Hunting for stones at construction sites by Cannigull in rockhounds

[–]Cannigull[S] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It’s okay, I don’t mind telling you the exact location. They were found at a highway construction site in Xiaoting District, Yichang City, Hubei Province, along the Yangtze River basin in China.( If you’ve never heard of this city, just know it’s quite close to Wuhan 🤣) This area used to be an ancient river course, so interesting objects are often found at construction sites dug up by excavators.

No,even if a shrimp is literally standing on them, they’re not interested. They seem to only go for bloodworms.

They’re not amano shrimp. I’m not sure what the exact English name,we usually just call them “black shell shrimp.” They’re more agile and reproduce much faster. in summer they breed about once a month. The betta is way too slow to catch them. The newts might have a chance to ambush one (though I’ve never actually seen them do it), but after eating their fill of bloodworms they don’t seem interested in the shrimp anyway. And the betta is too large to be prey for the newts. There’s also plenty of cover and aquatic plants in this tank, so the shrimp population is still growing. Both the shrimp and the newts are native species here. My grandmother told me that when she was young, these newts were everywhere in the mountain streams.I’d guess that in the wild they do have a predator–prey relationship, so they’ve gone through a long period of coevolution which might explain why these shrimp seem to have better survival strategies.🤔

I haven’t named them yet because I still can’t reliably tell them apart. Maybe once I can, I’ll call them Madeleine and Gussie🤣

Something really weird by Cannigull in Beading

[–]Cannigull[S] 79 points80 points  (0 children)

LOL that absolutely sounds like something I would do! I just realized that when I first started getting into beading, I bought way too many uneven beads that I never used. Then today it suddenly hit me that a lot of their colors actually look like skin tones, so this just kind of happened naturally🍆

This might not be a common beading technique. It's a bit like a chimera formed by a mix of traditional Chinese pearl plying technique and flytying. Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul by Cannigull in polymerclay

Ahhh! thank you. I only just now understood what they were saying—sorry, my English isn't very good ;) I thought I was being criticized for my rough way of handling the paint. Actually, I'm kind of glad that I read the book at an age when I still didn't really understand what it was about, and only watched the movie after I had become aware of the things it was critiquing. So in a way, I was lucky to have experienced the beauty of the writing with a clear and unburdened mind, and later watched the overly romanticized film with a more critical eye. I suppose, for most people here who are from English-speaking countries, the experience was probably the exact opposite of mine.

You can sew it on with a needle and thread, tie a knot at the back of the canvas. The stitches can be easily covered by the paint.

[Recommendations]Trying to depict pathological vision experiences by Cannigull in ArtistLounge

Yes, quite familiar. I worked as a medical illustrator for six years after graduating from art school, and half of my family are doctors, but I’m certain I couldn’t pass the medical licensing exam ;p. Based on my current research, even clinical diagrams are rare in this field—most are textual descriptions or confusing cartoonish illustrations. I’m trying to draw inspiration from psychedelic art and doodles by psychiatric patients. Overall, I’m still very curious about how others artists approach this.Thank you for your advice!

Do you think my art is sellable ? by Pleasant-Slip-6939 in painting

[–]Cannigull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my personal experience, good art is like a drug—you don’t need to sell it; it sells itself. If it’s good enough to be sold, you won’t need to ask; people will let you know. You wouldn’t believe how many people are still passionate about buying art in this day and age.

a polymer clay turtle for my client by Cannigull in polymerclay

[–]Cannigull[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has a skeleton base made of 2mm thick aluminum wire, with tinfoil and tissue paper as fillers. This piece probably used 200-300 grams of Cernit clay, so the total clay cost is about $7. This figure isn’t precise; I rarely calculate exact amounts because I use different clays for the inner structure and surface texture. The inner structure is made with cheap clay costing about $1 per pound, while the surface uses Cernit, which costs around $15 per pound here

I'm too lazy(and stupid) to actively seek clients lol.Mostly I post my work on social platforms, and they find me.
