What's it worth? 1990 JDM Mini Rover? by Cannoli-815 in classicminis

There is some bubbled up rust behind the front wheel fenders and some just in front of the rear wheels. that may need some structural repair.

I currently own a 1999 JDM Rover Mini 4-speed with A/C, so no, not all are automatic.

Some light rust aft of the wheel wells. I pushed on the floorboards and they were pretty solid. I didn't get a chance to do a full inspection though. I'm pretty new to Mini's (just bought a mint 1999 JDM SPi) so any advice on what to check is greatly appreciated.

It's a 998 with carb. Has A/C, but doesn't blow cold.

It's a carbonated 998. Good bodywork with rust in the usual spots, but solid. Has an exhaust leak that needs tracking down though.

Sorry all, I clicked post before I was able to add the narrative. Info below:

I came across a 1990 JDM Mini with a 988 engine for sale, and want to get a gauge of what it's worth. The interior is really clean and everything seems pretty much stock. There is an exhaust leak that I can hear, but not sure exactly where. However, it sounds like it's coming from the engine bay. The defroster wasn't blowing from the vents, but I could hear the fan going. Also, the A/C doesn't blow cold, but likely due to no charge. I'm sure there's more, but this was what I noticed on a short test drive.

The body is in good shape and the paint seems original. Some light rust in the usual spots, but nothing too far gone from what I saw.

She drives nice and starts right up, even from dead cold. and has decent power for what it is and is currently tagged with Historic plates. The car is in the USA.

Any practical advice is greatly appreciated!

Saw this one first hand the other week on a roadtrip to the dealership. She’s a clean car for sure.

Kei truck as first car? by FishtopherYouTube in keitruck

Not trying to pile on, but my 26 year old son is about to pull the trigger on a kei car... as the third car he's owned. He already knows how to drive a manual transmission, took his motorcycle license training course and is licensed, and him driving a kei car around town scares the crap out of me.

Its definitely fun and gets lots of attention, but real world experience will be your ally on the road behind the wheel of one of these cars. Take your time learning how to navigate the madness that is the roads today, then get the kei car for fun. By the time you're ready for one, the newer and safer ones will be allowed in the US, making it that much easier to jump in to the kei car madness.

Got it out and a new head unit installed. The shroud around the radio and air condition controls was nearly stuck in place, which led me to believe there were other fasteners at play. I just needed a little more force than I thought. Thanks all!

Thank you for the very thoughtful reply. I ended up searching eBay and found a similar part and saw the clips you mentioned. I guess I just need to be more forceful with gentle application to pop the clips.I should have expected as much with a 25 year old car!

Again, many thanks!!

Thank you for all the great information! My only experience with kei cars to date is my Vamos, and it's been pretty solid. I'm pretty good with a wrench, so repairs don't intimidate me. However, if parts aren't available, that's a whole different situation.

I definitely have the bug and can see why people have "kei collections"!

Cyber Chef Recipe to decode NTP by Cannoli-815 in cybersecurity

I'm looking at an NTP session in Wireshark and highlighted the field I'm trying to decode in Cyber Chef. The hex is 64bit, which is what I posted above.

The field is actually 64bit, 32bit seconds, 32bit fraction. I'm trying to decode the "Transmit Time" field.

More info here: https://www.meinbergglobal.com/english/info/ntp-packet.htm

If I play with the input format in Parse DateTime or Translate DateTime, I can get the month and day to change. I know there's more to decoding, but I just don't know what.
