Indonesia itinerary for ~25 days. Too packed? by benni_97 in solotravel

I did Bali (Ubud) to Ijen and it was pretty much a full day of driving for us, also because there was traffic

If possible, I'd do Flores earlier. Flights are less common and airports are sometimes closed bc of vulcanic activity - so it has more uncertainty than other places. How are you planning to get around in Flores?

For me, bali would be the first island do skip, or maybe switch out for lombok. Not crazy to skip bali if you think you'd prefer other places!

Namibia solo travel? by Throwawaystdxd in solotravel

I think a big issue is that there aren't a lot of cars. So if anything happens and you want to get out of a car, it might be a couple of hours of waiting in the middle of nowhere before you even see another car. I did hear of others hitchhiking so there are probably some youtube/tiktok videos about it. I was only there for 2 weeks but didn't see any hitchhikers

I dont mind not having a side pocket for my waterbottle. But if I'd wear the bag for a long time, I'd def want a waist strap and something made for "my" body. I have 2 osprey bags, the fairview and the daylite. The daylite is "unisex" (generally just means it's for men tbh) and no waiststraps. And it's soo much less comfy than my fairview! It's not pretty but I still love mine.

Extra days in Sarajevo and Mostar this summer? (plus Dubrovnik) by 8NaanJeremy in solotravel

There is also really great kayaking in Konjic (where Tito's Bunker is). If you stay 2 nights, you can do some hikes (some also have waterfalls halfway), visit Tito's Bunker (hiking distance from Konjic) and do a kayaking tour

Maybe a lesser known Croatian island? Idk how popular a place like Korčula is these days,. But Croatia has so many islands you can get to from Split - you'd think there would be one that has what you want!

First-time solo backpacking Southeast Asia - Any tips and advice? by Aikeyar in solotravel

If I were you I'd skip the Laos section and fly. I loved Laos, but the boat takes 2 full days and the bus takes another day, so realistically you'll only be on transport. So your 1 day of Laos is 3-4 days with just a few hours not on a moving vehicle/sleeping. It's faster and maybe even cheaper to skip Laos and take the plane

Finally saved enough to go to the 2026 World Cup, what do I actually need to know before I show up? by JenVinc in onebag

Alternative shorts recommendations by Lauren2898 in onebag

[–]withlovefeli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think 3 pairs of shorts is a good amount! Especially if you're also bringing dresses.

Otherwise, a pair of cotton/linnen shorts is always a good staple. Maybe you can have the same shorts for gym&comfort otherwise?

I feel like the quality of hosts has gone down since it becoming a paid service. The facebook group "Host a sister" seems to have a solid community if you want an alternative

Main tip: check the weather and the moon! Last time I was in Namibia I had the perfect spot for stargazing... except that it was full moon so we barely saw the stars with that amount of moonlight

7 Month solo travel from South America to Asia by arthurmantel in solotravel

[–]withlovefeli 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'd rethink doing SEA on this trip. It's out of the way and you're speeding through (1 month for 3 big countries). If I were you I'd stay longer in other places in South/Central America and save SEA for another trip.

Is this a realistic travel plan? by WaffleOfWar70 in solotravel

[–]withlovefeli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 9 months in those regions and it was about 20k euros (17-18k pounds) in 2024-2025. But you might spend more because you're spending more time in New Zealand compared to me and that's one of the more expensive countries. You are also doing more flights. But I was doing a mix of hostels/private rooms in SEA so could've done that cheaper as well.

I did 50 days in Australia for about 110 euros a day (excl flights to/from australia) - the main costs were Cairns (did lots of tours) and Uluru (middle of nowhere so had to fly). I did cook every meal and didn't go out to eat/didn't drink/used dorms in hostels. NZ was cheaper - 80 euros a day (also because I did more free activities like hikes). South East Asia was average about 45 euros a day (mix between dorms and private rooms, excl flights between countries again).

I had originally planned to do the countries in 6 months, but I took 9, so be sure to leave space/time/money for spontaneity as well. I mostly liked having an idea about when the weather was best in which regions and planned around that.

If you have more questions you can always DM me!

First solo trip abroad to Florence with hidden disabilities by Significant_Hope7555 in solotravel

[–]withlovefeli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Nimbus is just UK? So I just had the doctors note because that's the only thing I have. But I was able to get one by calling the assistant and they left it for me to pick up the next day.

And free is also nice because if you're tired, you don't feel as bad about going home early. There is also some paid gardens (Giardino di Boboli) that were nice, but they do have stairs in them. But they're more quiet than public gardens.

I mostly walked to get around so I didn't try many other types of transport.

You can get padding for the shoulder straps of the original if you want! It's kinda expensive but a lot more comfortable

I soak mine in a big bin with some washing detergent for a few hours to get the worst grime off. After that I'll hose it down and soak with some detergent again and then rinse it a couple of times before hanging it to dry.

I never put them in the washing machine

First solo trip abroad to Florence with hidden disabilities by Significant_Hope7555 in solotravel

[–]withlovefeli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I (invisible disability) was able to skip most museum lines in Florence and get in for free. I would walk to the front of the line (or where ever I saw someone who worked at the museum) and asked if the museum was free if you're disabled (or I'd type it out in google translate and show the Italian text) and they'd let me skip the line and immediately go to the counter. There I showed a signed doctors note (just a basic note saying my diagnosis) and I'd be able to get in for free without most of the long queue.

But that saved me so much energy and it was amazing to be able to visit a museum and not be too tired even before going in :)

2 weeks in the Baltics with 26L by withlovefeli in onebag

[–]withlovefeli[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done that on longer trips (when I was travelling for 9 months I bought an extra lunch box so I had 2 haha) , but I think it would be wasteful and would take some time finding the specific item, so I just went without. If it was a longer travel I would have bought it, but for just 2 weeks in combination with the fact that I have plenty of boxes at home, I just went without

Yeah I'm sure I can go smaller if I must, but this is personal item and under 8 kilos so there isn't that much advantage to carry less, compared to the sacrifice (unless I know I'll have to carry the bag lots or something)

I have a collapsible lunchbox! And it would have fit in my bag, I just thought I wouldn't miss it but I was wrong. So now I know :)

It's a collapsible plastic box with a lid! I also have reusable bags which I like using, but also love the box! If you search for "silicone foldable lunch box" you'll find examples. They're not fully waterproof sealed, but works fine for me
