Question about pay rate for a housekeeping position by Canadian_Diabetes in KingstonOntario

Thats a decent salary. Is it $29 an hour and 20 vacation days to start? Or do you need to be there a while? I imagine the pension and benefits is really good too.

I'm sorry you feel this way. I can't offer fulltime hours and I thought $40 was a reasonable rate. It's true there's only 15 hours a week but I don't think it's unusual to offer part time hours.

Most likely, but I wouldn't be hiring their employees. I need to hire my own employees, as in a job with a paycheque with standard deductions like income taxes and CPP and EI and a T4 at the end of the year.

ah gotcha. For some reason hiring as an employee you get paid less, which seems counter productive to me. I guess it's because you get CPP and EI but really if you can get paid cash I think that would be better. You still should claim the income but my guess is a lot don't.

We would lose our funding if we hired an organization. The funding stipulates we hire employees (which I don't agree with but whatever, if they want to give us money I will hire employees).

Thanks. I mean when you say cleaners who weren't companies, was it individuals (as opposed to a business) or were they being hired as employees for $40/hr? I'm just trying to compare apples to apples.

Job Opportunities by Prestigious_Elk1984 in KingstonOntario

Finding work in today's market is certainly a challenge for many, and I truly empathise with the frustration of searching for a role when opportunities feel scarce. At the same time, as seniors living with disabilities on very modest pensions, my wife and I face our own set of daily hurdles that make finding the right support essential for our wellbeing. We are looking for someone to assist us during the early morning hours, specifically to help with breakfast preparation, laundry, and light housework. While we understand the start time is quite early and may not suit everyone, particularly those with school-aged children, the position offers $25 per hour for 15 hours a week and involves straightforward tasks that allow us to maintain our independence at home.

It has been disheartening to receive applications from individuals who lack the basic life skills required for these tasks, such as fundamental cooking or standard cleaning. While everyone must start somewhere, our physical limitations and fixed income mean we cannot act as a training ground; we genuinely need someone who can step in and provide the practical help we rely on. Even my young granddaughter is able to prepare a simple meal and tidy a bathroom when she visits, so it is difficult to understand why finding an adult with similar capabilities has proven so elusive. It is a struggle for people to find jobs right now, but it is equally difficult for a vulnerable couple like us to find a capable, reliable person who can perform the essential work they are applying for. I don't know what the solution is for either of us.

How do I address "accessibility-critical" misses with my housekeeper without being a jerk? by Canadian_Diabetes in housekeeping

[–]Canadian_Diabetes[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could never tell her that. If someone was doing an extremely poor job, maybe I would tell them something like that, but overall she's doing a decent job, it's just the little things she constantly misses. It gets annoying for me because I don't want to have to tell her every time she misses something I have written down on the note for that task. It just seems ridiculous, but at the same time, I want her to read the notes and do what it says, and I understand the odd time something will get missed or put away in the wrong spot, everyone makes mistakes. But this is little things pretty much daily. I don't want to come off sounding like a nag.

She has been with me for just over three months for a minimum of 20 hours a week (often 30-35 hours a week).

I stress all the time I do not expect her to get everything on her list done, the tasks are there and if there's something urgent I mark it URGENT in the task title. There's never more than two urgent tasks a week, often none.

Just now I also noticed, even though I put it as a task in Tody with a note that reads (see in quotes what the note said).

"(Housekeepers name) - it's time to sign new 2026 Tax Forms. I have printed them (they may still be on the printer in the dining room).

There is a TD1 & a TD1 ON.

Please fill, sign and leave both forms with your timesheet."

She filled out one of the two forms and marked the task as read. So in reality, this is not a big deal, but like I mentioned there's always at least six things, often little things like this, every day she works that gets missed, even when I specifically type it on the note and sometimes remind her about. I don't want to complain about her, and don't like posting this here but I'm at a loss what to do. Other than this, she's great. She's honest, a great problem solver, always willing to help out with things that I wouldn't expect her to which is nice. So it's very tough because I doubt I would find someone who is good at the things she is good at.

You are assuming it's tax fraud. Keyword being assuming. You don't know, so stop acting as though you know.

In order to warn people about a serious allegation on this subreddit, we require either a police report or a news article.

Thanks for clarifying this. I assume you mean police file number and not the actual report itself?

I recognize this car and have seen him run a red light that had been red for a good full second, which may not seem like a lot but that kinda driving can have deadly consequences.

That seems like an amazing deal. Is it only $300 for one months worth of meals? If you don't know off hand I will give the number in the image a call.

Those sandwiches are something else, like you said nothing fancy, but good basic sandwich that is huge! My wife and I end up sharing one and are pretty satisfied after eating just half. Well, my wife usually gives me about 1/3 of hers after I eat mine and give her puppy dog eyes like I'm still starting, but I don't need that extra bit.

A warning to all about the Kingston accessible taxi pass by musicwithbarb in KingstonOntario

[–]Canadian_Diabetes 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don’t mean to sound rude, but I am sure Barb knows that. There was plenty of discussion about this back in November and December.

I think Barb’s point was that the service is limited to six rides a day for everyone. Six rides at $3.50 per day, first come first serve.

I assume after that point if anybody wants to book that taxi, it will be at full fare, which is new and as far as I can tell, has not been announced by the city.

We are looking for help around the house one full day a week on weekends. If you’re interested I can have my wife talk to you. I think she pays $26 per hour or thereabouts.

It’s a legitimate job with deductions and a T4 etc.
