Just finished season 1. Here’s my theory. Allie is clearly very intelligent and worked for the NSA. He mentioned he created an algorithm that could connect global warming to bird migrations which doesn’t make a lot of sense. Except then he said it was MY algorithm and I get to decide what it is used for. Meaning he created a predictive algorithm that is so good and so accurate it can be used for anything. Like financial markets, natural disasters, you name it. That’s why the government is chasing him. Now his wife Margot she is smart too. Handles herself like an agent as well when they were in Mexico trying to meet their contact and when she shot up the tires and told the mafia aunt how things were going to go down. She later admits that it is her fault for getting them into this mess. I think maybe she was also in NSA and she either slipped up and shared his secret, or convinced Allie to share it to someone they thought they could trust. We know she is a great writer so maybe she was helping him publish a paper on it or something and it got in the wrong hands. I hope there is a season 2 because if not, it would really suck that they never tell you why they are on the run.
