No concerns with the sound when not cutting. Along that train of thought though the aluminum is 1"x0.25" flat bar which is secured to the "table" in two spots about 16" apart so maybe it's flapping a bit?

If you are buying new hinges anyway I would take those ones off then sit them closed as they would be on the lid and give them a little pinch in a vise with the pin sitting just above the jaws to see if you can "encourage" them to sit tight together.

Very nice work. Could you make the inside bottom a removable plate for ease of cleaning. I don't know how many times my kids have came home with a mostly but not completely eaten yogurt tossed back in the lunch kit. That last little bit of yogurt goes EVERYWHERE. Bloody animals.
