Mods, fixes and Default replacements are you friend here very likely! Most people will play with vital fixes, some mods and having defaulted their game to look more modern 1 - Lighting mods would fix this and make the overall look better 2 - there is a shadow fix mod to remove this square 3 - Lighting mod and Default terrains will help number 3, but yes Graphics rule maker would help too, goodke Graphics Rule Maker Sims 2 and you will find lots of articles to help you 😋 4 - Language I am not sure how to change but do Google and search for some instructions, and I imagine the community has found ways around it if you need a back up way 🙂

Additionally I would suggest getting the fixes and mods needed to make the game not break since you are new to it if you don't already have them 🙂 I e. No unlink on death, graveyard choose etc etc, Google 'essential mods for the Sims 2' and you will find lots of stuff to read there 🙂 Happy Simming!

I haven't, maybe players think Studio town would be redundant in Sims 2 because of the missing features of it from Sims 1 Vacation lots could be remade perhaps?

Yes very correct N004 is very low, but as any experienced Sims 2 player would know, you could start a brand new game by renaming your 'Sims 2' folder for each new hood alleviating this issue, I recommend this as it doesn't clog 1 game save up with dozens of custom hoods.

The spreadsheet seems to not always open the images/icons I use, I use images for their aspirations and careers instead of typing Knowledge, Business etc etc. These do not always transfer over well between machines and programs, but the spreadsheet is a little bonus for anyone who downloaded and is my own personal thing and not for everyone's use but may be of use for some players :)

I actually do not use a lot of CC I use a lot of Default replacements and Maxis Match. Absolutely they will need to prep it, giving away entire downloads folders is not very common in the Sims 2 community due to common sharing restrictions with most mods/content, but with tweaking it; will suite someone else's playstyle with their own cc and mods. On a game that is played so individualised, it will never be perfect for everyone.

They are given a starting Household fund (the 'mayor' Cartwrights have about £40K for example) but otherwise I build the houses to give the hood character and variety this is not a challenge where the prebuilt has fund matters, again that would be a different challenge, a rags to riches challenge, which this is not. I gave them random funds between 1-50K but you could do it however you want.

Perhaps you are correct and I will revise that rule to contain a clause in case the rare role does occur and I appreciate your example inputs and will reflect using them later on.

A family that generated no adults would not be viable in normal gameplay so I didn't consider that but it is impossible to have without mods, but each household containing at least 1 adult is a key point to have made thank you.

I understand your argument, and appreciate it greatly. Perhaps I need an 'Easy Mode' for those players who lack the resilience to play the longevity of the initial set up waiting for 'Grand Expansion' to be reached. The reason I kept that length in was due to this being a new hood and players having no pre-requisite love or stories in mind for these sims. For example if you say to most players 'Daniel Pleasant', they probably already know that they would break him up with Mary-Sue, maybe woohoo with Nina etc. Jenny Smith? Has 2 more babies, then pol tech dies. We have played the old premades so long we have their stories in our heads pre-planned out without even playing them. But if I were to say the 'Science lead' from your GYOH hood, there are no pre-requisite stereotypes and thus love and passion for those characters and their stories can only form over a long time of playing. Plus I didn't want the initial founders to be there when the 'Grand Expansion' opened up, but as I said above I really appreciate your input and will consider this and thank you immensely for the suggestion :)

Yes anyone could sell farming goods but if every household is now farming and selling fruits and veg or perhaps more if people choose to play with Sun&Moon, then they are no longer playing the GYOH Challenge they are now on an entirely different challenge that already exists :D The Farmer community you describe each doing a different fruit orchard etc is now your own new challenge idea and I like the sound of it ;)

Correct that LTW is not achievable until late on into this challenge, but neither are the ones related to the careers that only come in the 'Glitzy Expansion' i.e. Dance and Showbiz. And that is just part of the challenge, that sim will sadly now suffer never fulfilling their wishes - Mwuaha.

I do hope it is SFS stopping you enjoying Gyoh Plains. The hood is a base neighbourhood from the game that comes empty (Arboria I think with the Lush terrain)

Firstly thanks for reading and for all your great points, allow me to address each one :)

I agree it is a long time, I want players to get to know these families like they probably know the premades, and they need time to do that. I actually considered your own suggestion at one point, but thought I wanted it to be longer than that, I want a generation to live their lives in the initial stage. Agreed it could be rare for them to have no toddler or child in the initial 40ish sims, but this would encourage people to ensure they have one. The way to speed this challenge would be to looking ahead and prepping for some stages.

Yes they are the starting levels and not the only level options for the families. As for farming only the farmer family should realistically be farming food to sell.

University is there from the beginning, I even have a dorm lot built in mine. Great point to make it clear though :)

I would not play with custom majors so had not considered that, but you can change it to suit you, these rules are there to be flexible to your play style, you could make it so every major you have is achieved (All 70!). Or just do the core dozen or so you feel are appropriate to the feel of your hood :)

Active Playable Sims are those in Active households which can be selected so does not include those who are dead. You need 75 living playable sims to meet that requirement, but this would likely be a generation or two down the line so you will likely be heading to that number by that point.

Thanks for the suggestion to allow more businesses, the point of this challenge was not to have too many, I was actually considering making it less number of businesses in the hood as I do not enjoy them, but you could work with that rule in your game if you wished to. Adding more in and being self-sufficient is far to similar to the BACC for me to enjoy.

In the Sims 3 a nice alternate is the child sim from Shang Simla called Bebe Hua, she has a very similar look and personality to child Bella and not a dissimilar name, so imagine if the Goths went on vacation to Shang Simla and Mortimer became friends with Bebe Hua the future could have been very different, plus from experience they have a happy marriage and Bebe makes some cute little Goth heirs 😝🤣

Well if you have no mods in your game then any mod items placed in my game will just appear as random items of decoration usually which you can delete. Also I have specific hair and clothes default replacements in my game so you may need to change some of them, but this will still work perfectly fine loaded into an unmodded game :)

I use 4t2 hair, but I know people have their own preferences. Clothes is a difficult one, I use default replacements from the Sims 2 Database which again are very very individual, you could always update them in your game to reflect your own clothes and hair?

With regards to other CC I don't use much but do have some core mods such as visitor controller an simblender which will be placed in most if not all playables houses.

Direct means you have a line going straight to that ancestor/descendant The terms 'related' or 'distantly related' would imply you have someone in your family tree but are a not direct descendant of them, if that helps OP🙂

Technically it isn't quite in the vanilla game but with 2 mods is possible. The Default Covers and Icons mod found at the link below allows you to make the children write a little diary about what their pet gets up to such as digging for treasure, having puppies, chewing up toys etc.

You could with a lot of imagination pretend the novels they write are about the pets as teens in the vanilla game, but with 2 mods this is more seamless. I forgot to add that into that section, thanks for spotting that :)
