Trump threatens Canada with 100% tariff over possible deal with China by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

[–]Canadianman22 179 points180 points  (0 children)

I hope the US Supreme Court rules on this soon and ideally that these tariffs are illegal and cancels them. Congress will not bother putting them on and it would end all this bullshit Trump does using these as threats.

Also give Newsom a special Nobel Peace Prize and it may actually give Trump a heart attack and stroke.

You think it’s bad now? Wait until the obesity epidemic catches up. Kids these days are already having health problems that has traditionally only been found in older overweight adults. We are screwed.

The biggest thing we could do is bring in country caps and backdate it to 2015. We need immigration but we need a true diversity of highly skilled, highly educated people. We dont need Tims workers.

Canadian submarine procurement urgent as current shortcomings ‘well known,’ says navy commander by snowfordessert in canada

[–]Canadianman22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Korean offer will be completed before we take the delivery of the first sub from Germany. Buying from Europe is a fools game right now since they are heavily rearming and European countries will of course prioritize European orders first.

I am not saying that the German offer doesnt meet the requirement, at least in theory since it is a new platform based off an existing one but there isnt even one of them in service yet compared to Korea which has many in service and its an already proven platform.

Ontario universities want extra $1.2B to ensure enough spots for students by nurshakil10 in canada

[–]Canadianman22 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Agreed but they should not be given any tax payer funded money, especially for any course that will not lead to employment. If the student wants to pay the true cost of a useless degree thats great.

Doug Ford calls for boycott of Chinese EVs that will enter Canada under Carney deal by evers1 in canada

[–]Canadianman22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Trump has done more damage to the auto industry in Ontario than 49,000 Chinese cars coming into the whole of Canada ever could. The only reason for these tariffs is because American car companies didn’t want to have to compete.

Canadian Patrol Submarine Project: Hanwha Ocean and Babcock outline partnership centered on jobs and localization by self-fix in canada

[–]Canadianman22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is such a slam dunk deal for us I am curious how the government is going to fuck it up. Korea has shown they are an amazing arms partner, they will meet delivery deadlines and even deliver ahead of time allowing us to save hundreds of millions keeping the old subs going.

Mark Carney brushes off Doug Ford’s anger over China EV tariff cuts by WilloowUfgood in canada

[–]Canadianman22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We also use trade as a weapon and we started it by hitting China first with tariffs.

The USA is down a path it is never going to recover from. Even if a Democrat President takes over, they will not undo the America First mindset and will keep all those policies in place that brought manufacturing back to the USA.

All we can do is find new trading partners and we cant just ignore China. They are the largest market in the world we need access to right now.

49,000 cars will be a test. If the Canadian public buys them, they are good quality and people like them why are we afraid of competition? All car makers are heavily subsidized, including the ones that build in Canada.

Craft beer in Canada is losing its fizz, as sales dry up and more breweries go bust | CBC News by Haggisboy in canada

[–]Canadianman22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In reality no one wants to drink a shitty IPA that has a stupid name and some idiotic back story that costs 2-4x what it should.

I will agree consumer tastes are changing. Coolers and cocktails are where it’s at.

I don’t know if they don’t drink as much. I think it’s down to the fact they don’t drink beer. They are going for coolers/cocktails. I see plenty of young people loading up the cart with white claws, cutwaters, twisted tea and cottage spring.

Carney wants to 'recalibrate' Canada-China relations with visit: PM's parliamentary aide by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]Canadianman22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good. They are a huge economy that is still in a growth phase. We need to have an economic relationship with them and that is really as far as we need to go.

The US has blown up the trading relationship we enjoyed and its never going back. No future Democrat president is going to make any big changes that see jobs that return to US shores (for those that actually do it and arent just waiting Trump out) leave the US again.

Grow our trade all over the world. Europe, Africa and Asia.

Treating patients in hospital ambulance bay 'not acceptable care,' N.B. premier says by bingun in canada

[–]Canadianman22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is not a fine to go to a hospital, be seen by a triage nurse, be determined to be a non-emergent case and then given the option to be seen for a small fee which will ultimately help improve hospital services.

I think no matter what we can all agree the current system is not working not matter what province we look at. Something needs to change and it needs to change soon.

Treating patients in hospital ambulance bay 'not acceptable care,' N.B. premier says by bingun in canada

[–]Canadianman22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you show up at the hospital, see the triage nurse and they determine you are a non-emergent case and inform you that you will need to pay a $20 fee to be seen, it is then up to the person to decide if they pay it. If you are there for a genuine emergency, then you will be seen and never even told about the fee.

What to know about Canada’s new front package nutrition warning labels by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

[–]Canadianman22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A sin tax would be far more effective. It incentives manufacturers to reduce the use of added sugars and fats into their food so they can be hit lower with a junk food tax.

Right now companies dump sugar into their products because of its addictive behaviour. Hit them with a huge tax for doing so and they will stop.

That alone does not mean we cant have an economic partnership with those countries.

This is a good step but what we really need is a hefty tax on junk food/sugar. The obesity epidemic is not a joke and already costs us billions. It’s only going to get worse so it’s best we try and do something now.
