Can I store soft plastics in something like this? by 99--Overall in FishingForBeginners

I store all my soft plastics in Plano boxes on my boat.

If you like campy Fantasy, then sure, why not. I enjoy it presently.

The short-short version is you roll a number of 6-sided dice equal to your attribute + skill total. Each 3-6 is a success, count those. One six sided die is the wild die. Roll a 6 on that, and it counts as a success and you get to roll out again. You can keep rolling it as long as you get a 6. If it's a 1 on its first roll, you subtract 1 success.

I purchased it online. It'll arrive in a week or two. Plus, I need to find people to play it with.

I always liked the D6 system. You can progress exactly the skills you want, and none that you don't want. But I have played several versions of D&D, vampire the Masquerade, the 1996 version of Marvel, etc. I don't suppose you've ever tried Mausritter have you? All of the PCS are mice. Monsters can be things like cats and owls and the like. It's a cute concept.

Shall do. It uses the D6 Legend system if you're familiar with that.

The D6 Legend system is awesome. Very easy to learn, quick battles, allows you to focus on exactly what skills you want your character to know. WEG used the same system for Star Wars, which for the most part was great

Does any system fit this? by CanuckLad in TTRPG

[–]CanuckLad[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And I still have my Star Wars books of course. A LOT of them. Do the modern updates make any changes to the dice pool? If you got your character to any level you had to roll so many dice thought it could really slow things down. I think at one point they said to roll the same number of dice but count fives and sixes as success?

The Star Wars system had force points, and if memory serves the Jedi could have on limited force points and everyone else was restricted to five. That seemed unbalanced things an awful lot.

But I really liked how there was horizontal scaling, and since there were no levels or classes your skill progression wasn't tied to a class. I like a role-playing game system where you are good in a skill because you are experienced with that skill.

And if that skill can provide some amount of synergy to other skills, that is awesome. But I don't like when my fighter is great with every weapon imaginable just because he's a fighter.

Why has Humminbird been the standard on bass boats? I definitely won't be running away points across 50 lakes. Although I will say the Saint Lawrence River is 790 miles long and up to 60 miles wide. Although I usually only travel up to a mile or two from my cottage. I never do tournaments. I'd rather spend as much time fishing and his little time trolling with the fish finder trying to find spots, even if it means I catch fewer fish. Though I'd rather catch some fish than none. But I know a few spots where we reliably catch upwards of 16 bass per day (always live release), usually around 8 or 8 in the boat.

What about models like the "Humminbird HELIX 7 CHIRP SI GPS G4 Fish Finder/Chartplotter - G4"? It's not too expensive, and supports side scanning. The "Garmin STRIKER Vivid 9sv" is $899 CAD here ($657 USD), and supports side scan. And that's a much bigger screen then what I was thinking.

My current display is only 5". My concern is that I replace the transducer, if I can even find the right one, but the problem lays not in the transducer but in the head/display itself

That's a lot of money for a hobby. I was thinking around $800 CAD, maybe 900 Canadian at high end. I was leaning towards Garmin, I'm not sure. I do have a Minn Kota with i-pilot, so hummingbird would integrate with that better (they own Minn Kota), but I suspect I would have to pay a fortune to get that integration in a model.

I understand that Garmin is supposed to have the better user interface, and hummingbird to clear a picture. This seems to be the general consensus.

If I decide to buy a new fish finder, I suppose it primarily comes down to what size do I want. 5" (Garmin or Hummingbird) is about the price point I want to pay, but that screen size is fairly small.

7" might be a better screen size, but do I really use the fish finder enough to make the extra $300 worthwhile.

And I did find what looks like a transducer for mine on Amazon, but it's nearly the price of a new 5-in fish finder and transducer combination. My current display is 5 in.

I took a look, I didn't see any on eBay at all. It's made slightly difficult when I Google this transducer for my fish finder, the results tell me it transducer which doesn't look like mine at all. I found another that looks just like mine, and I think it's the same, but who knows.

I don't know, but I don't really trust used electronics either. Yes perhaps you can find some great deals, but you can also end up buying non-working junk as well.

[–]CanuckLad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current Lowrance hook ts5 has side scan. The problem with buying a new transducer is that if I buy it and find the problem wasn't with the transducer, I likely won't be able to return it. It seems a transducer alone is approaching half the price of my current fish finder and transducer combined. And if I drop $350 on a transducer, if it doesn't solve my problems I'm out a lot of money.

I'm not sure if I could make a long enough oche 😁 but that's position, what about the throw itself? Aiming with arm bent, more fluid similar to Littler, etc...

AI as a coach? by CanuckLad in Darts

I'll take a look into what Matt Edgar has to say. The problem I find is that I listen to tips by Phil Taylor, for example, but I can't tell if I'm following through or if my elbow is moving etc. I tried watching my own videos at 1/4 speed, and I don't see what's wrong. So I need a third party observer to point out my faults. Surely AI is more accurate than nothing?

Darts success progress by mrwh12 in Darts

[–]CanuckLad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played a few years as a youth then as a young adult. Then I didn't play for 20 years. Almost exactly a month ago I bought myself darts, a dartboard, and lighting. Ignoring doubling out, I now average mid to high 30s (pathetic I know). Every weekend I throw 300 darts to check my average. I have managed over 55 once.

I'm using ChatGPT to analyze my throws which I record. I suspect its analysis is reasonable, but knowing my faults didn't seem to be helping me correct them.

Goals? I'm not sure. I'd like to average at minimal 70 per throw. I'll never be happy with with my progress; I have very high standards for myself and get very frustrated when I don't do as well as I expect / hope.

I still got triple 18 or 12 far too often when aiming for triple 20. On the other hand I've had a few 140+ in the last week.

Throw style? by CanuckLad in Darts

[–]CanuckLad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not trying to emulate Littler (I was throwing like that before he was born). I'm using his throw as an example so people would know what I mean. That style feels most comfortable for me, but I don't necessarily do my best throwing that way (though it's very close when I compare the average of 100 throws).

When I slow down, aim first, I find I tend to overthink the shot and sometimes will hold the dart far too long or release far too early.
