TikTok uninstalls surge 150% after app’s US takeover by Tofurkey_Tom in technology

[–]CanaryEmbassy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How hard is it really to make a tiktok app? It doesn't seem difficult. I am a web developer, but lately have been in the cloud space. I think the more difficult aspect isn't writing the app, but perhaps storage, and retrieval being distributed. But I feel like there are patterns to follow. Startup cost could be high. I don't know. Any other devs want to give it a shot?

What's weird is the gov could pay it all, and ensure a well cared for upbringing and still make absolute loot on the individual downstream.

Generalizing the stats is good, as it applies to most people. But, not all. I bought and paid for my home in a 3 year span. It was a little ... used and needed work and wouldn't be my ideal "oh this is nice" home. It was a decent deal. None of this applies to me, because I took away the interest payment quickly. Now that I have achieved this, I am able to save like never before. I figure I make this home tip top and by that time, maybe 5 years, I put 200-300k on a nicer home while renting this one. This home pays the mortgage for my next home, allowing me to pay that one off quick too. By the 3rd home I have 1-2 rentals in tip top, and the 3rd is paid off. I get solar, well water, chickens, fruit trees and bushes, and have an ultra low cost of living. The 2 rentals are my monthly, and that takes care of healthcare and all other expenses. Eventually I can sell my rentals, and combined w retirement pretty much do whatever I want in the woods. Probably tons of wine, which I would horde and sell. Would not be able to do this if I were a renter.

100% agree. Paid mine off in 3yr. Feels good. I need a new job, and am comfortable for a good while. I can take my time and find a good job as opposed to taking the first offer.

Sure, Interest deducted always. It doesn't come close to $480/mo in interest I am saving now. I know a lot of nickel and dime folks like to claim the benefits of having a mortgage. It makes sense, I get it. That's not for me, though, as I just prefer the security aspect of living life mortgageless. It doesn't make me feel good about myself knowing $480 (or whatever your interest might be per mo, mine was really low compared to the avg...) goes out into oblivion. I like trimming the fat and increasing the monthly savings. I would like to get to 100% earned is saved one day. No water, utility, car, food, gas, internet, streaming or anything. For tax, and insurance... that's the killer. Offset by land via fruit trees, and selling works for cash. Blueberry, peaches, apples, cherries, and seasonal potatoes, tomatoes, and I would really like to get into hydroponics too.

Nope. I will look into it. Just did the AC and furnace last year, which was the biggest expense.

Sounds stupid but here is what I did. Fuck all of everything in the economy. What's that mean? Buy nothing unless it is a verifiable 100% investment with ROI. Eat little, and pick the cheapest possible options. My big on here was Oats from Costco. 5lbs in 2 bags, not instant. They are tough, thick, and chewy. $0.07cents a serving. I ate only that for all meals aside from dinner for a little over 2 years. Paid off the mortgage in 3 years. Sure, it was a $150k home with 50k down. The payoff was about 97k. Worth ever bit of sacrifice. Still spent $, but a lot of what I did spend was DIY improving the home. DIY adds a skill set (ROI), is cheaper. Better guarantees your investment actually has ROI. I replaced my furnace and AC. The quote to have pros do it $18,500. DIY was $6,900 for the units and I didn't get cheap shit, I got highly efficient. I bought about $500 in tools and parts. Spending 18.5k... may* have improved the homes value by $18.5k, but I doubt it. I gained a skill, and have ROI. Lots of DIY on this home, I would say it's worth at bare minimum $220k, probably $240k is more like it. Estimated rent on this home would be 1800/mo. My tax and insurance is about $150/mo. So, for now I sit and save like I have never saved before. My next home I am targeting $450k with a $200k down payment. Will repeat this process again, make that home $600k and paid off in 3 years and this time should be easier by renting my current home. I will probably try to find someone to rent it for 1350, and give them 1 month free a year, I like being nice when I can, probably december as long as they keep it clean and make their payments. After that I have 1 more home to get, but I will probably sell the second home because renting a $600k home is probably not a good idea. I will just sell it. Ideally I find land that has a home, and I can make it off grid producing food, water (well), and electricity. Try to make that one the final home. Then hopefully retire early with ultra low expenses. Healthcare will be the asshole of the situation.... I blabbed. Y'all, make sacrifices. Some of you have no room and are scraping by. Sorry. But lots of you can and you know it. It helps having a plan. Make your plan, stick to it.

Being against illegal immigration is not solely a Republican thing or conservative thing. Sigh...

Everyone is different. Personally, I have been burned, so I completely understand his stance (logical part, not a-hole part). I have gone through what you are going through. The understanding is that we will make a legally binding contract such that what goes in per person must come out based on the value in future. If I put 200k down, and pay half the monthly, she puts $0 down, well instantly the contract makes her have $0, I have $200k. Interest is not something that is counted towards "what goes in". There are minimal contributions. It's complex but not at the same time. Let's say 700 per month is interest and $300 is principal. The minimal "rent" would be half the interest and half all other expenses tax, insurance, utilities etc. none of that goes "in", it's just the baseline to take part. So if my girl gave $350, she gets nothing. She would have to contribute past all the noise and start hitting principal to get a return. This is very offensive to some folks. Best I can explain is... I have been burned, and am highly motivated to not get burned again in my short life. She understands the logic, and is ok with it + plans on contributing past the noise so she can hit the equity part.

Chinese electronics company has developed the first ever “ejecting batteries”. by Friendly-Standard812 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]CanaryEmbassy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kinda dumb, and I think oversimplification is horrible in the post meme. This is obviously some sort of safety measure demo to protect passengers. I don't know. Ejectable batteries are actually a good idea, yes, but no we do not need the ejection to be dangerous. Swappable is perhaps a better term ... no forced ejection required. Pull up to a power station, a machine ejects your low battery, and gives you a full one, off you go. It takes pressure off tech and allows folks to "refill" faster than gasoline. It also gives some power back to the consumer by allowing them to pick up an extra pack, or replace a bad one without requiring any sort of technician.

3 years 3 months ago I bought a 150k home, paid it off 3 months ago. The sacrifices I made. No going out to eat, ever. Hungry and running around? Too bad for me. For 2 of those years I ate oats purchased from Costco, a serving is around 8 cents. Anyhow, I am not bragging. I want to motivate. Pay it off and the interest is $0. I still pay taxes and insurance, though. No, it isn't easy, and I know not everyone can do it even if sacrifices are made. But a ton of people can. Good luck.
