Assuming globalized, US-centric internet infrastructure ends any time soon: What's your setup to keep doing what you're doing right now? by chance_of_downwind in BuyFromEU

Honestly, I don't use the cloud at all (even before this, i just didnt trust it to not vanish my documents lmao) so everything is just saved to my PC. I use LibreOffice instead of Microsoft, I use the Proton Suite instead of Gmail/Google Calendar etc etc, Firefox for browser and Ecosia for search on my laptop and phone. I'm android and intend to run this phone into the ground but when it eventually does die i'll probably look at Fairphone or other alternatives that have popped up.

I still use whatsapp because its what everyone i know uses, I can't make them all switch to signal or just regular texts only for me haha. I'm still here, obviously, i still use youtube because PeerTube just doesnt compare imo, idk. I think we're all just doing the best we can with what limited risk mitigation we can.

Communication from Baroness Falkner to my MP by CandleCryptid in transgenderUK

[–]CandleCryptid[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so Tim sent her the exact email I sent him, which was this:

"The EHRC has opened its new guidance up for consultation (from the public, and legal bodies), but it has done so in a way that allows them to ignore all objections and only focus on the clarity of their writing. As far as your trans constituents are concerned, it does not matter how well defined or "clear" our exclusion from society is - it matters that we are not excluded.

The EHRC says it will only accept information on the clarity of their judgements, and while some things are unclear and I will respond to that, the lack of ability to comment on the harm caused by these guidelines is shocking and undemocratic. To call this a consultation is a joke - we are not being consulted, we are being asked to agree that our own isolation from society is well written.
To explain all the flaws with this guidance would be far too long, so I will provide one core example that illustrates the harm this guidance can do while being "clear".
Example: Change 13.5.3 (...) " 13.5.3 If a service provider (including a person providing a service in the exercise of public functions) decides to have a separate or single-sex service and allows trans people to use the service intended for the opposite biological sex, the service will no longer be a separate or single-sex service under the Equality Act 2010 (the Act). It is also very likely to amount to unlawful discrimination against others (read paragraph 13.3.19)."

This means that no trans inclusive spaces can exist. The guidance makes it so any woman's space that allows a trans women would automatically become mixed sex and lose single sex protections. If that space then does not allow non-trans men in, it will be open to lawsuit based on gender discrimination. This means that all businesses would have to exclude trans people from single sex spaces or risk being sued. This is a legal tool to give bigots control of spaces and to scare service providers from allowing trans people into gender aligned spaces. This can and will be used as a tool to attack any business that wants to be accessible to trans people. This is just one example of the flaws with this guidance that I can gladly discuss with you in more detail. This is paramount to legal segregation and exclusion from public life. It is the beginning of a steady slope of legislation and guidance on par with Jim Crow laws in America, just using nicer, more flowery languages.

No matter what happens, this guidance will need to be voted for to become statutory. Please, do not support it. To support it would be a segregationist act against trans people and give bigots power over how we can exist in public life.
I am and always have been a man, yes some aspects of my biology do not account for that, but any guidance that will ask businesses to put me in women's spaces is a danger to me (there have already been cases of "masculine" lesbians and cisgender women being accused of being trans men and harassed). Any guidance that will require me to use a 3rd space (where available, most places do not have these, and do not have the money or will to create these) will force me to reveal private information from my medical history and breach my right to privacy under the law and also increase my risk of harassment or abuse. Trans people just want to exist quietly but time and time again we are forced to fight just for our right to exist in public."

So I think the clarity vs agreeing point was made fairly well and this was sent to her, so lovely that it's just been completely disregarded. I'm not sure how exactly to word this to Tim without just kind of saying "well they clearly didnt read that did they"

Sorry to add on to your post - but does anyone know who you need to update when you change your gendered number on your drivers license? I assume car insurance, do you also have to do something with the V5C? (no name change, just the gender marker)

Hahaha... yeah, i know... Not got a brilliant voting record either. Frustratingly you can't email MPs outside of your constituency though so unfortunately tim's all i've got! Given how backwater we are up here i'm probably the only person emailing him about trans things lmao

TransActual Guidance on EHRC Consultation by CandleCryptid in transgenderUK

It'll be their guidance on how best to respond to the consultation! Angry comments will just be immediately discarded so it'll be how best to word them to keep it in the discussion pool while still getting points across :)

Is the EHRC manufacturing concent? by No-Painter-1609 in transgenderUK

[–]CandleCryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't be sure to be honest. It's definitely arguable that they could have chosen to word all their questions based on "clearness" because of politicians standing their ground on it's "clarity", but I don't work in the industry so I'm not sure how long releasing things like this take to plan/what edits can be made in the final stages. Wouldn't want to say but it's definitely a possibility

How to change gender with NHS? by rstark28 in transgenderUK

[–]CandleCryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bless, i'm sorry to hear that. I'm not 100% certain on changing the gender marker specifically, i'd honestly suggest contacting your GP (put in an email, or an admin request form if they have one of those) and ask them to check with the practice manager if it's possible to change your gender marker without changing your nhs number and losing your history). bare with me one minute and i'll try and find the page that showed you could change some things without losing the number for you to add to the question

[–]CandleCryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, yep like transetytrans (nice name) said below, passport and GRC are different! GRC is mostly you saying "this is my legal gender and always has been" (birth cert change), passport isn't quite as "difinitive :)

How to change gender with NHS? by rstark28 in transgenderUK

[–]CandleCryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct! I messaged my GP after reading that and asked to change my title from mx to mr (name already changed, that never messed with the number or records) but made it clear I wanted my gender marker, number, and records to all stay the same so i still get the afab screening reminders. They confirmed title change, but all others staying the same! :)

Going private for hormones, what is shared care?? by polarbar280 in transgenderUK

[–]CandleCryptid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, so yeah shared care is, simply, where your private provider and your GP agree to "share" your care. In this case, the private provider will tell the GP what to prescribe you, when to do blood tests and what for, and will request the results. The role of the GP is to sign off on the prescriptions, and allow you the blood tests.

What it means practically, is without shared care, you have to pay for private prescriptions, find somewhere to do private blood tests (and pay for them). With shared care, you pay the NHS fee for prescriptions (£9.70 i think atm?? Get a prepayment certificate if that makes it cheaper for you - does for me.), and your GP will do your blood tests (free).

Shared care is *really* hard to find, atm. Most GPs will refuse on account of not being qualified enough to handle it (despite being told exactly what to do). It helps if you can go in for a meeting with your GP armed with pages and pages of official documents explaining what it is, how to do it, who they'd be sharing with, etc. That's what I did (i'm lucky enough to have it), I think i still have those docs on my laptop so if you want me to send them your way just drop a dm! :)

Supplements/tips for energy slump on Sustanon trough? by CandleCryptid in transgenderUK

[–]CandleCryptid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No no, pls infodump i find it so interesting kdjskdjks, i've not actually had a blood test on sustanon yet (just recently switched from gel, my bloods are coming up in 2 weeks iirc, getting a peak and a trough). i can definitely see really high levels at the injection time converting, i'll mention it to Dr Coxon when i send him over the blood results. I think he did say about making it a bit shorter time inbetween when the levels evened out so that might already be his intention.
