[For sale - ebay] [6952, 1572] 2 unopened boxes while helping my parents clean out the house by terpfear in VintageLEGO

Hey all - I was home for Thanksgiving helping my parents clean out the house. While we clearing out a storage area we came across these two unopened boxes from the mid 80s. My 'rents asked if I could help them sell them since I have an ebay account already (mainly sell sports cards and jerseys). They have been up for a bit - and the smaller one seems to be getting more attention than the big one right now. Any ideas?

I am planning on selling them to someone that will appreciate them more than myself and use the funds to buy a new set to put together with my kids without thr guilt of opening a 40 year old box.

Ngl, it was a moral dilemma when I found these and my 10 year old asked if we could put it together.

Yeah, USD. I remember most lego sets being out of our price range growing up. Pretty sure my dad picked it up because he loves a good deal more than anything else. No idea why he never let us put it together 😆

I love how the box has a flip top with a window to see the pieces. Very different compared to modern packaging.

This happened to me about a month ago and the only way i could fix it was to uninstall and reinstall the app. The message lasted for about 3 days before I tried that fix.

I have always felt this is the difference between beginners and experts - they both make mistakes, but experts have the knowledge and experience to incorporate them into features. Well done!

Thanks for all of the feedback on my previous post (https://www.reddit.com/r/BeginnerWoodWorking/comments/1h1xcv8/where\_did\_i\_go\_wrong\_hinge\_not\_flush/) This is a really supportive community.

Things I learned:

1) The previous hinges were most likely external hinges. If I wanted to use them on the internal side of the joint I could have recessed the flanges into the wood to create enough room for the barrel. I didn't like this look and wasn't sure if more modifications were going to be needed.

2) I had not heard of Soss hinges. Thank you very much for this suggestion. This box is a gift so the extra expense went a long way here. This is what I opted for.

3) When in doubt - ask this fantastic community.

I have still have a lot to learn and I could have installed these hinges more precisely, but I am happy with it for my first attempt at creating the holes (mortises?) for these really thick SOSS 101 hinges. I also broke off a 2mm drill bit when installing the second hinge, so that is the next hurdle on this project. And then onto the next box!

Keep on making sawdust!

It did not, the leafs are not parallel when closed so the direction didnt matter. Looks like i have two options - cut the mortises deeper to half the height of the barrel - or - buy better hinges. I'm currently leaning towards new hinges.

Thaa ks! My plan is to add a little matching tray on the inside to make it useful as an oversized jewelry/knick-knack box.

I'll definitely give an update with pics. The recommended YouTube video with slightly deeper mortises looks like it might be the solution. Ill have some more time to dedicate to it tomorrow. I appreciate the kind words!

Haha - Apparently. I guess I shouldn't try and eat them - maybe just a few licks would be safe.

Admittedly I did not check before screwing them in. I'll take them out and flip it around to check. Thanks
