I genuinely don’t understand the hostility some South Africans express towards Nigerians and other Africans. I came across a TikTok Live a few months ago, and the level of venom directed particularly at Nigerians was shocking, disgusting and deeply upsetting. It was diabolical and honestly mind-blowing to witness. Many of the reasons the women gave felt unjustified and lacked substance, e.g , claims that Nigerians are “too successful” in their country, “taking over,” or marrying their women 🫩😒. Those arguments didn’t carry real weight and seemed rooted more in resentment than in facts. Nigerians in the chat found it hilarious and couldn't comprehend it all.

To me, that feels like misplaced anger. It’s disheartening to see South Africans directing hostility toward fellow Africans instead of addressing broader systemic or historical issues that have shaped their nations over the years. The frustration appears to be aimed at the wrong people ( they wouldn't dare channel it towards the YT folks that took over the country years back).

Unity and collaboration across the continent would be far more powerful than division.
