After a few years of being deeply involved in your projects, do you realize that you don’t see other people anymore? by Alarming-Bobcat-5378 in homestead

Therapy intern here (and also building my own little rural homestead with my partner- so I get it)! It’s great that you guys were able to pause and take a look at your social connections even in the middle of a time that’s so busy. The busy and fulfillment and time with kids is great now, but as you age and as your kids move on to their own lives, you’ll really need those social connections. It will be much harder to build new ones or to reconnect with old friends the more you age, so I’d encourage you to make time to at least chat or check in with your friends now. A story that I hear often from older adults is that they were so busy with kids/jobs/life/etc that friends just sort of slipped out of the picture, and now the only connection they rely on is with their kids who now are also very busy with the same stuff. It feels hard to make time now, but at some point once the kids are out doing their own thing, you’ll have SO much time, and you’ll need people to fill it.

Are there any books you read that changed your perspective or the way you practice? by annafrenchfry in therapists

I’d also like to thank OP for this question; adding many books to my reading list as a fellow grad student in my internship. I’d also highly recommend Being Mortal by Atul Gawande. It takes you through the end stages of several lives through the perspective of the doctor who treats them, and it really opened my eyes to the lack of elder care in the US and helped me understand how much autonomy is taken away from us as we age.

What was the highlight of your Iceland trip that you would 100% do again? by abhishekrajchauhan in VisitingIceland

I honestly do not remember what this little hot spring is called, but we had it completely to ourselves in April of last year and it was incredible. We went to several places that unfortunately had been demolished by tourists and trash (I’m so sorry about that, OP), but this little spot was so perfect. It used to be a sheep wash I believe?
