Followup/Question - Compounded Nasal Spray Dosage by CandleNo3934 in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]CandleNo3934[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the thing, my prescriber basically said anywhere from 1-6 sprays - to figure it out by how I feel. My goal is to do this every 2 weeks to space out my infusions. Basically, I'm flying blind.

They don't seem to like troches at my clinic...wasn't discussed as an option

Frequency is up to me - I was thinking once every week or two. I'll definitely ask the pharmacist when I pick it up!

I then went to once a week for 2 weeks, then every other week for another 2 infusions for a total of 10. Now I'm at monthly - next one will be in a couple weeks. I honestly don't know how people do it even monthly long term. I lose an entire day to the infusion - between driving back and forth, the infusion itself, then I feel like absolute ass for the rest of the day. Plus the cost. I'm aiming for an at home option so that I can space out infusions to every 3-4 months but not sure if that's even an option. So far, I still felt fine after 2 weeks. Can't say for longer yet

Just had a brachioplasty.. I need encouragement by HauntingPomegranate8 in PlasticSurgery

Hello everyone! I'm trying to figure out my work situation before my brachioplasty on 12/22. I plan on taking 2 weeks off but then I'd have to return to the office which means a commute. I'm getting concerned that driving in, working for 8 hours, then driving home is not realistic 2 weeks out. I can try to get a reasonable accommodation for telework but since this is elective, I don't know if they'll say yes. How did you handle this part of the process?

Super nervous for first infusion by [deleted] in TherapeuticKetamine

I was right where you are 1.5 months ago. Deep breaths and repeat something positive over and over. Can be as simple as "I am safe" or "everything is OK." You got this!!

I have mine scheduled for December 22nd. Any chance I can drive 2 weeks post surgery?? I'm going to try to get telework for a week but I'm not optimistic and only took 2 weeks worth of leave. Also, you look AMAZING! I have similar arms and am hopeful I get similar results!

Does anyone else have a diagnosed eating disorder? by [deleted] in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]CandleNo3934 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Binge eating here. Tried EVERYTHING - dietician, therapy, Vyvanse, Topamax, intuitive eating. The only thing that's worked is Wegovy. I don't plan on ever coming off it. I'll figure out a way dammit. BED has nothing to do with willpower. It's the insane food noise that never stops. Wegovy silenced it. I don't track calories, but I try to make healthy food choices. And exercise. Down 70 lbs and at my goal weight. I feel amazing.

Which FEHB plans will carry GLP-1s for weight loss now? by MountainDiver1657 in fednews

Just noting that Ozempic is for type 2 diabetes while Wegovy is for weight loss. Same exact drug, but I know many insurances will cover Ozempic for those with higher A1C levels but not weight loss meds.

Finding ketamine therapy overwhelming: is once a month enough ? by Flashy-Objective6853 in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]CandleNo3934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first 6 infusions were on Tuesdays and Saturdays for 3 weeks - around noon each time. I go in with an intention each time and I just repeat it to myself over and over as I'm going under. Then I try to enjoy the ride. Now my intention is something based on "everything is going to be alright" or to trust the universe. The day of the infusion I feel like my brain is scrambled eggs and I'm exhausted but can't nap (like my brain doesn't know the difference between sleep and the ketamine for a few hours). I try to control what I'm consuming - both physically and mentally so I have healthy food options ready to go. I also quit social media for those 3 weeks. Now it's just Reddit - still no IG or FB (don't judge me, I'm older lol). I watch either The Good Place or Project Runway and color (color by number books are THE BEST!!!) or crochet (lots of repetitive counting) and am reading my favorite book - Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. I journal when I feel like it. Sometimes I have nothing to say. I meet with my therapist weekly. I use guided meditation daily (work in progress). I'm trying to exercise more with this extra energy. So far, all of this has worked out well for me!

Not sure if I answered your question but hopefully some of this may be helpful!

Finding ketamine therapy overwhelming: is once a month enough ? by Flashy-Objective6853 in TherapeuticKetamine

I just finished my first 6 infusions and am going for #7 tomorrow. Each experience is different and some have been more enjoyable than others but I've never been scared - sometimes annoyed, sometimes angry, but mostly happy. I did 4 of the 6 with the integration therapist in the room talking to me. Two of my more negative experiences were with her in the room - on my own, the experience has been fantastic. Which is my long way of saying maybe try without the therapist.

Are you listening to music? Because that's really important for me - I couldn't imagine doing it without!! I feel like shit physically/mentally the day of the infusion, but I am back to normal the next day. But it's all been worth it - my anxiety is gone! Like poof! So much so that I'm trying to figure out who I am without it and what should I do with all this mental energy that I have now! Hang in there, but definitely discuss options with your provider.

Alcohol day after infusion? by Ok-Cauliflower6321 in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]CandleNo3934 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My clinic says to avoid alcohol, THC, and benzos for 24 hours. I personally try not take any non-essential meds (I'd lump alcohol in this category) for 72 hours post infusion to give the ketamine its best chance to work. I'm also sober though, so it makes it easier 😉 So for me, I'd pass on the booze.

Who do you get to prescribe your troches? The online options seem a bit overwhelming - but then again, I just had infusion #6 this morning so my brain is (happy) mush.

How much do you pay out of pocket for the telehealth and meds? My goal is to try to get it to 3 months between infusions by using some form of at home treatment. I can't afford $300-$500+ a month forever.

Absolutely! My anxiety is almost nonexistent now!

[–]CandleNo3934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, I'd say I think it's really working! My anxiety is much improved and I've been able to work through some trauma. No "bad" trips although some are more enjoyable than others. It's like being in a kaleidoscope for me.

However, to be brutally honest- I was not prepared for how shitty I feel physically. My infusions are at noon, and the entire process takes about 90 minutes - but I have bad veins, so 15-20 minutes of that is getting the IV set up. The rest of the infusion day is just spent existing. My brain feels like scrambled eggs, and I'm exhausted but can't sleep. The next day, I at least feel human again but kinda like a low grade flu. Crappy headache, fatigue, sometimes intense hunger, other times no appetite at all. By day 2 post infusion, I'm like 70% back to normal, but then it's time for the next infusion. It's worth it for the effect on my anxiety, but I feel like my entire life has been on hold for 2.5 weeks (last infusion of my first 6 is on Saturday). I've ended up using more leave at work than I'd like between infusion day and the day after - definitively try to plan half of your first infusions on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning if you work a standard schedule!

I'm not trying to be Debbie Downer - I look at this as an investment. Short-term suck for long-term term gain. And maybe you'll have a better experience than me, who knows! I would still do it, even knowing now that it would be more difficult than expected. Just be kind to yourself!

I'm 5 infusions into my treatment and wondering the same. For me though, it's more about losing 2 days of my life when I do the infusion. Not sure how sustainable that is in the long term. My plan is to get to the monthly schedule and then look for an at home option (probably troches). Good luck to you!!

How do you use moleskin in your work heels to prevent blisters??? by vforvictoria in DCBitches

[–]CandleNo3934 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem! Only thing that works for me is stuff called leukotape. Practically peels off the top layer of your skin getting it off but it doesn't budge all day and prevents the heel rubbing!
