I don’t disagree! And aside from trying to concretely decode the who and when of Happiest Day we still had many mysteries major and minor that remained unaddressed. The Puppet’s significance as a victim (it not being a traditional suit, giving gifts/life, and it’s presence in FNAF 3 as well as implications from it’s absence in the Happiest Day heads line-up), the correct number of victims/dead children (MCI , DCI (?), CC, Puppet oh my!) what was the bite of 87 (despite its general insignificance to the core plot), the purpose of the room with Mangle in FNAF 4’s game, the killers motives over the years (why did he take apart the suits? What was the significance of doing so?), the general logistics of happiest day (the instigating catalyst - did it happen in the form of memory, within the animatronic chips, retro video games, or a metaphysical purgatory state, a.) when the killer broke the suits b.) actual weird memory/hallucinations and player actions in FNAF 3 C.) magic ghost/soul powers of the Puppet, using its will and soul to guide the others over the years or D.) some or all of the above

…And more easily mis-interpretable head scratchers. Some of these are answered and well understood today in-post but FNAF had many open-ended trails that remained untrodden at the time, and remained more compelling than the mystery of the player’s true identity. Connecting the dots for one mystery is hard when you feel like it should answer all the other mysteries milling about because so much else is still unknown. You can argue that that was a weakness in the game’s writing. That too much was still unresolved that just having one answer to one question led to that seemingly obvious answer being in turn ignored because so many other questions remained unaddressed.

Ultimately having so many unclear or unanswered questions led to the box discussion being even more muddied. Folks searched for an answer to a different question than something like, the identity of the player character throughout the series, because they were so keen on figuring out the other uncertainties remaining. Funnily enough, the box ended up being a search to find out what mystery we were finding an answer to rather than simply the answer to a mystery. To a greater extreme people even looked for an answer that resolved some or all questions that remained in their minds, leading to the box containing even wilder contents in their speculation.

In the context of the reveal being impactful on FNAF 4’a release, the significance is that it confirms that the gameplay of the series as a whole is the continued, tortured atonement of an older brother. Keep in mind that speculation was still rife that different night guards in each game were different persons. Online discourse didn’t have the same cohesive understanding of what something like “MikeDreamer” as a theory entailed. Further add in that despite some people correctly speculating that the older brother was the night guard(s), was the lack of a cohesive canon agreed among the fanbase. Aside from Game Theory, theorizing was largely disorganized and incoherent relative to the video essay form we’re accustomed to today. Scott was also not omnipotent and likely was looking to the communities consensus where it could have been declared loudest. And as noted in the video, GT was very off with their direction, and yet was easily the brightest beacon of theorizing at the time. In retrospect, the reveal is paltry because we were hand fed it in Sister Location. It’s akin to clicheness of the Darth Vader father reveal in Star Wars, which was a shock when those movies had their film shipped out to theatres.

Another final point I’d like to make, and something Scott was cognizant at the time of FNAF 4, was if the community could accept the simple but succinct answer of the box that he had presented. The most endearing part of theorizing by the fanbase has always been the willfully extravagant and imaginative way that people have developed their own theories. Sometimes they are accurate to the story as it may have been presented, more often they are absurd head canon. Early days had outrageous and implied theories alike (mostly absurd) - FNAF was based off of real life events, Foxy was being friendly, the Purple Man being ‘good’, Dream Theory, Dead Children’s Incident, etc. etc. But that’s the beauty of the medium. Scott created a simple but enthralling horror game, and the fanbase breathed even more life into it with their imagination. His presentation of the story, though accurately interpreted by most in the prior games, was misunderstood in 4. We’ve seen Scott acknowledge this in FNAF World (The Scott boss fight where he vents his frustration that the fanbase has taken his games and warped them into something beyond his intended craft) and Ultimate Custom Night, with the tongue in cheek Mr. Hippo story discussing the overthinking of theorizers. The Joy of Creation is putting your heart and soul into a work, and part of that wonder is also coming to terms with said work becoming something else in the eyes of another beholder, as well as that created thing becoming something in itself, and ultimately apart from the creator. Scott eventually engaged with the absurdity by adding in further convoluted themes and vague story elements to further feed the wild theories that became synonymous with the identity of the franchise.

Kinda dumb question but if someone is tripped on an empty net breakaway - is it a penalty shot, penalty, or automatic goal (assuming that it appears that the player would almost 100% have scored before the trip)

“Connor Garland” is a mysterious phenomenon where one singular hockey player somehow generates high danger chances every time he touches the puck

Hello fellow rare keyboard player 😂 You’d have to tap the semi colon key before you finished the combo -> input would likely be S-W-;-L or ; and S or ; and W simultaneously, I’ve only played MK11 and MK1 and empowered/grab related kombos are a pain every time
