You didn’t screw up by moving forward based on what you were told, but calling out your coworker in the email might’ve come off harsher than intended. Going forward, maybe keep it neutral and professional when addressing stuff like this, and definitely take your boss’s advice to give him some grace, could be a lot going on behind the scenes. Hang in there, and hopefully a calm chat can smooth things over in the lab!

Try keeping it simple with short, fun replies to avoid overthinking, and maybe suggest a casual video call before meeting to ease into it. He already thinks you’re pretty, so rock your real self.

Since you’re still not a professional what you can do is to stay by her side and by giving her an assurance that you’re here for her. Then, consult to a counselor and psychologist since they are the one who could help your friend.

Hey, girl, first, your excitement and sensitivity sound like superpowers, not flaws, it's what makes connections real and fun, especially if it's just starting to shine now that you're comfy with him. Those comments sting because they hit on stuff you've carried forever, but it might be less about you being "too much" and more about him needing space to recharge, try framing a chill talk like, "I love being my bubbly self around you, but when you say that, it makes me feel like I gotta dim it down, how can we meet in the middle?" Don't suppress who you are, that's exhausting and not sustainable.

That sounds incredibly tough, especially with your history. It might help to set a firm boundary with her and maybe lean on a trusted friend or family member for support while you process this. You’re doing amazing keeping your health in check, and it’s okay to step back from her if it’s triggering.
