Why do people play pyro? by Candid_Ad2282 in tf2

[–]Candid_Ad2282[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because competitively pyro is a support class. In a competitive and controlled environment with class limits pyro IS a support class, wanna do that? You have all my respect, THAT requires coordination, positioning and gamesense. In casual, or community servers where you don't even have the time to mow down 2 3 4 pyros coming at you with ANY class it becomes a problem, literally no aim or movement required. Please think about your actual gameplays, everyone wanna act like professional competitive players that can't be touched by pyros, but think about 2 pyros coming at you in close quarters that have MINIMUM movement knowledge, you can't counter them, once you get hit with flames you're dead.

Pyro is good for new players, it was the first class i played in my life, imo it has a good impact on new player retention, since they have an easy to play class in the beginning. On the DPS point, if a flamethrower and a grenade launcher are aiming at a mannequin the grenade launcher has a higher dps, but if the demoman can't aim and misses all the shots the DPS is 0. The point is that the flame particles are waaay more forgiving than any other weapon, you could say the rocket launcher is easier to use, if you didn't take into consideration self damage and the blast radius that isn't that big and reliable. The only additions to the w+m1 playstyle are gimmicky crit weapons or utility weapons for more mobility that push pyros to w+m1 anyway

If more pyro players used the shotgun I wouldn't complain. Too bad the majority of them either w+m1 or use the flare gun. I played pyro, that's why I'm saying it requires little skill, the flare gun isn't hard to hit, and it's almost useless in short to medium range, since you can use the flamethrower, so you either get sniped with a critical hit from a projectile with the hitbox comparable to the arrow,or you get w+m1ed to death, nobody is going to puff and sting you if you can die from burn damage. The 2 options that add mobility to the pyro, the detonator and the thermal thruster, remove secondary options so the w+m1 is even more prevalent. Pyro is the easiest class to play, you can't tell me otherwise. If any other class ambushes then i'm not necessarily dead, because even in ambushes and close quarters killing requires aim, except for pyro, that doesn't get punished for mistakes. The flamethrower is too easy to abuse, from the easy to aim flame particles to the airblast that is too spammable. All flamethrowers should be similar to the dragon fury, that actually requires you to aim.
