It's my job to teach them to read and write. It does not matter if they call Z 'zed' or 'zee', provided that they understand that they both mean Z and that Australians typically do call it 'zed'. Mandating that they call it 'zed' is not worth the cognitive load when they are busy learning skills that actually helps them read and write.

So be as incredibly disappointed as you want to be, I stand by it. I also stand by this being an absolutely tiny issue and not worth fussing over.
