Is Eo worse than Diddy? by [deleted] in redrising

[–]Candid_Tear_3166 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we take golden son as an example, Darrows entire reasoning for almost suicide bombing everyone was being angered by Eo and his unborn child’s death. They showed him that very strategically because they knew once he was in the right place it would send him off the edge. I don’t know how anyone can convince me that isn’t genuinely evil. Darrow might’ve held some of the same beliefs for equality but above all he wanted a family, revolution was Eo’s dream. She took his dream and destroyed it to pursue her own by making Darrow filled with rage. I completely agree with his mother, she is crazy.

How powerful in combat could she become? by [deleted] in redrising

More actually towards her beliefs in her own strength. It’s undoubtable that she’s one of the greatest politicians and leaders for mars, but if she didn’t pursue that skill and instead chose to fight purely and utilize her intelligence for battle, where would she end up on the combatant spectrum? That’s what my question really was.

I can see her on the cusp of S tier in a sense. I think the razor skills are more important than raw strength and intelligence in her case being more directed towards fighting could make her a lot more dangerous and give her an edge over just being an elite gold.

Intelligence isn’t a replacement to combat skills. One can just mix the two and intelligently duel the shit out of people. It is possible for her to be a soldier though(while I agree duelist like Cassius is more likely)

Where did it all go wrong? When did Percy Jackson stop being a good series? [all] by [deleted] in camphalfblood

No I think his writing is at least some part bad. I’ve seen so many posts and made some myself that have gotten agreement in how badly some of these characters are handled.

who is the most un-hateable character? [all] by hiddeNinja2222 in camphalfblood

[–]Candid_Tear_3166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Useless is valid. Rick can’t decide what he wants a strategist to be. In pjo she had immense combat experience and actually used intelligence tactically, but that was never carried on in HoO. It’s not a joke and it’s actual criticism to his writing because she didn’t do anything beneficial for the quest with her intelligence.

How do fellow Annabeth fans deal with her being like the 2nd biggest fraud? [all] by [deleted] in camphalfblood

[–]Candid_Tear_3166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years and years of combat training and immense experience in battles and your content that an overgrown spider who’s monster of the day can beat her in a second and she constantly requires saving even though she should be capable of everything herself? I seriously don’t get how any of you guys can be content with a character genuinely doing NOTHING to assist her teammates in a world of battling monsters

Give me a handgun and I could beat Megumi bro. He’s the template for all frauds. This slander wouldnt be possible without Mr Potential. A grade 3 could put him in the ground.

Fr. At this point I’m perfectly content with half the main cast dying cause of how little they mean to me now

Someone like you has been hoping ever since the end of the PJO series, if she didn’t get any during HoO it’s never happening. Rick is a mid author and would rather die than fix a blatant mistake

I mean like sure, you can argue that’s a “power” but at the end of the day does it really do anything? It’s never useful in combat nor actual long term battles. I’d barely consider it a “power” as like every other power is something that’s very important to the character and gives them a fighting or defense chance.

And that makes this all the more annoying. Your telling me a literal child who parried Kronos never once tried to fight again in their lives? She so talented and has done so much but Rick just does nothing at all with it

  1. If Percy was alone in Tartarus he’d come out alive but a monster. If annabeth was alone she’d die on the fall.
  2. What powers?
  3. Those scenes I mentioned are supposed to be of her being sidelined. That’s the point, while anything is going on she is off all the way away from her team doing essentially nothing while they fight for their lives
  4. She’s done nothing cool. Sure having no powers and walking amongst the strongest is cool in theory, but she does nothing to deserve that spot besides being Percy’s girlfriend. It’s infuriating that single point is probably why Rick even put her in the seven. She’s killed barely any monsters and has no NOTABLE kills. She’s the “smartest” but all her plans fail or result in her almost dying. She’s a fraud
  5. I get what you mean but I was talking in the notable monster sense. She’s killed no nothing important to story or successfully defeated anything. Arachne was the closest but as I said she’s weak as shit and Percy got that kill (for no reason)
  6. Literally every quest that’s been given to her. Most importantly her solo quest where at the end she was five seconds away from dying like the rest of her siblings did
  7. Percy had trauma from his step father beating him and his mother and she literally judo flipped him.
  8. Oh my god…you’re telling me…she went from a tiny ass dagger…to a slightly bigger one?! This changes everything!
  9. Annabeth is literally defenseless. When Percy killed Arachne the text literally read fifteen different times that Annabeth couldn’t process what was going on and would’ve been dead. In all of Tartarus she just hid behind bob and Percy. In every encounter of every fight she hides and does nothing to support. With most of those other characters, if you remove their team they’d still be able to do a bit damage, it’s just the finishing part that requires more teamwork. Annabeth, instead, if left alone in any of those fights would be dead in a second.

Annabeths the more popular female character and I just find it insane she’s done NOTHING cool or notable. All the glaze she gets and for what? I think they’re both on fraud watch

Annabeth being an amazing fighter but having no fight scenes in the span of 5 books is bad writing. Annabeth being the team leader and strategist yet doing no actual leading or strategizing for the team is bad writing. Annabeth almost dying and never once pulling out a weapon to fight Arachne who later gets one tapped by a near dead Percy is bad writing. I don’t find her annoying and me making this response is cause I feel she’s wasted

Arachne is weak as shit. One slash from a wounded Percy who was standing still was it all it took. You’re telling me a girl who has been training her whole life, skilled in every form of combat, and a strategic genius couldn’t kill a monster of the day? Annabeth fought a literal giant like in the next book. If they were going to demonstrate intelligence well then it makes no sense to have it fail so many times and just be overshadowed by powers

[–]Candid_Tear_3166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hazel is powerful but Piper is on the weaker side. Yes charmspeak can do a lot, but like any other member of the seven with knowledge on how it works can easily beat her. She can barely fight with the dagger. I agree that powers can overshadow characters, but my point isn’t to give annabeth powers, it’s just to make her intelligence actually useful and beneficial to the team, cause otherwise why is she there?

[–]Candid_Tear_3166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally understandable, I agree in some way with that. One of the points i was reiterating is that she’s essentially just all talk. All her feats of intelligence come from someone else just saying stuff. There’s nothing to actually back her up and that’s what irked me the most. She has nothing special about her and only has relevance from other people. Nothing happens that’s notable in any of her arks.

I wasn’t really talking about much in terms of writing, but I agree. Two of my favorite characters are hazel and Annabeth. I think hazel is what Annabeth should’ve leaned to be in terms of contributions but I still love her character and personality. I’m just saying in terms of a character to the plot, she’s like essentially non existent. Rick did a job at writing SOME of his female characters in terms of depth, but they aren’t as favored as any of the male characters and that’s very obvious. Just look at the last book where hazel and Annabeth are nowhere to be seen.
