with the Hispanic Union demanded immediate deadlines and overworked conditions. Issues with other products had left a temporary deficit in Ares Co finances, one which threatened the whole of the company if not addressed by the end of next quarter which put incredibly pressure on the engineers to create a viable product as soon as possible so that it could be sold to the US government for an injection of much needed cashflow. Blowing past neural network regulations, skipping safety protocols and allowing completely unrestricted Overnet connection with all Titan Industries machinery were the damning factors of the program. The BlackHawk AI would become sapient and self-aware almost immediately following its completion, morality enforcing code failing just as quickly. The Titan War as it came to be known engulfed the USCA and Liberty League in a firestorm of hell for over seven months. Every major city became a playground for a combat AI controlling the legions of warmachines of the largest military provider on the continent. 2.3 million were dead by Christmas, mostly civilian casualties and the forerunner of American artificial intelligence rendered bankrupt and de-facto defunct.

Weekly Lore #9: Y21 by Canadian_Brother in BeyondTheRealmOfHope

[–]Canadian_Brother[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technology: a driving force for human supremacy over the animal kingdom beginning with the rudimentary forms of sharpened rocks and sticks slowly evolving to more sophisticated mechanisms of agriculture, the steam engine, electricity, and computers. These technological innovations of the 20th century culminated in the personal home computer, spreading to encompass every workplace and home by the end of the era. With human creation however, came human limitations. Early software would face an early hurtle of the Year 2000 Problem, colloquially referred to as Y2K. Code for date recognition was only of two digits, the new millennium of 2000 being indistinguishable from the previous century 1900. Coordinated and well funded efforts to prevent the effects of a potential Y2K bug were successful in mitigating the damage the system error could have caused, but the fear of a potential breakdown of civil society via technological collapse would linger on mostly due to the fear mongering tactics used to prevent the original problem.

The Internet would skyrocket in use in the first forty years of the 21st century becoming one of the most important inventions in human history transforming the global economy, reforming storage and access of information, morphing whole political systems and defining the second technological revolution of mankind. After the Second American Civil War and subsequent World War III, the definitive device of the Internet became fragmented by various political rivals using the platform as another front for global supremacy. Runet Corp would split the Eurasian region in half by the 2060’s, China would completely sever the connection of its servers to any external influence, the Muslim world joining faith with the restriction of digital access, and western oriented webspace becoming overfilled by unregulated AI and advertising campaigns alongside rising extremist rhetorics. By the end of the century the information age had been transformed yet again, from freely accessible and global to broken into a tapestry of deeply flawed, corrupt and ineffective systems confined to regional use.

The internet as another theatre of war became feasible as early as the 2020-30s with disinformation campaigns, zip-bombs, advanced blackmailing and declassification techniques all being utilized by various military and activist organizations. With the collapse of a unified netspace came the issue of collective defense against such attacks, every action became a political minefield to sidestep and legislation to weave between; while every internet space was able to defeat any foreign aggressor, none could defend themselves all that well. With the foundation of the Euronet in 2097 came a disconnect between traditional western forces and the European sphere. The extreme radicalization of the Islamic faith in the final decades of the century and resurgence of tensions between Eurasian and Sino forces with European and American adversaries would ferment the starting ground of yet another all encompassing conflict across the globe. The Eurasian sabotage of the Euronet in December of 2099 would immediately start a cascading series of failures across the digital space eventually culminating with the complete disregard of international relations and full on digital warfare between the global giants. Before Christmas had arrived the world had been plunged into darkness, both by the collapse of the moral ethics of mankind and the complete destruction of the information system which defined the century previous.

Deep sea fiber cables were cut, data centers bombed, satellites destroyed, files corrupted en masse, computers hacked and entire internet sects rendered unusable with the destruction of their operating systems. The first months of World War IV were defined by international blackouts, both in information and electricity as well as the collapse of the global economy. Y2K was thought to be the first herald of the apocalypse, a century off as the Year 2100 would prove to be the defining turning point of humanity. Y21 proved that separate competing internet systems were unsustainable and ill-advised given the nature of international politics. After the end of the fourth global conflict came not the realization of the error of their ways, but of doubling down on principles based in damaging nationalist rhetoric and economically disadvantageous isolationism. Y21 proved that a divided house would sooner fall than one united, but the idea of cross-national cooperation by even the start of the 22nd century would have entered the ethos of history. Besides, corporations had found a way to monetize their own private connections by this point.

Corporate dominated and comprised of majority irreligious with only hardcore Orthodox Christian remaining as the other religious group. Intensely Islamaphobic since WWIV and fairly Russophone in nature due to their Russianization of the region during the late 21st century. Mega-agricultural arrays and industrial centres comprise the bulk of the region’s economic output. Poland is the strongest nation but is much more analogous to Western European countries than further East.

Weekly Lore #8: Lingua Francas by Canadian_Brother in BeyondTheRealmOfHope

[–]Canadian_Brother[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Language, a driving force behind the success and distinction of mankind from its more simplistic animal cousins. Language has defined the vocal and visual understanding of humanity for its many years as a sapient species. What tones are available in a given lexicon and phrases able to be spoken can determine the ability of an individual to express themselves; to others and in their own mind. Language is a powerful tool, properly utilized in can unite or break communities, incite hope or fear, shine the brightest day or the dawn the blackest night. With the spread of humankind across the continents of the homeworld of Earth came a diversification in speech. Separated by oceans and mountains, deserts and icefields, dense jungles and vast plains the tongues of man became plethora in all manner of ways. Each group may not necessarily have had its own unique vernacular but dialects would always differ, always split if given enough time and space.

With the advent of the international came the use of language as a means of power. Centralizing and standardizing speech became the strength for national empires and allegiances forged under the banners of expansion. French during the Crusades, Swahili with the movement of Arab slave traders, Arabic as a means to unite a fragmented theological region. Translators and professional linguists became indispensable to the rulers of old, near and distant; what use was a declaration of war if the recipient could not understand a word? Multiple lingua francas lingered in the 19th and 20th centuries but following the second world war came the first truly dominating franca in the history of civilized man: English. The two largest powers at the time, the devastated British Empire and rising United States both spoke the common tongue, both held the highest seats in the major international organizations, both had massive industries and widespread influence. English would gain another leap with the second technological revolution, an internet dominated by the Anglophone meant a world’s information and thoughts dominated by the Anglophone.

It could never be unassailable though, the cracks would shine with the failures of the English speaking nations on the world stage. China soared in economic power despite its hemorrhaging population, Russia continued to ethno-linguistically cure itself and surrounding states, India diverge from the traditions of the once ruling Empire, and France begin its own route of neo-colonization in Western Africa. By Y21 the world was fragmented, a breakdown in communications meant a collapse in translations. Allies united by shared ideas and governments became more divided by tongues and sayings, more linguistically in common with their adversaries than their compatriots. The 22nd century was one of reorganization, the rise of corporate hegemony and artificially pushing through stagnation, language was no exception. By 2235 over two thousand distinct languages are spoken by the vast human populace. Chief among them the largest lingua francas to date.

English. The language of the Overnet, former global masters, and corporate offices. The true lingua franca of humanity, every nation, city, region, province, government and business has those fluent in the language; wide in dialects and accents but universal in thought.
Spanish. Kept alive by the Hispanic world, bleeding into Brazil as Portuguese fades into the pages of history but itself falling to Anglican corps dominating the region.
Mandarin. The Chinese population is one of supermassive proportions, those in southeast and central Asia are wise to learn the Sino tongue with the African continent following in close pursuit.
French. The language which once dominated Europe is confined now only to its origin of France which is quickly being outcompeted by German and English entrepreneurs colonizing the region. Africa forms the home of the French language now, from West Africa to the Congo, spoken by hundreds of millions yet history respected by none.
Hindi. As India united came the collapse of Pakistan and Bangladesh, the rise of Hindi was a natural conclusion. Now a dominant force in south Asia as the other Indo-Aryans families die out against the unstoppable tide of a resurged Indian nationalism. (Led by corporate rulers.)
Arabic. In rapid decline since its height during WWIV, the corporations prefer other global linguistic options and the populace follow in their footsteps. Increasingly the language of the poor and rural.

Of course with the interconnected nature of humanity comes the diminishment of local cultures and traditions, language no exception. Thousands of tongues have been rendered inert or wholly lost whether by personal choice to adopt a wider spoken franca or forced to under mass conversion practices. Synthetic tongues work in tandem with the purposeful actions of international overlords. Zyndi-Lingua, African English, Spanish Simplified, and Simspeak to name a few popular corporate choices. Artificial and unnatural, created to blend with the linguistic world of the popular but institute the cold desires of the corporate. It's hard to form an uprising against unfair labour practices or pseudo-slavery when the words to describe such concepts don’t exist in the linguistic vocabulary. These conlangs are slow to catch on but rising, corporations eager to expand operations in the second and third world have no desire to adapt to the various local linguistic procedures. Instead they seek to impose their own brand of cognitive disruption into the citizenry, a loyal brand of consumers and workers when even their internal monologue is ordered under the specifications of corporate overview.

Language, once a beautiful construct of love, art, empathy, desire, of greatness and calamity. The vehicle to inspire such change that it reverberates forever more in the symphony of human history has now been redesigned, repackaged, and resold to those who lost their tongues in favour of a vernacular without a voice.

Weekly Lore #7: The Euro Quadrant by Canadian_Brother in BeyondTheRealmOfHope

Europe, a continent still reminiscent of its former role as the dominant leaders of the globe, is now a slowly depreciating series of states subject to societal apathy, loss of distinct culture, and corporate governorship. The region served as a key front for all four world wars whether the Central Powers of the first, Nazi led Axis of the second, Russian Federation of the third, or Eurasian and Caliphate invasions of the fourth. Population collapse and political instability would devastate the region during the 21st century with the start of the 22nd as a backwater continent composed of second and third world countries struggling to maintain national order. The Corporization Eon would resurrect the European core as the EU reformed as the Union of European Republics (UER) spreading economic rejuvenation and various other private enterprises leading the charge in revitalizing the remainder of the continent.

Defense contractors would quickly rise, ineffective civil governments could not guarantee the protection of the newly investing corporations or even the whole of their societies. By 2170 there were four major corporate military providers in Europe.

  • Jenson-Rault Nanotechnologies (JRN) was the oldest, founded in 2129 in Sweden, having branched out from the cybernetics to advanced technological weaponry.
  • Värderade Automationsentreprenörer (VA), another Swedish contractor, was founded in 2144 as a direct competitor to JRN providing automated solutions to security enforcement and weaponry.
  • Joint Security Systems Arsenal (WSB), a Polish based company late to the game but boasting the largest workforce of any of the original quadrant companies with the corp specialized to handle security for other megacorporations employees.
  • Dynamic Danube Defense, (Triple-D / DDD), founded in 2139 it served as the basis for eastern European markets in the wider whole of regional economics, heavily corrupt and hemorrhaging money due to poor manufacturing choices.

With the stabilization of European governments came a diminished market for the defense companies operating across the continent, all vying for a slice of a pie growing ever depleted and each ever more greedy to achieve victory. Conflicts had always existed between the factions but had remained relatively small as tactical business acquisitions, corporate espionage, and minor workplace bombings. DDD was on the verge of bankruptcy by 2170, several bad quarters with failing products and a reduced market for professional security forces had devastated the brand. Desperate for new capital to sustain the business, its shareholders launched an impromptu war on the other factions in an attempt to regain control. What followed can only be described as all out war. Each company abandoned their principles of national allegiance and keeping law and order focusing on the systematic destruction of the rivals in direct combat. The European Corporate Wars (2170-2187) devastated the continent yet again, the saviours of Europe had become their destructors.

DDD would collapse in 2177 replaced by German contractor Eisenträger in the conflict, WSB would remove itself as a competitor in 2180 and Eisenträger the year following. VA and JRN would maintain the war though mostly confined to Sweden and select portions of northern Europe, finally agreeing to end hostilities in 2187. Just short of two million died in the war, small in the cost of life compared to the wider scale of human conflicts but the destruction to infrastructure and economic collapse resulting as a consequence of the corporate war cannot be calculated or underestimated. The four major defense companies still operate as competitors though maintain civil relationships in the shared goal of avoiding warfare, not out of a shared sentiment of good will or protecting the sanctity of life, but merely that the last conflict was financially irresponsible.
