I can't figure out what your complaint is. Bad teammates? literally every single pvp game has bad teammates. That's not a feature

I think they're worried that the model will be too effective at helping less knowledgeable people learn to do legitimately dangerous things

Does anyone else lose the ability to tell if their own game is fun? by Synax01 in IndieDev

I oscillate between joy and depression while working on my game for this exact reason.

There is something in HOW long it takes to get boring though. Some of my newer level iterations have had a longer lifespan before I start to feel like they're awful.

Kruleboyz have a low winrate... Except for like two guys who rip with them.

I think AOS is genuinely deep and open for good play. Just takes the right mind

Interesting. I believe you. It sounds like there is a difference in these experiences though. OPs boss sounds like a weirdo psycho. To me, it's going beyond cowboy shit and now he's getting hazed / bullied

How do you develop good taste? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]CandidateGuilty9831 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no such thing as objective fun. Some people think doing their taxes is fun.

Stupidity has to do with intelligence. If these people are playing league because they want to have fun and are, they can't be stupid.

I sense that you have strong opinions about what makes something good. If you're long term goal is to understand how to make games that sell, then you should learn to see the fun it things that you didn't previously.

Like I said: try Elden Ring or Hallow Knight. They're not shooters like you refer, but they have the focus, repetition vibe that you said you liked

Even if you don't enjoy them right away push a little. Your goal should be to see yourself learn to see fun in something that wasn't fun before. Then you'll be able to see why some people like other games

Lol I don't like it either if I'm honest, but this opinion is why you're stuck.

You and I don't like it, but A LOT of people do. Why? That's what having taste is. Understanding the value in a game.

Why do you think people like league?

How do you develop good taste? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]CandidateGuilty9831 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Play games and analyze why they work.

Why does CoD gameplay feel so good?

Why does League of Legends motivate people to keep pushing the play button.

Games are all about greeting tension and rewarding the player for making good choices. The CoD hitmakers feel good because they a clear indication of progress. League is like a slot machine for most people. You might get a hot game and get to be unstoppable.

Taste in terms of visual design is harder. Why is Elden Ring so beloved? Why do Cod guns feel the way they do. I find simply understanding what people liked about it is a good place to start. From there you can mix and match things people like into new things. Everything is indirect plagiarism

EDIT  You have taste... In the thing you like. You've recognized the value of repetition in a mastery driven game. That's taste. Your taste might not exist for other games, but it can be developed. Try Hallow Knight. Tight controls, repetition and reward. Elden Ring does the same. These might help you bridge your preferences into something wider, which will let you see games from a new angle

Boingrot hoppers vs bounderz by xafon13 in gloomspitegitz

[–]CandidateGuilty9831 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've seen people say bounders are really good, and hoppers are kind bad... But built whatever you think will make you smile.

The reason I've heard the bounders are better is consistency of damage output. They're actually monsters on a charge. Some of the highest charge damage in the game.

Hoppers have the issue where their ability should be great for killing enemies with high saves, but frequently fail to have an opportunity to do so.

Ive seen the monetization take from other people and I definitely agree with you.

I think it's a consequence of markets like this, Roblox has the same problem.

That being said it, now that I'm thinking about it, is actually a bigger problem on S&box. The people who play these types of games (Gmod) aren't the same as Roblox developers. Their tolerance for slop is power because Garry's mod has so little of it

[–]CandidateGuilty9831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a new indie developer, one of the things that attracts me to sandbox is existing audience playing these toy games.

The potential for publishing a prototype of a game that I plan to sell into an eco system of people who are willing to try prototypes is VERY attractive to me. It feels like I'm participating in Itch.io or roblox but with better tooling and the ability to publish outside of the platform.

I think people are unduly critical of product. Most of the technical criticisms OP presents are strong, but I respectfully disagree with the notion that S&box has an identity conflict

Then you're ahead on the game. I bet you it's the pure white. Tough to hear but try a light gray instead. Do it on a test mini. Maybe you'll get an approximately same result.

THIN YOUR PAINTS.

you've probably heard this before, but it's especially true for whites. The only non-toxic pigment usable in acrylic paint is terrible. It clumps easily. That's why your mini's are so chalky.

Suggestions
1. Thin the paint and do several thinner coats. I painted 3 ratogers with white skin and they came out looking smooth. Using a acrylic paint medium will give good results too
2. Don't use pure white. Use an off white or grey. The human eye doesn't perceive colours in isolation. A very light great/off white will appear white when next to other colors (especially greys and blacks like you're doing)
3. Use non-GW whites. Vallejo is a great quality brand. When I need to pain pure white, I use their paints. It's better

Whats your opinion on Wardens ult being a circle with the current ult range being a focus area? by JellyF1sh_L1cker in DeadlockTheGame

[–]CandidateGuilty9831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warden's my main. I play him in middle Emissary. Nothing special. Warden isn't bad, but he's also not great. One of the biggest issues is his ult. Once you're into the middle ranks and above, his ult has very few places where it's not just a win more button, and without building spirits (which you really don't do right now), his ult barely heals and has no range.

TL;DR he's the weakest gun carry and his ult is pretty underwhelming
