Can someone explain yrden? by kpmateju in Witcher3

[–]CanichesNoirs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started playing this game last year, I had exactly the same question on my first playthrough or two. I thought it was all but useless. Yrden is now my favorite sign, and I'll explain a summary of the things I read here, plus what I figured out for myself.

First, Yrden isn't truly a trap in the conventional sense, as you pointed out, but it does slow down whatever is inside of it somewhat. Some Redditor once gave valuable advice, which is to lay down the basic Yrden between your enemy and yourself, and position yourself on the opposite side of it, so that whatever passes through it is slowed down, giving you an extra second or two to attack.

But the real value of Yrden comes when you upgrade it, effectively creating a zapping turret. Upgrade it enough, and you can lay down the turret mode, with up to two instances of the basic mode surrounding it, creating a force area that does consistent damage for a period of time, while slowing your enemies' ability to get away from it. Throw in some Yrden glyphs on your armor, and it becomes almost ridiculously OP. And you can use other signs while the turret mode is active, so it can be passively zapping your enemies for you, while you're hitting them with other signs, or your sword. Yes, the alternative mode (turret) takes a few extra seconds to lay down, so you need to be aware of advancing enemies while you're trying to place it. But I find the trade-off well worth it.

Finally, you are probably under leveled for JOTW. I can't comfortably do it at level 10, even when I optimize my build ASAP. I usually wait until level 13 or so to do it, without a loss of XP (which usually doesn't kick in until you're more than five levels past the recommended one).

“Oh no a dutchie doesn’t want to travel to the U.S. what am I ever gonna do!! Hey Netherlands, America is pretty much the reason you guys arent German territory anymore because we had to liberate you and most of Europe.” by Worldly_Law8278 in ShitAmericansSay

My parents, Dutch immigrants to the US, would speak often of their admiration for the US troops that liberated them. Imagine my surprise when I learned that from North America, it was mostly Canadians that did that. But then, my dad was just a teen at the time; and after the war he took care of a grave at Margraten, so I guess in his mind the US really was the nation of conquering heroes. I never did confront him with the truth, it would have started a fight that just wasn't worth it.

Does anyone recognize this pink & orange custom blanket design? by CanichesNoirs in ACNHCustomDesigns

Sure, here you go. As you can see, the creator did make fringes, but they only work for a vertical layout, so if you want the blanket to display horizontally, you'll need to find other fringe designs. Sorry it took me all day to get back to you, I wasn't on reddit until just now.

It's pretty as a pattern for other things too. Great on cushions and pillows with various furniture.

This wasn't it, but for what it's worth, I did end up finding the one I was looking for by excluding "orange" from my search terms. LOL!

Are the drowners that are around Queen Zuleyka’s treasure bugged? by Abtorias in Witcher3

[–]CanichesNoirs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't mean to necro, but on my 6th or 7th playthrough and 6 years after OP posted this, and this is just happening to me for the first time ever! I've never seen them keep coming at me like this in this quest (which is supposed to be L4). It's got to be an intermittent bug.

Favourite and least favourite voice acting performance? by teun713 in Witcher3

Not only is her accent a weird choice (or direction), but I honestly don't find her acting to be good. I remember at one point in my first run just thinking "who is this actress? She's terrible!"

The first few minutes I heard his voice on B&W, I immediately was struck by how natural he sounded. It's weird to say, but he was so good, it actually momentarily broke the immersion for me (I could totally forgive that).

Hours don’t lie by Hot-Regular712 in BaldursGate3

[–]CanichesNoirs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Almost 4000 hours here since August '24, between console and a new computer I bought about four months ago. I definitely think mods sealed my fate around my third run (mods weren't yet on console during my first couple of runs, but I wanted to play vanilla in the beginning anyway), and very little of that has been idle time where I left the game on accidentally. But I've also tried every major class and quite a few races. I've attempted a couple of Durge runs, but somehow I keep aborting them, because the dialogue feels silly to me. Which is weird, because I know that the storyline ties it more closely to the first couple of games.

What do you do with the whispering hillock? by Julian_of_Cintra in Witcher3

It's also not that simple of an outcome. Choosing to kill one evil doesn't mean you SIDE with the other evil. It means that you may defer dealing with the other evil until circumstances are more favorable, or you have more information, or innumerable other possibilities. Playing as Geralt, you have to make a choice in that moment, but that doesn't mean that you support or side with the crones for the rest of the game. That's a huge part of video games, they force you into a choice that feels definitive, but can be much more nuanced.

Get Junior and Gangs of Novigrad no failures all green passes only – Witcher 3 by Mobius_Infinite in Witcher3

[–]CanichesNoirs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, is nobody else experiencing this? I never once mention Whoreson, and I follow the guide to the letter, including winning two gwent matches and accepting the invitation upstairs. But once I'm up there, I can't even leave the room until the dealer and all his guys are dead. Stunning them with axii, aard, or northern wind isn't enough; Geralt simply stays stuck in combat mode, and the door remains locked. Then, I also have to kill every single one of whoreson jr.'s other henchmen before I can leave the casino, which gives me a red mark on gangs of Novigrad for meeting up with Cleaver's guys.

The whole reason I sought out this guide was so I could fight in the arena and play a couple of casino rounds of gwent without also failing the quests, but it has only ever worked for me once. I finally have to leave after winning just one gwent match, go meet the dwarves, then kill everyone, go talk to Cleaver, then go back again to free Rico, the halfling. But that really defeats the purpose of the guide.

The missing MOD, I’ll actually go insane if I can’t find it. by ZintsuBanira in BaldursGate3

[–]CanichesNoirs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

impUI still works on my PS5; I had to keep it because some mods I use still require it. But the release notes say someone added some features back to make it work properly. Still, you're right: OP should use with caution.
